Short Course Title: DRIVER/OPERATOR 1A 3. a. Catalog Course Description: This course provides information on fire apparatus preventive maintenance and driving/operating. Topics include: routine tests, inspections, and servicing functions, operate, back, maneuver, and turn a fire apparatus in a variety of conditions and operate all fixed systems and equipment on a fire apparatus. This course is based on the 2014 edition of NFPA 1002 Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications. This course fulfills the requirements for a Class C Firefighter Endorsement. A minimum of 40 hours is required. The CSFM-082A course is a California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) course. Upon successful completion of the course, a CSFM certificate fee of $80 is required for this course to cover the California State Fire Training Certificate of Completion. b. Class Schedule Course Description: This course provides students with information on driver responsibilities, recognized standards, and related laws for fire apparatus. Topics include: basic inspections, documentation, maintenance, troubleshooting fire apparatus, and techniques on driving and positioning the fire apparatus. The CSFM-082A course is a California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) course. Upon successful completion of the course, a CSFM certificate fee of $80 is required for this course to cover the California State Fire Training Certificate of Completion. c. Document Rountine Tests 4. Document Rountine Inspections and Servicing Functions 3. Driving/Operating Apparatus 1. Operate a Fire Apparatus 2. Operate a Fire Apparatus Using Defensive Driving Techniques 3. Back a Fire Apparatus from a Roadway into a Restricted Space 4. Maneuver a Vechicle around Obstructions on a Roadway While Moving Forward and in Reverse 5. Turn a Fire Apparatus 180 Degrees within a Confined Space 6. Maneuver a Fire Apparatus in Areas with Restricted Horizontal and Vertical Clearances 7. Operate All Fixed Systems and Equipment on a Fire Apparatus Lab: (if the "Lab Hours" is greater than zero this is required) Lab -- list laboratory activities, noting linkage to SLOs. Provide detail regarding what the student is expected to do in the lab, not just the topics covered. 1. Three-points of entry and exit of fire apparatus. (SLO: Identify techniques on safe driving and positioning fire apparatus on the fire ground.) Demonstrate three-point entry while entering the fire apparatus Demonstrate three-point entry while exiting the fire apparatus. 2. Pre-trip inspection. (SLO: Conduct a pre-trip inspection of fire apparatus in accordance with Department of Transportation and State of California laws and regulations.) Perform pre-trip inspections of fire apparatus. Perform brake pump-down check. Perform proper mirror adjustment. Perform proper seat adjustment Demonstrate proper documentation of pre-trip inspections. 3. Mandatory driving exercises. (SLO: Demonstrate safe driving of fire apparatus during slow maneuvring exercises.) Demonstrate safe operation of fire apparatus while performing the diminishing clearance exercise in accordance with NFPA 1002 standards. Demonstrate safe operation of fire apparatus while performing the serpentine exercise in accordance with NFPA 1002 standards. Demonstrate safe operation of fire apparatus while performing the three-point turnaround exercise in accordance with NFPA 1002 standards Demonstrate safe operation of fire apparatus while performing the alley dock exercise in accordance with NFPA 1002 standards. 9. Course Student Learning Outcomes: 1. Describe applicable laws, basic inspections, documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting when operating fire 05/01/ of 5

Demonstrate techniques on basic inspections, documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting fire apparatus. c. Demonstrate techniques on driving and positioning fire apparatus. d. Apply driving skills during simulated driving conditions. e. Explain driver s responsibilities, recognized standards, and related laws to fire apparatus. f. Preform a pre-trip inspection of fire apparatus in accordance with Department of Transportation and State of California laws and regulations. 11.
