4 Situation Horton's House is situated in a quiet location in the historic centre of the market town of Bradford on Avon. The town is a short level walk away and boasts a wide range of amenities and shopping facilities. Bradford on Avon station is a short walk with high speed links to London Paddington and Waterloo. Horton's House Horton's House is steeped in history being among the few surviving early Tudor buildings in Bradford on Avon. It is surrounded by other historic buildings including the town's famous Saxon church. The main part of the house was built in 1496, however its history dates back several centuries earlier. With its unique central location it has played an important role in the history of the town, predominantly favoured by local clothiers as home and work place. The house is full of charm and retains many original period features including fireplaces and exposed beams. Being south facing, it is full of light throughout the day. The spacious entrance hall with flagstone floor leads through to what is currently used as the dining room. This room incorporates the 14th Century Manorial Court House. It features a magnificent log burning fireplace, the original Manorial bread oven.

5 Horton's House Continued The spacious kitchen/living room which overlooks the garden and serves as the hub of the house, is accessed from the hall, and features a gas AGA and ample space for table and chairs. Like most rooms in this linear house, there are windows on both sides, letting light flood in. The Crabtree solid maple units were tailor made for the kitchen. The study is accessed from the kitchen and leads to the bespoke Vale conservatory which opens on to a large terrace area and the wisteria clad pergola. The back kitchen lies off the entrance hall and in turn leads to a w.c. and wood store. The spacious accommodation on the first floor includes the large windowed main bedroom with original 15th century wood beams, and a contemporary en suite bathroom. There is also a second en suite bedroom on this floor and a sitting room with original beams. The remaining bedrooms are on the second floor together with a large shower room. The Gardens Over the past 15 years, the owners have created from waste land a spectacular garden at Horton's House. It is often open to the public. This extensive, secluded garden provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy the surrounding views. The formal south facing garden, with clipped box parterre can be accessed from the kitchen or the conservatory. To the left is a Hartley Botanic green house, and in front is a generous level lawn with mature trees bordered by hedging. Of historical note, are the remains of the Manorial Dovecote. To the rear of the house is a large vegetable garden with raised beds and a substantial tool shed.

Proceed nearly 200 yards up Church Street. As the road starts bending to the left, cross the road and follow the sign "private car park, residents only", passing Abbey House on the left.
