We also finished checking all the Fire Reports for the month of August and they will be uploaded to the State and Federal Identities this week : Lts. Tate, Huggins, Ponder, Ellis, Miller and Milner attended the Incident Safety Officer course taught by the Georgia Fire Academy at the Welcome Center in Griffin : Chief Polk attended the Make Griffin Spalding Better Together planning meeting : Squad 7 placed on standby at HQ due to low number of G.F.D. personnel attending classes : Volunteer Firefighter Daniel Adams rode along with Engine : The fire department hosted Larry Rothermel of GEBCORP to have an overview of the current retirement plan and to meet individually with the personnel : Melissa Jackson and Megan Lummus attended United Way Pacesetter meeting at Caterpillar : Fire Safety House Detail at Volunteer Park for Opening Day of Football : Lt. Huggins, Chief West, F/F Chastain, and Melissa Jackson went to Skipstone Academy participated in EMA boat training : After a laundry room fire at 133 Rover Road, Battalion 1 dropped off 2 smoke detectors : Community Response Certification Training Week 1 Class Introduction to the Spalding County Office of Homeland Security held at Senior Center from 6 p.m. 8 p.m : Chief West and Chief Polk attended the Make Griffin Spalding Better together planning meeting : Chief West and Chief Polk attended the CERT administrative council meeting : Lt. Rocky White attended an ISO course explaining the newest schedule for the evaluation process at the joint Georgia State Firefighters and Chief Conference in Macon : Chief Jones, Chief Slaughter, Lt. Huggins, Lt. Ellis, Lt. Miller, Lt. Milner, James Odom attended the Volunteer Firefighter Insurance Company Driver Training - Train the Trainer course at the joint Georgia State Firefighter and Chiefs conference in Macon : F/F Zavario Johnson taught the Week 2 CERT Class: Community Emergency Response Team at the Senior Center from 6 p.m. 8 p.m : Melissa Jackson attended weekly staff meeting for United Way Employee Pledge Card distribution. Dense Quick and a representative from the Salvation Army spoke about services United Way is able to provide through community donations : Engine 5, Engine 3, and HQ crew trained over salvage, overhaul, and reverse lay : Attended at presentation by Code Red, which offers a call back system for communities used especially during disasters. Huggins trained EMA rescue team members on UTV protocols and rope operations : Attended a presentation by Everbridge, which offers a call back system for communities used especially during disasters : Attended a presentation by First Call, which offers a call back system for communities used especially during disasters : Assisted the Council on Aging with evaluating a tornado drill at the facility : 10 th Annual Firefighters for Kids Charity Golf Tournament held at Morgan Dairy : Engine 1 Detail at First Baptist Church for Community Day : Chief Clark and Chief Polk met with Dan and Barbara Denda, recent fire victims, at a home they will be renting in Suncity (826 Dusty Gap). Assisted with education on checking smoke detectors and installed 2 additional smoke detectors : Assisted the Council on Aging with evaluating a tornado drill at the facility : : Melissa Jackson and Megan Lummus attended United Way Pacesetter meeting at Caterpillar : Engine 6, Lt. 6 : Attended the last pre planning meeting for the upcoming Point of Distribution drill : Attended the Make Griffin Spalding Better Together conference planning meeting : Griffin Fire used burn building : Hosted Loudon Communications at Norton station to update all public safety radios : Chief Clark and Polk went and met with several residents (Davis Home) of Sun City at 822 Dusky Gap Court to check smoke detectors and offer recommendations from the NFPA on detector locations and fire extinguisher locations : Chief Clark and Polk went to 813 Dusky Gap Court to check smoke detectors : Battalion 1 and Engine 2 went to Spalding High School for the Bon Fire Detail : Hosted the Pipeline Emergencies class from the Georgia Fire Academy : Worked with Randy King of Public Works for signage for the upcoming flu shot exercise : Fire Safety House Detail at Anne Street Elementary School for Fall Festival : Engine 1 went to Volunteer Park for Medical Detail : Spalding County Fire Department and Griffin Fire Department used ladder trucks to raise the American Flag at Carver Road/Williamson Road for The Southside Riders Association 16 th Annual Pulling of the Tabs and Promoting Ronald McDonald House Charities of West Georgia, Inc. in Columbus, Georgia : Fire Safety House Detail for Public Safety Appreciation Day Sponsored by Youth of VFW : Engine 2, Engine 6, and Squad 3 came to HQ for training over salvage covers and forward lay : Chief Polk and Lt. Huggins assisted Ann Morgan of 203 Westmoreland Drive with installing batteries and placing smoke detectors in already installed brackets : Spalding County Fire and Office of Homeland Security assisted with the Flu Shot / Point of Distribution exercise at the Spalding County Health Department : Sheriff s Department used back pad for training.
