Dublin comes alive-alive-oh this summer Dublin has a packed programme of events this summer many organised or supported by Dublin City Council. These events bring people into the city centre and also attract tourists so they are great for businesses. Here are some highlights: St. Anne s Rose Festival 20th and 21st July The Rose Festival in beautiful St. Anne s Park is the place to be on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July. Organised by Dublin City Council s Parks and Landscapes Services, the festival is a real summer treat. It runs from 10am to 5pm each day and offers great family entertainment. As well as the park s famous rose nursery, families can enjoy Woolly Wards Farm, a carousel, climbing tower, art workshops, garden talks on things like bee keeping, composting and loads more that will improve your green fingers no end. For more see Riverdance The Gathering (15-21 July) set a world record with Jean Butler This is your chance to be a part of Riverdance. Over the week there will be professional master classes for young dancers by the original Riverdance cast. Merrion Square will host a family fun day on Saturday 20th July with a Riverdance Gathering Ceilí kicking off at 3pm. On Sunday 21st July, Jean Butler, original star of Riverdance invites you to come join her and other Riverdance cast members along the banks of the River Liffey in an attempt to set a new World Record for Riverdance line dancing. For further details see: Other events to look forward to include: Summer in Dublin: Presented by Dublintown.ie, family fun and games animate a different city centre street every Saturday until 10th August. See for more. Dublin City Liffey Swim, Saturday 24th August. See For updates: /RecreationandCulture/events/pages/eventsindublin.aspx
Summer garden recycling Getting rid of your garden waste is a big problem for many people during the summer months. Putting it in the bin is costly and it would soon fill up. You can bring your green garden waste grass and hedge clippings to the following Recycling Centres: Windmill Road, Crumlin, Dublin 12 (off Kildare Road, opposite Iveagh Gardens) Rathmines Waste Management Depot, Gullistan Terrace, Dublin 6 Ringsend Recycling Centre, Pigeon House Road, Ringsend, Dublin 4 Collins Avenue Depot, opposite DCU entrance, Dublin 9 Oscar Traynor Road, Coolock, Dublin 5 (Beside Garda Station) Shamrock Terrace Recycling Centre, North Strand, Dublin 1 The charges for Green Waste: 2 per bag (80 litres max) 16 per skip bag (1m³; skip bags are available from most hardware stores). For more: /WaterWasteEnvironment/Waste/pages/wasterecycling.aspx
Help us conserve water this summer We hope you are all enjoying the great weather! But no matter what the weather will be like we still need your help in our on-going efforts to save water. During the summer we use more water. That s because we water our gardens, wash our cars, and clean our windows and drives more often than at other times during the year. We re not asking you to stop doing any of these. Just try to do them in ways that don t waste water. Here are some tips: Use a bucket of water to clean your car and windows instead of a hose. It will be just as clean Even if we get a long hot, dry spell of weather don t hose your lawn it will recover quickly Use a watering can instead of a hose to water your flowers and shrubs Established trees and shrubs don t need to be watered Summer or winter don t leave your tap running when brushing your teeth If we all save a little water it can add up to a lot. You ll find these and other tips on
Join Dublin s growing army of cyclists Summer is great time to enjoy the outdoors and Dublin is gaining a reputation as one of Europe s cycling hotspots! Cycling is getting more popular all the time. Cycling now makes up almost 8% of traffic and the recent Copenhagenize Index ranked Dublin 9th for cycling in European capitals. We want families to be part of this. Dublin s growing network of off-road Cycling Greenways is a great way to enjoy a family cycle or walk. You ll find them on the Grand Canal and a brand new 4km track in Tolka Valley Park. Planning permission was granted this May for a 2km section of the 22km Sutton to Sandycove coastal route. Dublin City Council is also working on the development of future Greenways along the Grand Canal, Royal Canal, Tolka Valley and the River Dodder. To view a map of existing and proposed Greenways see: Documents/proposedgreenwaycycleways.pdf
Luas Cross City Work has started on the Luas Cross City project. This will join the two Luas tracks together and also extend through the city centre to join with the rail network. Dublin city will remain open throughout the works. You can keep up-to-date on this project on: also on Facebook
Grafton Street is being repaved Grafton Street is getting its much needed repaving. The street will be repaved in sections starting near St. Stephen s Green. It will take about 18 months and shoppers will be delighted to know there will be no repaving works over Christmas. Dublin City Council is doing this with the support of local businesses and is very grateful for their cooperation. Updates Facebook
