Testing the abode System Once the abode system is completely installed, (account created, gateway registered, & devices installed) we suggest that you perform a test to familiarize yourself with the system and to insure it s functioning properly. The test below can be accomplished by using the abode mobile or web app. Mobile app: Log into the abode mobile app and select status at the bottom of the page, then tap on the timeline tab at the top left. The list of all recent activity will be listed. As activity occurs, the list of events increases allowing the user to scroll up to view history. Swiping down on the timeline will refresh the screen. (Mobile app timeline is limited based on the abode plan you have chosen. The BASIC free plan provides 3 days of timeline and media storage, the CONNECT plan provides 14 Days of timeline and media storage, and the CONNECT & SECURE plan provides 90 days of timeline and media storage. Web app: Log into your abode account at my.goabode.com. The screen will open showing the dashboard, the list of all current events are listed in the timeline. As activity occurs the list of events increases allowing the user to scroll down to view all of the events. Before starting to test your system, keep the mobile or web app open so you can view the events as they show up on the timeline. 1. Testing the door/window sensors: ( The timeline will change when sensor status changes) Choose one of the door/window sensors, open then close it. Check the timeline list to insure that both events are listed. Continue testing the remaining door/window sensors. If any of the door/window sensor status change do not show up in the timeline, you may need to check the sensor for proper installation. Both the sensor and its magnet should be lined up with their alignment dots as close as possible without touching (no more than 1 inch). The door chime should also ding-dong each time a door/window sensor is opened. All sounds are user adjustable from the web app. 2. Key Fob operation: When performing this test, we recommend that you are not standing too close to the gateway, incase the system is triggered & the siren starts screaming. Wear ear protection if needed. Familiarize yourself with the Key Fob: it s used to turn the alarm system on and off. When looking at the Key Fob with the key ring located on the bottom right, you will notice the top left button has a small dot, this dot is the button that arms the system into the away mode. The bottom left button that looks like an X, shuts off the system, and the top right button, that looks like a larger circle with a dot, arms the system in the home mode. Away Button Disarm Button Red LED flashes when pressing button Home Button Future use Custom setting for audible panic
Testing the abode System Before testing the arming and disarming of the system: Please review the differences between arming in the Away mode, Home mode and Standby mode. The abode system has three modes of operation that the user can choose from. Standby mode turns off the intrusion protection: All door/window sensors and interior motion cameras are off, but leaves other sensors such as flood sensors, smoke and CO sensors enabled. This Standby mode is often referred to as the disarmed mode throughout the alarm industry and this document. Away mode turns on the homes perimeter protection: door/window sensors, shock sensors and interior motion cameras. No one should be left in the home when the system is armed in the Away mode. Home mode turns on the homes perimeter protection: door/window sensors and turns off the interior motions. The persons can remain in the home without triggering the alarm. Entry delay time: The purpose of an entry delay is to give a user time to enter the home while the system is armed and then disarm the system. The delay is set for one minute but is user adjustable. If the system is not disarmed before the delay ends, the system will be triggered. Interior motion detectors will typically be ignored during the entry delay period. Exit delay time: is the amount of time, set for one minute, between when you enter your code to arm the security system, and when the system actually begins monitoring the systems sensors. The delay is designed to give the user time to leave the home after arming the system from inside. When the user is not inside the home and changes the mode of the system to an armed state (Key Fob, web or mobile app) the system will wait for the delay time to end before the system arms. When changing the mode to Standby/Disarmed, the system will change mode immediately. During the test, use the mobile or web app to view the system mode status located at the top of their screens. Check to make sure the system mode is in the Standby mode. As you perform the test below, keep an eye on the system mode status indicator. Although you may arm the system, the mode status will not change until the delay timer has ended. (one minute) The delay time can be changed. Testing the Arming and disarming: Using the web or mobile app, the green system mode display is located at the top of the page. 1. Arming the system in the home mode. Tap on Home mode, the delay timer will start counting down and the gateway will beep until the count down time ends, the system will arm in the home mode. The interior sensors are off, but the door/windows are armed. The beeps for the timer are user changeable using the web app (Under Account/System settings). At any time, the systems can be disarmed by pressing the X on the Key Fob or taping standby on the web or mobile app. 2. While armed in the Home mode, the user can move throughout the home without triggering the system. 3. Before disarming the system, you can test the entry delay, read the following page for details.
