2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: This fine pump that you have just purchased is designed from the latest in material and workmanship. Before installation and operation, we recommend the following procedures: A B C D CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING CODES TO ENSURE YOU COMPLY WITH THE REGULATIONS. THESE CODES HAVE BEEN DESIGNED WITH YOUR SAFETY IN MIND. BE SURE YOU COMPLY WITH THEM. WE RECOMMEND THAT A SEPARATE CIRCUIT BE LEAD FROM THE HOME ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION PANEL PROPERLY PROTECTED WITH A FUSE OR A CIRCUIT BREAKER. THE MOTOR HAVE TO BE SECURELY PLUGGED INTO A PROPER GFCI ELECTRICAL OUTLET. CONSULT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN FOR ALL WIRING. THE GROUND TERMINAL ON THE THREE PRONG PLUGS SHOULD NEVER BE REMOVED. THEY ARE SUPPLIED AND DESIGNED FOR YOUR PROTECTION. NEVER MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO ANY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE OR PRODUCT WITH THE POWER CONNECTED. DO NOT ONLY UNSCREW THE FUSE OR TRIP THE BREAKER, REMOVE THE POWER PLUG FROM THE RECEPTACLE. MONTHLY MANDATORY CHECK-UP : 1. Inspect the pump and the sump for any obvious condition that necessitates cleaning, correction, adjustement or repair. 2. Clear the sump and the surroundings of any paper, leaves or other debris that might clog the input openings. Remove anything that might float into the suction area. 3. Assure that the pump is secure and vertical for proper operation. 4. Assure that there is adequate clearance from any combustible materials or structure. Stored materials must be kept away from the pump. Shelves or cabinet structures must not be in close proximity over the pump. 5. Test the GFCI outlet by pressing its test switch. This should prove that the outlet is energized and will trip off to protect against a ground fault. Be sure to reset the GFCI by pressing its reset switch. 6. Lift the float to prove that the pump will start when required. (Step 8 below will test submersible pumps with enclosed floats). 7. Put the necessary pail of water in the sump to prove that any check valve present will permit effluent to flow. 8. Observe that the plumbing can carry the effluent safely out of the residence. MATERIAL REQUIRED FOR A SUBMERSIBLE SUMP PUMP APPLICATION Desired length of 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 of ABS/DWV pipe to link up the pump to the drain line. 1 only 1 1/4 check valve (350353) or (350363). Sump pit or 1 only sump basin. 1 1/4-1 1/2 stainless steel clamps (750886). ABS cement. Tools Screwdrivers, hacksaw to cut pipe, knife to assist in pipe cutting, round file to smooth pipe ends, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench to tighten fittings. 2

3 APPLICATION This submersible sump pump is designed for a permanent sump installation. To be used in a residential cottage and farm application. Piggy back grounded cables 115VAC, 60Hz. 1/2 HP 4.6 A, (9.2 A at start) IMPORTANT NOTICE INSTRUCTION STEPS Please note before you proceed with the installation of this product that the manufacturer s guideline has to be respected. Failure to comply may void your warranty. The following are minimum requirements in order to protect your residence from flooding. It is a small investment but it is your personal responsibility to protect your home, family and valuables. Failure to comply with the following requirements may also void your warranty: Two (2) pumps have to be installed in the sump pit. The first pump as a primary pump and the second pump as the backup unit. Burcam alarm system model has to be installed to advise you of any malfunctions. As sump pumps are electrically powered and activated so to prevent flooding, a Burcam battery powered back up pump model has to be installed to evacuate the water. Pump selection, proper and adequate installation are a must to comply with local by-laws and need to be adhered to. STEP 1 STEP 2 We recommend that you install your pump in a clean location where there is adequate room for servicing at a later date. Protection from freezing temperatures and good ventilation should be considered as well, to provide the pump an environment for long life. Do not use to pump gas or toxic fuels. This submersible sump pump is designed to pump water only. Friction losses in the discharge pipe must be taken into consideration when the horizontal offset is greater than 50 feet. The discharge pipe should be increased from 1 1/2 to 2. This will reduce friction losses and allow the pump to give maximum performance. More friction losses must also be taken into consideration when many elbows and fittings are installed in the discharge line. Each elbows and fittings must be considered as 1 feet of head. The float switch of your pump has been pre-set at the factory and does not need any adjustment. Never run the pump dry. Damage to the seal may occur. Fill pump pit or sump basin with water before turning on the power. Assuming that you have a sump pit located in your basement floor... Your sump pit must be constructed from concrete, brick, tile or more recently a sump basin made from plastic and/ or fiberglass. The minimum size of your sump pit must be 18 in diameter and no less than 25 deep. When pit is ready, proceed to next step. 3

