3 Page 3 General Introduction Overview The plus the sensors is a material flow-measuring system, which is using the vibration measuring principle. The vibrations are detected by the sensors, acting as a directional microphone, and converted into an electrical signal. Configurations from minumum 2 sensors to maximum 14 sensors are possible. 4 Page 4 Equipment specification Audible sensor All hoods and housing are in accordance with International Standard IEC 529 (DIN ) degree of protection IP 65 which specifies that enclosures are protected against windblown, dust and rain, splashing water and hose directed water. Specifications: Temperature range sensor -40 C to +130 C Temperature range electronic 0 C to +100 C Caution! Electrostatic discharge can degrade performance or damage electronic modules. Touch a grounded object to rid yourself of charge before handling the modules. Sensor wiring Warning! Make electrical connections with the power supply switched off! 16 Page 16 Operation and maintenance Calibration Preparing for adjustments: Connect a oscilloscope over the 47Ohm resistor which is placed beside the lower front trimmer (make sure there is no earth potential on the probe). Connect a function-generator between ground and the current loop signal input (pin 9 to 15 of HAN-connector) and apply a sinusoidal voltage with a frequence of 1kHz. Adjust the amplitude until 3Vss (1Veff). Adjusting the audio part: Now connect the oscilloscope between ground and the corresponding audio signal output and adjust the amplitude with the upper front trimmer (gain) to 6Vss (2.1Veff). Adjusting the bargraph output: For this adjustment, it is necessary to connect a shunt (33Ohm-470Ohm) at the bargraph output at the 37pin SUB-D-connector at the rear and measure the current flows through the shunt. Turn the two trimmers on the top of the PCB (left pair for the first channel) alternately until 4mA flows if no signal is applied, respectively 20mA at full input signal (500k = Offset, 10k = Gain). Adjusting the alarm part: Adjusting the alarm part is very simply: Reduce the signal from the function-generator to the half (1.4Vss = 500mVeff) and turn the lower front trimmer until the signal-led-alarm goes on.

17 Page 17 Operation modes When power-switch is on, the four red lamps above the power-switch illuminates, that the power supply is operating and all voltages are ok. If one of these lamps remain dark, there is a fault. The two green flow indication lamps on each Sensor-Logic-Card shows the status of the audible sensor s. Two operating modes allow the to check Flow and No Flow. The operating modes are selected on the Sensor-Logic-Card by choosing up-position (No Flow) or down-position (Flow) of the sensor switch. In the middle-position no alarm-output is active. If the function of the is changed (Flow / No Flow), it is necessary, to wait in the middle-position of the sensor switch until the alarm lamp is off. In Flow-Mode,the alarm output is set, when no trigger-impulse is coming from transmitter for the selected time. In No-Flow-Mode the reason of an occured error is the same, but in this mode the trigger-impulse has still standing longer then the selected time. The trigger-time can be selected by the two jumpers on each Sensor-Logic-Card. This jumpers are near the 64pin bus-connector. There is the possibility of selecting four different trigger-times, which are defined as follows: J1 close open close open J2 close close open open Time 15sec 30sec 45sec 60sec J1 means the upper jumper, J2 the lower jumper, when the front panel is on the left hand side. With the Audio-Select-Switch on the Amplifier-Card you can select the source of the audioamplifier. In position 0 the audio-amplifier is turned off. This audio signal can also take of with a standard stereo headphone at the 3.5mm connector on the front of the Sensor-Logic-Cards. There is also the possibilty of connecting an oscilloscope to the headphone output. So the signals can be visually adjusted to the same level. Additional, on connector -X4 there are the audio signals from the several channels. On -X9 there are several alarm signals available. Pin 1 to 14 carries the single alarms (NC). Pin 23 and 24 is the group alarm (NO). -X3 carries the filtered input signal as a current loop signal (4mA means no input signal, 20mA means full input signal). The load resistance may be from 33Ohm to 470Ohm. If the load resistance is to low, there is the possibility of static damage of the Audible Flow Monitoring System. Warning! Connect this output only to an insulated device. Connecting to an non-insulated device may cause in static damage of the and of the external device. If the device is in the No-Flow-Mode, there is no alarm if the sensor is disconnected or faulty.

18 Page 18 Repairs Check the condition of the probes during regular maintence inspections. If necessary, free them of build-up. Remember that all probes are sensitive instruments and must be treated accordingly. Should the Flow Monitor or its sensor need to be repaired, send the defect modul to ATV- Elektronik, with a note containing the following information: A short description of the fault