Testing the entry delay timer Make sure the system is armed in the home mode. Your mobile and Web app should show that the system mode status is in the home mode, if not, put it into the home mode and wait until the system is armed and the beeping is stopped. The following test will cause the gateway to start beeping as the entry delay starts counting down. The entry and exit delays are defaulted to one minute. (Delays are user changeable on the web app under account/system settings). Remember that at any time, you can shut off the system by pressing the X on the Key Fob. Read the following steps 1-3 before starting the entry delay test. 1. Open one of the entry doors that has a sensor installed, this should start the entry delay countdown timer. This delay time causes the gateway to start beeping, which provides the user a reminder that the system is armed and to disarm the system before the delay time ends (one minute). If the system is not disarmed before the delay time ends, the system will be triggered causing the siren to start screaming. 2. Disarm the system using the key Fob by pressing on the bottom left X button until the red flashing stops, web or mobile app 3. The system should disarm, and the event should be listed on the mobile or web app timeline. The system mode indicator should show the system is in the standby mode. 4. The timeline should show that the entry door was opened, the entry delay timer started, and that the systems is disarmed. Testing the exit delay and motion camera The following test consist of arming the system in the away mode and waiting one full minute, then triggering the alarm system by walking in front of the motion cameras field of view. Once the sirens start screaming, you will then disarm the system. During this test, the siren will scream, keep a safe distance from the gateway & protect your ears if needed. 1. While in your home, insure that both door/window sensors are closed and no one is in the motion cameras field of view. (We recommend that during this test, no one is in the room where the motion camera is located in) 2. Using ether the Key Fob, mobile or web app, put the system into the away mode. This will start the gateway beeping as the one minute exit timer counts down. For this test, stay inside the home, you don t need to leave, this test we will trigger the alarm. 3. Once the exit timer stops beeping, check the mobile or web app mode status to make certain the system is armed in the away mode. The motion cameras should detect motion shortly after the system is armed. Read all of the following steps first before proceeding. 4. Now that the system is armed in the away mode and the motion cameras are awake, they are ready to detect movement, you can walk in front of the motion camera and trigger the alarm system. The motion camera will capture 3 images and the siren will start screaming. Have your Key Fob or phone in your hand so that you can quickly disarm the system when the siren is triggered. 5. Your alarm system has now been triggered and you have disarmed the system, the mobile and web app will show that the system was triggered by the motion camera and that the system was disarmed. The images that were captured should be arriving on the app, one at a time until all three images are viewable. You can then click on any of the images and a viewer will pop up to view them. See more on information on canceling alarm on the following page.
