Introduction Models The ClimaTECH 65 and ClimaTECH 1024 are stand-alone HVAC controllers that can also be used (with a communications bridge) in an AKC 55 supermarket control system. ClimaTECH controllers use Echelon communications with FTT-10 protocol. There are two ClimaTECH models, with capacities and dimensions as follows: ClimaTECH 65 ClimaTECH 1024 Dimensions: 8.25 x 3.22 x 1.76 inches Dimensions: 19.5 x 5.09 x 2.85 inches 5 digital outputs 24 digital outputs 6 universal inputs 10 universal inputs 1 analog output, 0-10 V 1 analog output, 0-10 V Power required: ma Power required: Relay output rating: 0.5 A Up to 12 outputs: ma Up to 24 outputs: 24 1 A Relay output rating: 1.5 A Part numbers are as follows: C ClimaTECH 65 with analog output C ClimaTECH 65 without analog output C ClimaTECH 65 in waterproof enclosure C ClimaTECH 1024 in waterproof enclosure C ClimaTECH 1024 in waterproof enclosure with analog output C ClimaTECH 1024 in metal enclosure C ClimaTECH 1024 in metal enclosure with analog output Because Echelon communications to and from an AKC 55 use the TP78 protocol, ClimaTECH controllers in an AKC 55 I/O network require that a TP78 to FTT-10 bridge be installed on one of the main I/O runs from the AKC 55. Connect the bridge as you would any other node on an I/O run. The bridge need not be connected directly to AKC 55 I/O terminals. Cabling requirements For TP78 cabling from the 3AKC 55 to the bridge, use 2-conductor 18 AWG shielded

. twisted stranded cable. Connect theshield at the AKC 55 only. For FTT-10 cabling from the bridge to and between the ClimaTECH controllers, use 2-conductor 16 AWG unshielded twisted stranded cable (plenum, Belden 85102; nonplenum: Belden 8471). Network layout Downstream from the bridge, a network of ClimaTECH controllers can be connected in several ways. In following the examples that follow, be sure to observe the termination requirements. Omission or improper placement of termination resistors will result in faulty network communications. Maximum total length of network cabling is 1600 feet. 4

The sections of this manual that follow will cover mounting and wiring of the ClimaTECH 65 and ClimaTECH 1024 controllers individually. A final section will provide information on configuring the AKC 55 for use with these controllers. 5

ClimaTECH 65 Mounting Mount the unit on a flat surface using 2 appropriate screws. Network connections The ClimaTECH 65 uses Echelon communications in an FTT-10 network. Other ClimaTECH or FTT-10 devices can be connected in daisy-chain fashion ddirectly to the ClimaTECH 65 s network terminals (located below the sensor power terminals on the left side of the controller. The AKC 55 I/O network uses Echelong communications in a TP-78 network. To connect the ClimaTECH 65 to the AKC 55 I/O network, an FTT-10 to TP-78 bridge is required. Connect the bridge according to the instructions received with it. Use 2-conductor 16AWG unshielded twisted pair cable (Belden #85102or equivalent) for plenum applications; for non-plenum applications, use Belden #8471 or equivalent. Sensor connections 6

Humidity sensor Connection Opitonal Analog Output Connection The controller s sensor inputs will accept TP-1 and TP-2 temperature sensors, relative humidity sensors, and will sense dry contact closures. Connect the sensors on the left side of the controller at the terminals indicated on the label, as shown in the next drawing. Note, in the drawing above, that excitation voltage for a humidity sensor is taken directly frm the +12 Vdc supply terminal. If the analog output option is present, connections are made on the right side of the controller where indicated by the label. Relay output connections 1.) Turn OFF power to the HVAC control circuit for the devices to be connected to the ClimaTECH controller. 2.) Break the 24 Vac supply to the control circuit and connect it to the Relay Com terminal on the ClimaTECH controller. 3.) One by one, connect the HVAC devices control circuits to the Relay Out terminals on the ClimaTECH controller. 4.) Connect 24 Vac to the ClimaTECH s power terminals. 5.) Restore power to the HVAC control circuit. 6.) Proceed with programming of the AKC 55 as described in Section 2. 7

ClimaTECH 1024 Mounting Mount the unit on a flat surface using 2 appropriate screws. Network connections The ClimaTECH 1024 uses Echelon communications in an FTT-10 network. Other ClimaTECH or FTT-10 devices can be connected in daisy-chain fashion ddirectly to the ClimaTECH 1024 s network terminals (a connector located at the left of the controller as indicated in the drawing below. S 8

Sensor connections Humidity sensor Connection Opitonal Analog Output Connection The controller s sensor inputs will accept TP-1 and TP-2 temperature sensors, relative humidity sensors, and will sense dry contact closures. Connect the sensors to the terminals at the bottom of the lower circuit board as shown in the drawing above. Note, in the drawing above, that excitation voltage for a humidity sensor is taken directly frm the +12 Vdc supply terminal (second from the right, labeled on the printed circuit board). If the analog output option is present, connections are made to terminals on the daughterboasrd mounted above the main (lower) printed circuit board on the right side of the controller, as shown in the drawing on the next page. 9
