1 River Currents Crescent Boat Club Newsletter Volume 16 Issue 6 June 2018 Hello, Everyone! I hope you are all enjoying this boating season so far. We got off to a rocky start with low water levels, but they have since risen. Hopefully, we can get out there and get some cruising in! Here s something that might be interesting to see; the Corning Museum of Glass Glass Barge and the replica Canal boat, Lois McClure, will be traveling the New York State Canal System this season to mark the 150 th anniversary of Corning Incorporated s move to Corning, NY via the Hudson River and New York s Canals, and the 100 th anniversary of the opening of the New York State Barge Canal. Both will be at the following locations: June 23 & 24 Port of Waterford June 25 Lock E-7, Niskayuna See you around the club! Michelle Hernandez Commodore Membership Meeting Sunday, June 10th 3:00pm Membership Meetings are held on the 2 nd Sunday of every month at 3:00pm in the Clubhouse. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Regular general meetings of the Club shall not be held during the months of July and August as a convenience during the boating season. 5 Kidde Fire Extinguisher Product Safety Recall Notice. You may have heard through the media that there is a recall issued for Kidde manufactured fire extinguishers. But did you know that it s not just the Kidde brand but others sold under a different brand name and the list and date range is quite extensive? The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announcement as well as the Kidde Product Safety Recall landing page for full details of the makes and models affected involves two styles of Kidde disposable fire extinguishers: Plastic handle fire extinguishers Plastic push-button fire extinguishers If you have one of the types indicated as a recalled item you can enter the details through the web site to confirm if your unit is subject to a recall or not and have replacements sent to you. However, the web site is not without error; I entered the details of the 4 units we have (2 home, 2 marine) and it indicated they were not subject to the recall. Being of the style, model and date range affected, I was skeptical and called the toll free number to check. Sure enough they are subject to the recall and new units are being shipped. So check your fire extinguishers at home and on the boat, car, RV etc. so see if you have this type of extinguisher and verify with Kidde its recall status. If your boat is wrapped or inaccessible until spring, set a reminder for opening up season to check the first time you get onboard. The chances are these will work as designed - but who wants to only find out it doesn t if it s actually needed?