Motion camera functionality and walk testing Information about the motion cameras: The abode motion camera has a built in PIR (passive infrared) motion sensor that s similar to other motion sensors used for home security with the addition of a built in color image camera that can capture what was detected. When the system is (disarmed) in the standby mode, the motion camera sleeps, this helps to conserve battery life. Normally there are no lights that will light up on the motion camera unless images are being taken in low light level rooms. When the system is placed into the armed away mode, the motion camera wakes up so it can capture images if movement is detected. As the motion camera wakes up, it requires a full 30 seconds to warm up, so it can accurately detect movement. This 30 second warm up period starts the moment the system is armed in the away mode. Note: If you consider testing the motion camera by arming the system in the away mode, be sure to let the system complete its arming after the one minute delay ends before attempting to trigger the motion camera. This gives the motion camera plenty of time to warm up. Testing the motion sensor without arming the system. This simple test will wake up the motion sensor so you can check the range and detection sensitivity of the PIR motion sensor. (This will not cause the image camera to capture images or trigger the alarm system) 1. To enter Test mode on the motion camera, press and hold in the Function Button on the lower front of the motion camera for three full seconds and release the button. Quickly leave the room for a full 30 seconds so the motion camera can warm up and not detect you during this wake up period. 2. After the 30 second warm up period the test can begin, the motion camera will stay in the test mode for 3 minutes, then it will return to it s normal sleep mode. 3. You can now walk in front of the motion camera to check movement sensor range. If motion camera is triggered, the Blue LED will light up for 2 seconds. The motion camera can capture images during the following conditions: If movement is detected 30 seconds after the system has been armed into the away mode. If a user has requested one image while using the mobile or web app. If a user has created an automation scene requesting one image based on mode of system, status of a device, or location based Geo-location settings. Requesting an image does not require the detection of movement, it s simply an image of the room at the moment the request was made. Function button
Visual alarm verification Using your mobile app during an alarm event The following feature is a proprietary patent pending application from abode Responding to a false alarm event 1 - When an alarm event takes place, the system sends out notifications which can include a push notification to the users mobile app. When this happens and the user logs into the app, the first screen that appears is the Alarm is Active screen. The screen displays the timeline of the alarm event with the red bold letters Your Alarm is active across the top of the screen. The alarm event that triggered the system, will be highlighted in red. 3 - If the user has determined that the alarm event was a false alarm & the user pressed the Disable Alarm button, the confirmation app screen will pop up. The user can then confirm it was a false alarm by pressing Disable alarm, this action will disarm the system, and send out notifications to others that the alarm was ignored by the specific user. If abode s professional monitoring is enabled, they will also be notified to abort any action on this alarm event. If the event is more than 5 minutes old, monitoring agents may have already started processing the Alarm event. The agent can view the images to help determine if a human is present 2- The user should now view the event & any images that might have been captured. If the user can determine if the event is a false alarm, or a real verified alarm, the user can press the appropriate response. Real verified alarm or False- Disabled Alarm, lets choose Disable alarm Users name Once the Disabled alarm confirmation is processed, the timeline will list who ignored the alarm and disabled it. Addressing a real Verified Alarm, on the following page 6
Responding to a Real Verified alarm event 1 - In this example, the user has determined that the event is a Real Verified alarm and chooses Verify alarm. 2 - Once the user pressed the Verified Alarm button, the confirmation app screen will pop up. The user can then confirm it was a Real Verified Alarm by pressing Verified Alarm, this action will not disarm the system, but it will send out notifications to others that the alarm was Verified by a specific user. If abode s professional monitoring is enabled, the monitoring agent will also be notified that the user has determined that the alarm event is real and they can also view the captured images and video clips. 3- During a real alarm event, the gateway siren will continue to scream for 10 minutes. Users may choose to disarmed the system to silence it by pressing standby. This will not send out notifications that the user ignored the alarm event, just that the system was disarmed 4- Once the verified alarm confirmation is processed, the timeline will list that the alarm was verified by the user (name). If images of the events were captured, they too will be listed. NOTE: If your system also includes the abode streaming cameras, the gateway will command them to take video clips and post them in the time line as well. These clips may or may not have relevant information about the alarm event. Users name 7
Using the web app for visual verification alarm response Responding to a False or Verified Real alarm event 1 - When an alarm event takes place, the system sends out notifications which can include a push notification to the users mobile app. When this happens and the user logs into the web app, the web app opens up with a red banner at the top of the screen indicating that there is an Alarm Active, Your alarm is currently active. Click here to review and take action After clicking on the red banner, the verification screen appears, view the images and the events to determine if the event is real or false and choose the appropriate response.
Confirmation screens for False & Real Verified alarm event Once the user has determined if the event is false or real and makes their choice, a confirmation pops up describing the result of the decision the user is about to make. Once the alarm events have been processed, the timeline will list the actions taken. Users name
