1 Object and purpose Object: JUMO sensors for industrial processes (chemical plants, petrochemicals, pressure tanks, storage of grain etc.) are chiefly used for measuring temperature in liquid, gaseous and dusty environments in the presence of explosive atmospheres. The sensors are made up of a solid bored or mechanically welded protective sleeve in stainless steel, nickel alloy, titanium etc., with or without swaging, and different process connections. The plunger may also have a protective sleeve jacketed with mineral insulation in stainless steel, nickel alloy. The standard measuring element has a Pt100 temperature probe according to EN 60751, class B, for 2, 3 or 4 wire connections, which are also available in single, double and other versions; see technical data sheet For thermocouples, the measuring elements comply with EN 60584; see technical data sheet Specifications and applications: Type TXI.03 TXI.03 Ch.P Ch.P C.D.E C.D.E Technical data sheet / / / / / / / / / / / /60 Mode of protection Group Category + atmosphere: Gas=G/Dust=D Zone Protection rating ia II 1G 0,1,2 Ga ia II III 1G 1D 0, 1, 2 20, 21, 22 Ga Da e II 2G 1, 2 Gb e ta II III 2G 1D 1, 2 20, 21, 22 Gb Da e II 2G 1, 2 Gb e ta II III 2G 1D 1, 2 20, 21, 22 Gb Da Technical Data Sheet : Thermocouples with compensating/extension cable for industrial processes and ATEX EC Type Examination Attestation and/or IECEx certificate, CSA/UL certification, PESO certification. The maximum service temperature may not be exceeded. The permissible ambient temperature may not be exceeded. The protection rating of the device must be followed during implementation. Upon installation, sensor connection must comply with the electrical values determined in Ex attestations, IECEx certificates and certificate of conformity CSA/UL. 5

The sensors may not be modified in any way. If that happens, perfect working cannot be guaranteed. The guarantee will be voided. If any replaceable measuring element is replaced, use only original JUMO parts of the same type. Make sure the cable or insulation are not damaged while mounting the sensor on the process. The cable is to be installed so as to be fixed. While mounting, removing or operating the sensor, make sure that no pulling force or pressure above 17 Newton is applied on the cable. The technical data that are relevant to the use of the device in an area with an explosion hazard (Ex area) are presented in the corresponding data sheet. In order to prevent temperature rises due to the accumulation or transfer of heat, keep away from hot parts of the installation and thermal insulation systems, and provide for heat dissipation through unhampered air circulation. The national and international safety and accident prevention regulations must be followed for installing and working on or with the devices. Furthermore, the operator of the plant or installation is responsible for the observance of legal requirements. 4 Conformance with standards Type TXI.03 Ch.P ATEX type examination LCIE 03 ATEX 6290 X LCIE 03 ATEX 6088 X EN standards IECEx certificate IEC standards EN (2012) EN (2012) EN (2012) EN (2015) EN (2014) IECEx LCIE X IECEx LCIE X Ch.P CSA C.D.E Ch.P LCIE 03 ATEX 6087 X EN (2012) EN (2007) EN (2009) IECEx LCIE X PESO P413963/1 P413963/2 IEC (2011) IEC (2011) IEC (2011) IEC (2015) IEC (2014) CSA C22 2 No :12 CSA C22 2 No :12 ANSI/ISA :09 ANSI/ISA :05 IEC (2011) IEC (2006) IEC (2008) Indian Petroleum Rules, Technical data CAUTION: for specific data, see the technical data sheet/detail drawing and/or the label that is affixed to theses operating instructions. 5.1 Intrinsically safe connection, Ex I protection (TXI.03 sensor) The equipment used in areas with an explosion hazard only contains intrinsically safe circuits.. A circuit is intrinsically safe if, in normal operation and if there is a failure due to a short circuit, no flammable spark is produced or if the surface of the device does not heat beyond the defined temperature class (see also EN ). 6

