All participants will meet in general session for a welcoming and the initial business meeting, including nominations for OFMA Officers and Board Positions. In April 2007, the community of Canby, Oregon experienced the explosion of a residence with three firefighters inside. The cause of the explosion was a subterranean natural gas leak. This portion of the presentation will focus on the elements of fire operations, risk analysis, training, and investigation. Participants will gain a better understanding of the physical properties of natural gas and its use for home heating. Information on the subject of carbon monoxide, NFPA 921, and a dynamic explosive display is part of this track! This panel discussion will focus on: Oregon Sprinkler Coalition BCD Residential Code Adoption Process Update from NFSA Update from NFPA Where do we go from here? On your own

This course is offered in conjunction with the OIC Exam This certification is issued by the Building Codes Division (BCD) to demonstrate that a person has passed a division-approved examination covering Oregon laws relating to state building codes. You must obtain an OIC to work in Oregon using the following International Code Council certifications: Building Official Legal Management Building Plan Examiner Commercial Building Inspector Commercial Mechanical Inspector Fire Plans Examiner Residential Building Inspector Residential Mechanical Inspector Pre-registration is required for this course (see special instructions). 4 Wednesday, May 12 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Alarm Systems (Day 2) Instructor: Art Black NFPA 13D; Residential Sprinklers Instructor: Eric McMullen TRACK 3 Dust Explosions Instructor: Jim Everitt TRACK 4 Campus Safety Fire Wise Campus Instructor: Jim Patton LUNCH hrs DINNER-Annual Banquet hrs Social Time hrs Dinner Register, pay your fees, meet old and new friends This 2-day session will present information on VoIP vs. DACTS New Challenges in Fire Alarm Communications; NFPA Update; and Voice Intelligibility and Mass Notification This one-day course will provide a detailed look at the 2007 Edition of NFPA 13D and is intended to provide AHJ s with the tools needed to perform plan reviews and field inspections in a competent and consistent manner. The course will provide background on design alternatives and includes hands-on plan review exercises. This course is approved by Oregon Building Codes Division for continuing education hours. This course covers the basics of what I did not know can kill ; discusses how dust deflagrations work, propagate and methods employed to suppress the chain reaction. This class is the first of a two part series covering the entire spectrum. This course affords fire safety professionals a chance to gain an understanding of successful training methodologies for the college age group, as well as receive tools and resources that they can use to effectively educate students and work further to provide a fire-safe campus environment. 5 Thursday, May 13 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Courtroom Testimony (1-1/2 days) Instructor: Glenn Johnson hours (1/2 day) Toolbox #1 Chief Concerns Instructor: Neal Olson TRACK 3 Code Update Instructor: Eric McMullen & John Caul TRACK hours (1/2 day) Toolbox #8 Training, Education & Professional Development Instructor: Neal Olson LUNCH hrs DINNER Register The courtroom testimony and practical course is intended to meet the task book requirement of the Oregon Fire & Life Safety Competency Recognition Program, NFPA Fire Inspector I & II, and NFPA Fire Investigator. Participants will be required to complete classroom and hands-on practical exercises. (see Track 1, May 8) **Must attend all 12 hours of education This module looks at what it takes to begin the journey of being a chief officer accomplished through discussion of the Chief's toolbox program, leadership roles and qualities, change management, goal setting, and resources. This one-day course will cover the significant changes to the 2009 International Fire Code and the Oregon Amendments to the 2010 Oregon Fire Code. This course satisfies the OSFM Competency Recognition requirement for Oregon Amendments. This module will address training systems including minimum requirements, development of programs, and the essentials of program management. Participants will also be able to address methods of professional development for all personnel in their organization.
