Age: Teenager welcome Back to Nature; Wilderness/ Jungle survival (Code: RC-GWC-NAT/16) Background: With increase in urbanisation human population is gradually making a shift from sleepy towns to bigger cities in search of better future opportunities, income and materialistic life style. Urban lifestyle is very convenient and has many benefits but also few disadvantages. Our younger generation is worst hit as they have no connection with nature. They are dependent on technology and lack survival skills as result they are becoming less adaptive to changing environment and cannot differentiate between needs and wants. After carefully understanding the problem and consulting our international partners we have developed this project to create awareness and respect among youth towards nature and environment. During this project volunteers will live in lap of nature with just basic living facilities (Accommodation and toilets(bath + WC)). During day time volunteers will assist in developing land, help in collecting wood for fuel and cooking, clearing unwanted bushes and keeping camping area clean, developing kitchen garden and organic manure. Our future vision is to construct one and two room wooden huts which will be open to public. Visiting people will be encouraged to contribute, grow and harvest from their own garden. We aim to provide an experience of living in wilderness with bare necessity and connecting with nature. Accommodation: This will be basic, simple and shared with common toilets. We shall provide mattresses & bed linen but the volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bags and personal toiletries. Food: Food offered will be simple authentic Indian vegetarian and freshly cooked. Group will be divided into teams to take care of cooking, cleaning and collecting food. All activities will be facilitated by our experienced and adventure loving staff. (Photo only for illustrating future vision. Not actual location.)
Age: 18+ Sustainable living: Conserving rain water (Code: RC-GWC-RWH/16) Background: RUCHI believes in sustainable lifestyle and defines sustainability as reducing individuals or groups use of natural as well personal resources. Sustainability can be achieved by reducing wastage, recycling and re-using at individual or community level. In other words being resourceful and only fulfilling needs not wants. In our attempt to promote sustainable life style at individual/community level we have for long promoted rain water harvesting. Rain water is abundantly and freely available source of water. Under this project we shall demonstrate by using traditional techniques to harvest roof as well surface water at our residential as well office complex. This harvested water will be channelled to a collection tank for storage and future usage. Volunteers will be involved by assisting in setting up system and make it running with technical expertise provided by our technician. This stored water will later be used for irrigation purpose to grow vegetables during summer or off season using drip irrigation method. We are in process of establishing a organic farm which will be used for demonstration purposes. This is great opportunity to skill up for volunteer. staying in RUCHI complex accommodation with basic amenities separate for male and females. We shall provide mattresses & bed linen but the volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bags and personal toiletries. Food: Food offered will be simple authentic Indian vegetarian and freshly cooked. Three meals a day will be served. Assistance while cooking is desired of volunteers. Volunteers are free to cook meals of their country choice on every Sunday.
Organic Farm protection (Code: RC- GWC- AGR/16) Age: 18+ Background: According to recently concluded census, close to 70 % of India s population is agriculture dependent. As a result we are world s highest and second highest producers of fruits and vegetables. With introduction of new technical inputs agriculture production is more likely to head north. Unfortunately in pursuit of higher income few farmers are resorting to in-organic agriculture produce which is neither healthy nor sustainable. With technical assistance from state horticulture department we have established a community farm in 5 hectare, where RUCHI will promote Good Agriculture Practices and also practice organic farming. This farm will be used for demonstration and educational purpose in future. Working towards our future vision, we identified need for protection of our demonstration farm. Living close to nature and forest, our farm land is frequented by wild animals who cause damage to crop, therefore success of this project highly depends on protection of designated area by installing and repairing security fence around it. Volunteers will assist in installation work of this fence. Organic farming techniques/practices will also be shared with volunteers to help them start kitchen gardens in their back yard. staying in RUCHI complex accommodation with basic amenities separate for male and females.
Natural Resource protection (Code: RC- GWC- NRM/16) Age: 18+ Background: Himachal Pradesh is rich in natural resources. Fresh water springs are perennial source of drinking water for community and local wild life. There importance cannot be under estimated as they provide sustainability and bio diversity to the area. Due to rapid urbanisation paired with increasing human pressure and negligence our fresh water resources are facing threat. With decreasing ground water table they are drying. Situation is alarming and requires immediate action. With this project we aim to protect and recharge our fresh water springs. There are many fresh water springs in this area and each volunteer group will help to restore and recharge one spring at a time. Fresh water spring proposed for this project serves more than 100 families. Under this project construction, improving access, repair maintenance work will be undertaken. It is great opportunity for volunteers wishing to have a career in natural resource management. Recharging a spring is a slow process which requires at least a year to measure impact. staying in RUCHI complex accommodation with basic amenities separate for male and females. We shall provide mattresses & bed linen but the volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bags and personal toiletries.. Food: Food offered will be simple authentic Indian vegetarian and freshly cooked. Three meals a day will be served. Assistance while cooking is desired of volunteers. Volunteers are free to cook meals of their country choice on every Sunday.
Youth Learning & Training (Code: RC-GWC-NFE/16) Age: 18+ Location: New Delhi Background: New Delhi, India's vibrant and bustling capital. New Delhi is a young metropolis, a fascinating mix of historical monuments and modern high-tech industry, colourful nightlife and fabulous shopping and dining options, New Delhi is a feast for the senses. With growing urbanisation and increased labor migration there is increase in street kids. These kids are normally unattended and are prone to begging, drug abuse and other mischievous activities. In partnership with local partner, to keep these street kids involved we have a youth learning and training centre, where we are also organising primary education and skill building exercises for youth and school drop outs. Few of these exercises are: 1. Art and drawing training. 2. Pottery making training. 3. Sewing training for girls. Under this project volunteers will be involved in non formal education promoting cross cultural exchanges and also assist our existing staff in their routine activities. In near future we would also like to develop a small green community area, within our campus. staying in flat/apartment accommodation with basic amenities separate for male and females. The volunteer will sleep on floor, we shall provide mattresses & linen but the volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bags and other personal toiletries. Food: Food offered will be simple authentic Indian vegetarian/non vegetarian and freshly cooked. Three meals a day will be served. Assistance while cooking is desired of volunteers. Volunteers are free to cook meals of their country choice on every Sunday.