In order for a circuit to be designated as intrinsically safe, every individual device included in the circuit must be designed to be intrinsically safe. Furthermore, it is necessary to test that the complete circuit of the (individually) intrinsically safe devices forms, as a whole, an intrinsically safe circuit. Interconnection alone does not guarantee that the circuit is intrinsically safe. The intrinsic safety loop must be calculated. To provide evidence of intrinsic safety, the electrical boundary values must comply with the attestations covering the equipment. The conditions are verified by comparing with the permissible boundary values of the electrical equipment: 'i' Electrical equipment Voltage (U) Ui Current (I) li Power (W) Pi Inductance (mh) Li (+Lc cable) Capacitance (µf) Ci (+Lc cable) Lists of cables used for manufacturing the sensors Associated equipment Uo Io So Lo Co TN Description Max. usage T. As a result, the element self-heats and the temperature at the surface of the protective sleeve rises. Care must be taken to ensure that the boundary of the temperature class is not exceeded. 8 Explanation: The following safety reserves must also be complied with: Category 1: according to EN : 2011, item (hot surfaces), "the temperatures of any and all equipment (...) surfaces" used in Zone 0 "which can come into contact with explosive atmospheres shall not (...) exceed 80 % of the auto ignition temperature"! Temperature class minus 20%! Further, 10 C must be subtracted additionally in temperature classes T1 and T2 and 5 C in temperature classes T3 T6. Category 2: 10 C must be subtracted as a safety measure in temperature classes T1 T2 and 5 C in temperature classes T3 T6 The surface heating itself is influenced by the design of the temperature probe, by the ambient conditions (thermal coupling with the medium being measured) and the power that is applied. The self-heating behaviour of the probe is characterised by a constant of the protective sleeve SK [K/W], which indicates, when the air is static, the heating of the circuit in relation to the environment temperature depending on the power transferred. The constant of the protective sleeve SK is defined by JUMO and is indicated in the ATEX data sheet. For the corresponding case of application and the connected electrical equipment, the user must determine whether the probe is suitable for the measuring task. The following equation is used to calculate the max. permissible temperature at the tip of the probe: T S = TK PI x SK T S : Max. permissible temperature at the tip of the probe T K : Max. permissible temperature of the surface in relation to the temperature class (see table, minus safety margin) P i : Power rating of the electrical circuit certified to be intrinsically safe SK: Constant of the protective sleeve (see technical data sheet) The following diagram illustrates the self-heating of the probe surface of a thermocouple as a function of the applied power and thus the temperature arising within the probe. (Self-heating is independent of the protection type, and also applies to the flameproof enclosure). 8

Self-heating of a Pt100 resistance probe Example 1 A probe is to be used in temperature class T4 (maximum temperature 135 C, reduction of the limit by 5 K as a safety reserve); Constant of the protective sleeve SK = 80 K/W Max. power in the circuit P = 0.5 W TS = 130 C 0.5 W x 80 K/W TS = 130 C 40 K = 90 C So the maximum temperature (the temperature of the medium being measured) on the probe tip must not exceed 90 C, since in the event of a fault it is possible that the limit for the temperature class will be exceeded. DANGER OF EXPLOSION! Example 2 The same thermometer is to be used in the same application as above, but this time using the JUMO dtrans T02 Ex transmitter, allows a higher maximum surface temperature, resulting in a wider range of application: Constant of the protective sleeve SK = 80 K/W Max. power in the circuit P = W (JUMO type transmitter) TS = 130 C W x 80 K/W TS = 130 C 2.32 K = C So the maximum temperature (the temperature of the medium being measured) on the probe tip must not exceed C, since in the event of a fault it is possible that the limit for the temperature class will be exceeded. DANGER OF EXPLOSION! 5.2 Increased safety Ex e protection (Ch.P and C.D.E sensor) This protection mode consists in applying measures in order to prevent, using a high safety coefficient, the possibility of excessive temperatures and the occurrence of electric arcs or sparks inside or on the outer parts of the electrical equipment that do not occur in normal service or in the event of failure. Increased safety must not necessarily be connected to an intrinsically safe electrical circuit; however, care must be taken to ensure that the heating of the probe remains limited in all operating modes, as described in paragraph 5.1 and examples 1 and 2. The Ex e increased safety alone is not sufficient for use in zone 0 (G) or 20 (D)! Two independent protection modes and/or a separating element to separate the zones are required. The equipment has accessories (ATEX/IECEx housings, ATEX/IECEx terminal boxes or glands) in accordance with standard EN /IEC and EN /IEC The transfer of the outer ground must be connected to the earth or integrated into the equipotential bonding of the site. 10 Ambient temperature The ambient temperature at the sensor connecting housing must not exceed the following temperature range: -20 to +60 C (Ch.P). The ambient temperature at the sensor cable entry must not exceed the following temperature range: - 20 to +60 C (C.D.E). For use in a different ambient temperature, the certified connecting head (housing) and the certified cable entry used must be certified for that temperature, for example: ambient temperature -40 C, housing certified for -40 C with cable entry certified for -40 C. That is possible when the following conditions are met: Dust in the form of a cloud: To prevent the ignition of dusty atmospheres, the maximum surface temperature must be limited. It must be lower than the smaller of the two values, or 2/3rds of the self-ignition temperature of the cloud of dust in question. Dust in layers: Surfaces on which it is not possible to prevent a hazardous deposit of incandescent dust. The surface temperature must not exceed the incandescence temperature minus 75 K. If the layer is greater than 5 mm, the surface temperature must be reduced further. If dust is present in the form of both a cloud and a layer, as is often the case, use the less favourable case. Note: In this case, surface means the external surface of the equipment, see also EN The ignition or smoldering temperature of the dust or dust-air mixture that is present must be defined or determined by the operator of the plant or system! 10