4 STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5 STEP 6 STEP 7 STEP 8 SUMP PUMP APPLICATION (SEE DIAGRAM ON PAGE 5) At this step, you have the opportunity to install a 1 1/2 or a 1 1/4 discharge. We recommend a 1 1/2 ABS/DWV discharge. Install a check valve ( in-line 1 1/2 or /4 MNPT inlet and 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 outlet or /2 MNPT inlet and 1 1/2 or 2 outlet) over discharge pipe of your pump and secure it with stainless steel clamps or glued nipple for ABS/ DWV pipe. This check valve will allow easy access to pump, should service be required. Install and position your submersible sump pump in the centre of your sump pit or basin and ensure that there is clearance to allow the vertical float switch a free working area without obstructions (pipe, pit s wall, power cord). The float cord length is factory set and should not need adjustment. If adjustment is required, the switch cord can be shorted or lengthed. Install your discharge pipe from check valve to the point of discharge or drain. For installation over 50 feet of horizontal position discharge pipe, use a 2 pipe to reduce friction loss. We recommend that a licensed electrician be employed to do wiring. Permanently ground the motor in accordance to the electrical codes for your area. Do not use an extension cord to connect your pump to the power source. From your distribution panel to the receptacle, we recommend a wire gauge not smaller than 14 gauge. Use tape or tie wrap to fix power cords to discharge pipe. Fill the sump pit or basin with water to test the operation of your submersible sump pump. The motor should start when the water level reaches approximetely 3 over your pump. Allow the pump to go through several on-off cycle to assure satisfactory operation. If needed, see trouble shooting guide in this manual. Review your installation with typical diagram. Check all connections for leaks. MAINTENANCE Unplug the switch and pump motor power cord. Remove the pump from pit or basin. Remove trash accumulation and dirt from the pump and float switch. Be sure the float switch operates freely after cleaning. If tar or paint has been received in the pit or basin, use kerosene to remove residue from float switch or pump. Do not use strong paint solvents. Remove the screws that hold the strainer or the base to the bottom of the pump body. Pry the base off the pump body carefully. Clean the impeller and volute passage way from any debris wich may have become in contact with these parts. Again, If tar or paint has entered pump, clean with kerosene. Do not use strong paint solvents. Be sure impeller turns freely after cleaning. Check and clean away any debris wich may be clogging the suction inlet, pump discharge, check valve and discharge line. Replace screws and return sump pump to sump pit or basin and reconnect to piping. 4

Nevertheless, to get the most out of your Wi-Fi Water Watcher, a back-up battery for your router and modem is required to maintain connectivity in case of a power failure. This kind of back-up system is available from all reputable computer equipment retailers. We highly recommend adding such a system to your existing computer equipment if you have not already done so. This product was developed to notify you when a liquid level reaches a critical point. However, it does not offer any guarantee that messages will be transmitted due to the nature of the product itself. There are several steps involved in the transmission of a message between the alarm and your smart phone including your router and your modem, your internet access, several servers, our internet access, our provider for text message transmission, your cell phone service provider, etc., as well as any other device within the transmission network between the Wi-Fi Water Watcher and your smart phone. Although all devices within the transmission network have a high degree of reliability, one of them may stop functioning due to factors that are beyond our control, which may prevent messages from being transmitted. It is your responsibility to regularly check that your product is functional. A detailed manual is available at Search for product model P.2

