1 May Officer and Committee News WACGC PRESIDENT Terry Sisto, Ford s Colony Garden Club tes125@cox.net, The month of May has arrived! Yesterday I was at a garden center with half of Williamsburg, you would have thought they were giving everything away. Like me, so many are anxious to fill their flower pots and refresh their gardens for spring and summer enjoyment! May is also meeting month - the WACGC Spring General Meeting is on Thursday, May 24 th. Brandon Woods Garden Club is hosting this meeting at the Sentara Williamsburg Hospital. Gary Streb, Master Gardener and Hospice House Garden Coordinator will be our speaker. Ways & Means will again have wonderful raffle items bring some cash! Get all the meeting details in this newsletter. I first need to say what a fun filled day the Tidewater District Fashion & Flowers fundraiser was. From the fashions (Gloria s knowledge of fashions & models) to the tree and shrub information (Prune in June), the wonderful lunch, the Dueling Designers (competition, tips & humor) and much more everyone in attendance couldn t help but enjoy the event. Congratulations to Glenda Knowles and the Tidewater District! Congratulation to Williamsburg Garden Club for another wonderful Garden Week Tour. It was like two tours in one, 18 th Century and 21 st Century. Gardens of dogwoods, azaleas, viburnum and flowers with homeowners and members creativity on the inside of each home, Inspiration at every turn! Smooth touring even in the rain. I hope you attended the Toano Garden Club s Bake Sale this past Saturday, Yum! Thanks to all who supported their fundraiser. For more inspiration don t forget Tablescapes & Treasures, hosted by Ford s Colony Garden Club on Saturday, May 12 th. You ll get to enjoy fifty theme tablescapes, full of party and entertaining ideas, with fifty treasures you ll have the opportunity to win. All that while supporting Nature Camp scholarships. Details and directions are in this newsletter. I m looking forward to seeing you on the 24 th. We are so very fortunate to have this organization in our community. If you ve not attended a Council meeting before grab a fellow garden club friend and attend this month to learn what your WACGC is all about. Don t just let your club s representative be informed. Happy Gardening! May General Meeting Thursday, May 24 Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Robert Graves Room 9:30am coffee; 10:00am meeting & program Host: Brandon Woods Garden Club Guest Speaker: Gary Streb, Master Gardener & Lead Gardener at Hospice House Page 1 of 10

2 WACGC VICE PRESIDENT Rose Marie Crocco, Colonial Heritage Garden Club The May 24 general meeting of the WACGC will be hosted by Brandon Woods at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Robert Graves Room. The Council has donated money and time over the years to both the Pansy Project and the monthly floral arrangements for the lobby of the Hospice House. We are proud to announce that Gary Streb will be our featured speaker. He is not only a Master Gardener but also the lead gardener for the Hospice House grounds. He oversees and maintains 11 acres working several days a week. He will share his experiences and the challenges of the Hospice House project. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn what he has learned over the years in the garden. A reminder to Club Presidents: Please send me your Garden Club Membership Rosters, including Officers, Council Representatives, and Arbor Day Representatives by July 1. This information is needed to update the WACGC Handbook. WACGC BLUE STAR MEMORAL MARKER Glenda Knowles, Berkeley and Colonial Heritage Garden Clubs ggknowles@cox.net, The Blue Star Memorial Marker, placed by the WACGC on November 11, 2016, is looking radiant and the plants survived this extreme winter! I took a ride by and the blue Ajuga are blooming as well as the Nandina are alive and growing. I plan to spruce up the area and rake some pine straw into the beds on a warm sunny day soon.
