4 CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL This manual provides information necessary for proper use and installation of the TFD-1. This document is organized as follows: Introduction Installation User s Guide Appendix Limited Warranty 1.2 DESCRIPTION Congratulations on the purchase of your TFD-1 environmental control system. This product provides you with full control over temperature resulting in a comfortable environment for your livestock. The TFD-1 offers a number of interesting features such as: Temperature measured in C or F according to user setup Parameters may be locked Alarm relay The TFD-1 operates a 0-10V output and a relay, both used to activate a variable speed ventilation stage. To ensure adequate airflow when temperature is below the main set point, the ventilation stage may be activated continuously at minimum speed. Ventilation stage will shut off completely if temperature is very low and will increase its speed if temperature is above the main set point. The TFD-1 allows full control of the ventilation stage via an easy to follow display panel. All programmable features may be customized to meet your requirements. The TFD-1 keeps you constantly informed by displaying the status of the outputs as well as the ambient room temperature. Safety of livestock is ensured by the continuous control of climate and alarm notification should environmental conditions exceed alarm set points. All programmable settings are maintained indefinitely whether or not the TFD-1 is powered. With the TFD-1 in control of your climate, you are assured of optimal living conditions for your livestock. 11 CHAPTER 3 USER S GUIDE CHAPTER 3 - USER S GUIDE 3.1 FRONT PANEL The TFD-1 front panel shown above features a LED status window and two control dials which are respectively used to select a function and adjust a setting LED Status Window The LED status window features a 3 digit LED readout for the display of temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius and programmable settings. In addition, the LED status window displays the operational status of the variable ventilation stage as well as the alarm status Control Dials The center dial is the Selector dial and is used to select one of the TFD-1 six parameters. The dial located to the right of the Selector dial is the Adjustor dial and is used to adjust the setting of each function. The TFD-1 six parameters are: Parameter Position Name 1 1 Main Set Point 2 2 Modulation Band 3 3 Minimum Ventilation Off 4 10 Low Temperature Alarm 5 11 High Temperature Alarm 6 12 Ambient Room Temperature Any one of these functions is selected by rotating the Selector dial to the corresponding number and associated graphical image printed on the faceplate of the TFD-1. When an adjustable parameter is selected, the LED status window displays a blinking value. Page 11
12 CHAPTER 3 - USER S GUIDE 3.2 PARAMETERS Main Set Point Modulation Band The main set point establishes the target temperature in the building. This value is used as the reference point for other settings. The main set point temperature is adjusted in 0.5 degree increments from a minimum setting of 4.5 C (40.0 F) to a maximum setting of 34.5 C (94.0 F). Adjusting the main set point temperature: rotate the Selector dial to position (1), rotate the Adjustor dial counterclockwise to decrease the temperature setting, clockwise to increase it. The modulation band sets the range of temperature within which ventilation stage will speed up. To obtain the temperature at which ventilation stage will be activated at maximum speed, simply add the value of this parameter to the main set point. The modulation band is adjusted in 0.5 degree increments from a minimum setting of 1.0 C (2.0 F) to a maximum setting of 10.0 C (18.0 F). Adjusting the modulation band: rotate the Selector dial to position (2), rotate the Adjustor dial counterclockwise to decrease the temperature setting, clockwise to increase it. Example: A main set point of 70 F and a modulation band of 5 F are set. When room temperature reaches 75 F, variable ventilation stage will be activated at maximum speed. Page 12
13 CHAPTER 3 - USER S GUIDE Minimum ventilation off MIN OFF This parameter determines the temperature at which minimum ventilation will be deactivated. This value must be subtracted from the main set point to obtain temperature at which minimum ventilation will cease. Minimum ventilation off is adjusted in 0.5 degree increments from a minimum setting of 0.0 C (0.0 F) to a maximum setting of 20.0 C (36.0 F). Adjusting minimum ventilation off temperature: rotate the Selector dial to position (3), rotate the Adjustor dial counterclockwise to decrease the temperature setting, clockwise to increase it. Example: A main set point of 70 F and a minimum ventilation off of 2 F are set. When room temperature decreases to 68 F, minimum ventilation will end Low temperature alarm MIN This parameter establishes the temperature at which a low temperature alarm will be signaled. If the room temperature is equal to or below this set point, the alarm will activate and the alarm LED on the front panel will light up. Low temperature alarm is adjusted in 0.5 degree increments from a minimum setting of 0.5 C (40.0 F) to a maximum setting of 44.5 C (112.0 F). Adjusting the low temperature alarm: rotate the Selector dial to position (10), rotate the Adjustor dial counterclockwise to decrease the temperature setting, clockwise to increase it. Page 13
14 CHAPTER 3 - USER S GUIDE High temperature alarm MAX This parameter establishes the temperature at which a high temperature alarm will be signaled. If the room temperature is equal to or above this set point, the alarm will activate and the alarm LED on the front panel will light up. High temperature alarm is adjusted in 0.5 degree increments from a minimum setting of 0.5 C (40.0 F) to a maximum setting of 44.5 C (112.0 F). Adjusting the high temperature alarm: rotate the Selector dial to position (11), rotate the Adjustor dial counterclockwise to decrease the temperature setting, clockwise to increase it Ambient room temperature display This parameter displays the actual ambient room temperature. The Selector dial should normally be left at this position once the other parameters have been adjusted. The ambient room temperature is displayed to the nearest 0.5 degree from minimum display of 0.5 C (40.0 F) to a maximum display of 44.5 C (112.0 F). If temperature read is below 4.5 C (40.0 F), this parameter will display Lo. If temperature read is above 44.5 C (112.0 F), this parameter will display Hi. Page 14