9 Safety and supplementary information Battery is fully charged when LED is flashing slowly.. The battery needs to be recharged when LED is flashing rapidly. Power supply is connected when LED is on. Float sensor well connected when LED is flashing slowly. When LED is flashing rapidly the float is not well connected to the device or the float is missing. Connected to Wi-Fi network when LED is on. 10 Quick set-up of the Wi-Fi Water Watcher. To connect the alarm controller to your router, you need a computer, a tablet or a smart phone having a Wi Fi connectivity and a Web browser installed. ** Before you begin, have your local Wi Fi name (SSID) and password handy, as well as the encryption method (normally WPA2PSK) and encryption algorithm (normally AES) of your router. ** Step 1. To connect the alarm controller to your local Wi Fi router. A. For initial set up purposes, install the alarm controller within 15 feet (5 meters) of your Wi Fi router. B. Connect the enclosed power supply to the appropriate port on the control panel at the rear of the alarm controller and then plug it into a 115V AC receptacle. C. Connect the enclosed float sensor to the appropriate port on the control panel of the alarm controller. Keep the float sensor pointing downwards. D. Push the On/Off button on the control panel. The left LED will turn on to confirm the unit is powered by the power supply. E. Wait one minute then push the RESET button on the control panel until you hear the two-beep signal. Then release the button and you will hear the two-beep signal once more. Wait ten seconds then turn off the unit by pressing the On/Off button. Wait thirty seconds then push the On/Off button again. The unit will restart with its hot spot activated. It is now ready to be connected to the Wi Fi network. F. Using a computer, a tablet, or a smart phone, connect it to the alarm controller s hot spot. This hot spot will appear on your available Wi Fi networks as WATERALARM. P.4 Select it and enter the BURCAM15 password (case sensitive all uppercase letters). You are now connected to the hot spot. G. Open your web browser and enter the web address (URL) in the address bar of your web browser to open the set-up page of the alarm controller. H. Enter the Username admin (case sensitive) and the Password admin. Then click on Log In. You now have access to the alarm controller set-up page. I. Click on Work Mode on the left menu and select STA mode, then click on Save only. Do not click on Restart or Back. J. Click on STA Setting on the left menu. Then, replace the Wi Fi name (SSID) by your local router Wi Fi name (case sensitive). You may also scan to list the available Wi Fi networks in range and select your network. Since no password is entered, click on the OK button on the warning window. Select the encryption method of your network generally WPA2PSK and the encryption algorithm generally AES and enter your Wi Fi network password in the appropriate field, then click on Save. K. Click on Restart to allow your alarm controller to connect to your Wi Fi network. L. Wait until the far right LED turns on to confirm that the alarm controller is connected to your local Wi Fi router. M. If ever the far right LED does not turn on, you have probably not selected the appropriate encryption method and/or encryption algorithm for your router. Find the correct information and re-start the process at the line D. N. To finalise the connection to your router, press the On/Off button, wait thirty seconds then push the On/Off button again. This is to confirm that the unit reconnects automatically to your Wi Fi network.

11 Step 2. To configure the system manager to receive the messages. A Go to B. Click on the Wi Fi Water Watcher set-up button. C. Enter the serial number in the appropriate field and click OK. D. When your serial number is validated, click on create your parameters. E. Choose a password that you will remember and enter it as your access code. Enter the password a second time and click on validate. F. Enter up to three addresses and three phone numbers which will receive the messages. Check the I confirm box and click on submit. G. If desired, you can return to the line 2B and enter your serial number and password to update the addresses and phone numbers at your convenience. Step 3. To test the transmissions. A. Push the test button on the control panel of the alarm controller. You will receive the test message within 2 minutes. B. Test that the float sensor is functional by lifting up the float sensor to trigger the high level alarm. Upon reception of the high level alarm message, reposition the float sensor so that it is pointing downwards and press the reset button to receive the reset confirmation message. You may reset at any time, but you will still receive the high water level message three times at five-minute intervals even after resetting the unit. You can now install the unit near the sump, sewage, or liquid container to monitor abnormally high liquid levels. Set the float sensor to turn the alarm on 1 above the highest normal liquid level of the application. 12 Types of messages that can be received: A TRANSMISSION TEST message is sent when the test button of the control panel is pushed. A POWER SOURCE CHANGE message is sent when the power source changes from 115V to the battery back-up (if the 115V power supply stops powering the unit). A LOW BATTERY message is sent when the battery needs to be recharged. A HIGH LIQUID LEVEL message is sent when the float lifts up and triggers the alarm. This message is automatically sent a second time five minutes after the original message and a third time ten minutes after the original message. A HIGH LIQUID LEVEL REMINDER message is sent every fifteen minutes until the unit is reset. This message is only sent after the initial high liquid level message has been sent and if the unit has not been reset. A RESET CONFIRMATION message is sent when the reset button of the control panel is pushed (float sensor must be pointing downwards prior to doing the reset). A CONFIRMATION OF ONGOING COMMUNICATION message is sent monthly to advise the owner that the connection to our server is still active (on an hourly basis, the device sends a signal to our server, which monitors when this message is received).