6 Installation The valid European and national regulations must be observed for installation and operation. The generally accepted state of the art and these operating instructions must be applied. Sensors from JUMO are used to measure temperature within areas with an explosion hazard, containing flammable and non-flammable liquids, gases or gas-air mixtures or potentially explosive dusts. They are powered and operated in an intrinsically safe manner through electrical circuits certified to be intrinsically safe. The sensors are mounted on site with the process connection. The sensor may need to be built into an additional screw-in or weld-in pocket, depending on the process connection. If a thread is provided as a process connection, then the entire thread length of the sensor must be in contact. The power cable of the sensor must be fixed in position when mounted to containers or pipelines that contain potentially explosive gas/air mixtures (zones 0, 1G and/or EPL Ga) or combustible dust are present continuously or for long periods. The equipotential bonding (earth connection of the device) include the entire wiring of the measuring circuit! Metallic connector housings must be grounded via the compensating cable, for equipotential bonding. Non-metallic connector housings must not exceed the maximum surface area specified by EN

The screw-in or weld-in pocket can also serve to separate zones, and is made from steel, stainless steel, Hastelloy, etc. with a minimum wall thickness of 1mm. Norm EN "Explosive atmospheres - Part 14: Electrical installations design, selection and erection" needs to be observed! The equipment designed for explosive atmospheres, in the presence of hybrid mixtures, must be Equipment for potentially explosive areas which contain hybrid mixtures has to be especially checked for this use. Hybrid mixtures are potentially explosive mixtures out of combustible gases, vapors, or mists with combustible dust. The operator bears the responsibility of checking if the equipment is suitable for such uses. Caution: In all cases, zoning is the responsibility of the plant/system operator, and not of the manufacturer/supplier of the equipment! Zone class Gases, mists, Potentially explosive Dusts vapors atmosphere present Guide values Zone 0 Zone 20 continually, long-term or frequently 1000 hours/year Zone 1 Zone 21 Occasionally hours/year Zone 2 Zone 22 infrequently, short-term 10 hours/year 7 Maintenance The valid European and national regulations must be observed for maintenance, servicing and testing. During maintenance, all parts must be tested that are relevant for the explosion protection rating. In addition, sensors with a plastic terminal head as well as all plastic components (e.g. connectors and the like) must only be cleaned with a damp cloth, to avoid building up an electrostatic charge. 8 Connection for thermocouples (applies to JUMO head-end and line thermocouples) 12

9 Connection for RTD temperature probes (applies to Pt500 and Pt1000, for JUMO resistance probes with cable connecting head) 10 Attestations and certificates Download Ex attestations and IECEx certificates from our website: 13
