9 Case Studies Heathrow Terminal 5 - UK The T5 terminal at Heathrow airport was a major construction project involving numerous trades and skills and required a great deal of project management to make sure the total project ran to schedule. In the early part of a project of this size every company is on a learning curve and delays on completion invariably occur. Cooper B-Line rose to this challenge and was able to accommodate the ever changing situation which can occur on a project of this size. Our team at Highbridge have a wide experience in project management including planning, scheduling and logistical support. Cooper B-Line working in partnership with BAA during the Heathrow Terminal 5 project, supplied over 1350 Access racks along with numerous racks from the IP54 Range for the baggage area and various locations across the site. BAA supplied information regarding the power dissipation of the equipment, the ambient temperature of the working environment and any solar gain that could effect the internal temperature of the cabinet. Cooper B-Line used this variable information and calculated the heat dissipation required. The airport opened on time in March 2008 and Cooper B-Line are pleased to say "We helped with the building of T5" Atlantis, the Palm - Dubai Cooper Controls at Atlantis, the Palm - Dubai This World famous resort situated on 47 hectares at the crown of the palm-shaped artificial island Palm Jumeirah, opened on 24th September 2009 followed by a star studded three day party and a spectacular firework display that was visible from outer space. The opening festivities were reputed to have cost a World record sum of US$ 20 million. The complete lighting controls package at the recently opened Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai was manufactured, supplied and commissioned by Cooper Controls. This massive US$5 million plus lighting controls contract was project managed for an on time finish by a Cooper Team drawn from both its UK and Dubai offices. The 1539 guest room hotel uses lighting designs by Craig Roberts Associates, Dallas and Focus Lighting, New York and required the installation of over 10,000 channels of Cooper Controls dimmers with 1,000 control plates. A wide range of light sources are installed including mains tungsten, 0-10Vdc fluorescent, metal halide, multi-colour LEDs, cold cathode and LV electronic transformer fittings, all of which are handled by Cooper s Adaptive Range of source controllers. The Dokhaven waste water treatment plant (wwtp) is located in the centre of Rotterdam. However, as the Rioolwaterzuiveringsinrichting Dokhaven from Watershap Hollandse Delta is the only underground waste water treatment plant in the Netherlands, it can neither be seen nor smelled by the residents here m³ are treated every hour. The plant has a capacity of p.e. (1 p.e. is the average quantity of polluted water per resident per day) and it processes the waste water from nearly half a million households. As, due to chemical reactions caused by the substances dissolved in the waste water, a potentially explosive atmosphere can occur at any time, explosion protection plays an important part in the field of waste water treatment. The gas detectors used here guarantee safe operation. Thanks to the explosion-protected exlink plug-in connections the detectors can be replaced and serviced at all times. This enables better safety and lower maintenance costs. 10

10 St Pancras - UK Cooper lights the way at revitalised St Pancras Station. Cooper Lighting and Safety has designed, manufactured and supplied over 1600 bespoke luminaires for the platform lighting system at the revitalised St Pancras International Station. London & Continental Railways has spent 800million restoring the original Barlow Shed to its Victorian grandeur and adding a new extension to accommodate the longer Eurostar trains. As well as providing downlighting to illuminate the platform for passengers, the luminaires were also designed to include an element of uplighting, which provides some illumination for the vast arched roof of the Barlow Shed. In addition to the platform lighting, Cooper also designed and manufactured the vertical LED-based exit signs built into each passenger information point and the horizontal versions suspended above the concourse at the south end of the station. Behind the scenes, Cooper supplied some 100,000-worth of standard items from its Crompton Lighting range for offices and other areas of the station. Ciba Plant - Switzerland MTL and GECMA suppl y industrial grade security and network integration. The Ciba plant in Schweizerhalle is primarily used for new product development, and is where the associated new product processes are also scaled up from laboratory to production level. The manufacturing plants are on-site and are distributed over several floors. In many areas Explorer Panel PCs from Gecma are installed which offer local process supervision. The whole production surroundings are classified as Zone 2 hazardous area. MTL was asked to supply Industrial Ethernet interfaces and mobile HMI stations to transform some of the production areas so that mobile process visualisation could be implemented. Central control and monitoring of the emergency lighting system was also simplified by using a central battery system. Regular testing can be quickly and easily carried out in compliance with the mandatory regulations. Emirates Stadium - UK Cooper emergency lighting system protects football fans at Emirates Stadium. Football supporters visiting Arsenal s Emirates Stadium are enjoying the protection of a static-inverter based emergency lighting system supplied by Cooper Lighting and Safety. With crowd safety the paramount concern in the design of the new stadium, a reliable, highquality emergency lighting system was essential to ensure that people would be able to leave safely in the event of a mains power failure. Installed at different locations throughout the stadium, static inverters are connected to hundreds of individual Menvier and JSB emergency luminaires and to any mains luminaires that have been designated for emergency use. In addition to the emergency lighting system, Cooper also supplied a wide variety of luminaires from its Crompton Lighting range of mains lighting products, including Solstar fluorescent downlights, Moduseal IP65 and Moduspec modular recessed luminaires, Moduwall asymmetric wall-washer luminaires and Crompack fluorescent battens. 11

18 Portable Ex Lamps Portable ex-torches, hand lamps, searchlights and caplamps made by CEAG are used for industrial applications such as security patrols, inspections and repair work as well as for police, fire brigade and other public services. 25 History of Cooper Industries Cooper Industries origins extend back more than 170 years to a small iron foundry in Mount Vernon, Ohio, started by brothers Charles and Elias Cooper in Today, Cooper Industries has become a leading worldwide manufacturer of electrical products and tools and hardware. For the first 125 years of its history, Cooper was primarily manufacturing power and compression equipment for the transmission of natural gas. In the 1960 s, Cooper began to diversify by broadening its product lines and expanding internationally. The product lines now include petroleum and industrial equipment, electrical products, electrical power equipment, automotive products, tools and hardware. Cooper s European presence was developed through the acquisition of market leading brands serving the electrical marketplace. Many of these brands have a long-established history such as the CEAG company which started as a supplier for the coal mining industry in the early 1900 s giving it a long history of superior quality products. Other renowned members of Cooper s portfolio include MTL Instruments, Menvier emergency lighting and fire detection systems and many others. Today, this extensive network of companies continues to demonstrate strong leadership in product innovation, engineering, manufacturing, distribution and technical support throughout the world. Cooper s geographical expansion carries on with most recently the opening of its first manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia which offers an extensive line of electrical products, components and engineering services for the region s oil and gas market. 26
