LiveWildlife Chem Chem Lodge is located on a 4000-hectare wildlife concession. A concession is a protected area managed by the local communities and listed as a Wildlife Management Area. Chem Chem Lodge received the user right for this concession in 2007 for 60 years. At the same time, LiveWildlife was founded. LiveWildlife is a non-profit organization founded with the mission of assisting the surrounding communities in protecting their wildlife and supporting their educational system. We support the state school infrastructure, offer courses for teachers, and help children learn more about their local ecosystem through environmental education. We also support the rangers employed by Chem Chem Lodge, who protect the wildlife of the concession. Years ago elephants used to migrate from Tarangire National Park to Manyara National Park via our concession. Our common goal is to restore this migration path in order to establish a healthy and well-balanced ecosystem. We believe that supporting education and protecting wildlife can create a perfect symbiosis, where Tanzanians determine their own land use, and at the same time local ecosystem and its unique biodiversity stays in balance. Fabia Bausch & Nicolas Negre Founder of Chem Chem Safari Lodges & LiveWildLife Foundation

LiveWildlife EDUCATION There are many different areas through which donors can support our educational program Four Steps to a Better Education: Classroom and Classroom Equipment For school lessons to take place, proper facilities for all primary school classes must be available. This means that each primary school must have 7 classrooms, one for each year, as well as one teachers office. Each classroom should include equipment like a chalkboard, bookcase, chairs and desks for the children and the teachers. Furthermore, the children need study material like writing blocks, books and pens. Below are the costs involved in completing Step 1. One classroom & teachers office: construction and equipment which includes USD 9,000 School material for one year for 30 children in one class includes USD 450

Provision of water, food and electricity Providing an outdoor water tank for collecting rainwater is important, as the water can be used for drinking (filtered), watering plants and cleaning the facilities. Additionally, children who cannot go home for lunch need to eat at school. Therefore it is necessary to build a kitchen and a lunchroom. As the schools do not have access to electricity, installing solar panels would improve the daily school life: illuminated classrooms, an oven could be installed in the school kitchen, there would be an opportunity to use media in the classrooms and an alarm system could be provided. Rainwater tank for one classroom (5,000 litres) USD 800 Construction of a school kitchen & lunchroom for 300 children includes USD 15,000 simple stove oven washing facility dishes and pots tables and benches Running of the school kitchen 5 days a week for 300 children includes USD 80,000 food (maize, sugar, beans, peas, vegetables oil) salary of kitchen staff Solar electricity solar panel system for one classroom USD 2,000

Culture & Values In our third step we would like to make school life more vital by offering activities such as sports planting vegetables. Furthermore, a facility manager could be employed to look after the buildings and keep them in good shape. Outdoor soccer and sports field USD 150 Facility manager USD 3,000 p.a. School garden Planting of vegetables, herbs and fruits, which could be used for the meals at school USD 100 equipment for the garden (seeds) Being independent from rain water By drilling a well, the school and the boarding house would be independent from rain and have consistent water access. Water supply independent from rain water Pumping water from the ground water level USD 9,500 drilling a well construction of or getting connection to another water resource

LiveWildlife CONSERVATION There are many different ways in which donors can support our conservation projects. The wildlife conservation work of LiveWildlife can be separated into two areas present projects and yearly expenditures which are described in detail below. Present Projects Management of the concession, which includes the Anti-Poaching Unit, needs a lot of financial support. The equipment for the rangers and the improvement of infrastructure are a few of the areas where monetary investment is needed. The list below shows the current needs of our wildlife conservation projects. Equipment One bike USD 150 In order to more easily patrol a large area One motorcycle USD 950 to cover far distances quickly and flexibly Pickup USD 21,000 to patrol the border of the concession with a multiple rangers One ranger package two uniforms USD 850 rainwear & blanket

field glasses, walkie-talkie, flashlights Infrastructure Patrol path special machine to build the path boundary stones (to cover a distance of 18 km) signs to provide information about protected area (WMA) running and labour costs USD 8,500 Yearly Expenditures At the moment, the labour costs for the entire Anti-Poaching Unit is paid by Chem Chem Lodge. We plan to support the Lodge with these expenses, because of the increasing number of rangers that are necessary to effectively manage the concession. Personnel & other running costs Salary for one ranger Running costs for petrol repairs of the fleet of vehicles maintenance of equipment Education Training and further education for the rangers USD 2,400 p.a. USD 8,500 p.a. USD 5,500 p.a. improve English language skills broaden the knowledge of wildlife
