2 A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN Welcome, Horticultural Society* has the very proud distinction of having been in existence for 95 years, quite an achievement I think you will agree. In 1919 the Vicar invited Cottagers from Hook and to come together and participate in a Village Show. Apart from a few short breaks the Flower Show continues to this very day. It s an event that we feel and hope brings together young and old from the community. So, whether you have a window box or an allotment, whether you garden in a modern way or prefer the more traditional approach, I look forward to seeing all your wonderful exhibits and please don t be shy, come and join us. The Horticultural Society meets on the last Wednesday of each month at the Victory Hall. If you would like more information about our speakers, outings and social events, any of the committee would be more than willing to give you any information you require. 4 RULES AND GUIDE FOR COMPETITORS 1. All plants and flowers must be the bona fide property of the Exhibitor for at least two months before the Show. Vegetables and fruit must have been grown entirely by the Exhibitor. 2. Exhibitors may not make more than one entry in any single class. 3. Confectionery may be cut and/or tasted at the Judge s discretion. 4. Entry fee for adults and children 25p per class, excluding Hook with C of E Academy. 5. Entry forms and fees must be submitted to any member of the Committee NOT LATER THAN 12 noon Thursday 3rd September. 6. Exhibits will be received at the hall from 9.30 am. and must be displayed by am. when the hall will be closed for judging. 7. No exhibit may be removed until 4.30 pm. Any exhibit not collected by 5 pm will be disposed of. 8. The Committee accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage to any exhibit. 9. The Judge s decision will be final subject to the rules of the Society having been complied with. 10. Protests should be made in writing to the Society s Chairman on the day of the Show. These will be put before the Committee.

6 SECTION D - BAKING CHILDREN S CLASSES D1-3 decorated cup cakes (children 6 years and under) D2-3 decorated cup cakes (children 7yrs 11 years) SECTION E - BAKING CLASSES (open to all ages use your favourite recipe) E1-1 Victoria Sponge E2-1 Fruit Cake E3-1 Tray-bake (4 squares) E4-6 biscuits E5 - SHOWSTOPPER CAKE (use your imagination anything goes) (Paper plates and cling film will be supplied for baking classes) SECTION F - PHOTOGRAPHY F1- One colour print - any horticultural subject - mounted on A5 card F2 - One black and white print titled My favourite photograph - mounted on A5 card SECTION G - HOOK-WITH-WARSASH C of E ACADEMY Only entries direct from the School will be accepted. The class teachers will judge all entries for these classes and a selection of twelve from each year group will be brought to the Show for final judging. Any entries not collected at the end of the Show will be returned to the School. A 5 book token will be awarded to the winner of each year group. There will be prize cards for 2nd and 3rd places.
