4 Gardening in August As temperatures rise the growth of your lawn may actually start to slow down. Mow as and when necessary never taking more than one third of the length off per cut. As always a sharp mower is essential. If temperatures become very hot your lawn will become stressed and it may be necessary to cut back on the frequency of mowing. Use Westland Aftercut each time you mow to help restore the lost nutrients from your grass. Come in store this month and get a Westland Aftercut Spreader with a Westland Aftercut refill box for only 15! (See in store for more information). Hydrangeas From The best thing you can do for your lawn this month is keep it well watered. The easiest way to do this is with a good quality sprinkler. This will give your garden an even coverage of moisture and maintain a healthy colour. Coming up to the end of August, use Westland Autumn Lawn Feed & Moss Killer to help your lawn grow strong roots over autumn and winter. This will help your lawn stay healthy while also reducing the amount of moss and weeds that may develop in your lawn. While stocks last Only 10 As well as helping your lawn look stunning this summer, its a great time for planting. Rudbeckia Toto, Hydrangeas, Gazanias and Lobelias are all looking fantastic this month and will certainly bring more colour into your garden. Hardy Fuchsias are looking particularly stunning this month. Try planting them in window boxes and hanging baskets. Planning ahead, spring flowering bulbs arrive this month and should be planted in the next few weeks. Daffodils look particularly good planted in drifts straight in your lawn. Just grab a handful, chuck them in the air and plant them where they land. Dig a hole about three times the length of the bulb and then cover over. Its better to plant them too deep than too shallow if you are unsure. Be aware that the grass will have to be left for at least six weeks after the bulbs have flowered to allow the bulb to build up its flower bulb for the following year. Rudbeckia Toto From 1.29 Hozelock Sprinkler Plus From Website: call: Waterside Garden Centre, King Street, Baston, Peterborough, PE6 9NY
