WORKING WITH MEP ELEMENTS Smart Sprinklers extension Smart Sprinklers application for Autodesk Revit MEP......allows designers to quickly distribute sprinklers in a model with a real time interference checking....automatically routes sprinklers through pipes to the distribution pipes. Customizable routing rules allow you to connect sprinklers directly to fittings with or without sprinkler heads....automatically pre-calculates diameters for range and distribution pipes by different standards (ISO, AS, NFPA, etc)....values of default parameters for sprinkler planning, pipe sizing and pipe routing types, such as Sprinkler-to-Range Pipe, Range Pipe-to-Distribution Pipe, are based on ISO, AS, NFPA, etc. standards....default parameters are easily customizable by building and saving different routing and sizing configurations.
Smart Sprinklers - powerful Autodesk Revit MEP solution for sprinklers' location planning in the BIM model and automation of pipe routing from sprinklers to distribution pipes.
Smart Sprinklers has an E-Help where users can find a sample project and explore it:
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group inserts virtual group with created elements into a space with different boundaries. Virtual group elements are used for better review and analysis of position for future sprinklers.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Steps to insert the virtual group: 1. Select space or element in the space. Boundaries and parameters of selected space will be used; 2. Select a wall for detecting X direction. Note: Virtual Group can t be copied or mirrored! Placement parameters can be locked
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Length (X axis) maximum length of X axis in a room/space; Width (Y axis) maximum length of Y axis in room/space; Select Base Wall for X axis select wall from the project to detect another X axis. Selected wall
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Element Placement Elevation - elevation where virtual group elements will be inserted. When inserting the first time, the element will be placed on the top of the room/space. Ceiling Virtual group element It is not necessary to put virtual group element exactly on the face of a ceiling. It will not affect sprinkler s location if the host is specified. Note: Element Placement Elevation should be defined prior the use of other functions to ensure proper positioning of sprinklers in rooms/spaces. Virtual group element will be inserted with elevation of 2500mm if the space upper limit is higher.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Real Number of Elements real number of elements that will be inserted into current room/space in accordance with its shape. Number in X axis, Number in Y axis number of virtual group elements in X and Y axes.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Distance X, Distance Y distance between virtual group elements in X and Y axes. These values will be used when Distribute by Spacing parameter is selected; Distribute by Spacing distribute preselected number of virtual group elements by space using Distance X and Distance Y parameter values:
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Calculate Maximum in X and Y direction calculates maximum amount of virtual group elements that is needed in X and Y axes for current space.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Offset from Original in X/Y Axes virtual group will be moved with offset from the beginning in X or Y Axis. If these values are zero, virtual group elements will be centered in the room/space. Users can check distances between the first and last virtual group elements in the space in Calculated Data table.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Factor of Distances defines multiple of distances. For example, if Factor of Distances is set to 600, then distances between virtual group elements will be rounded to the nearest number that is a multiple of 600.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Minimum Distance from Wall defines minimum distance between the elements and the walls in a space in accordance with your own configuration of distribution of virtual group elements.
Insert Position Symbol as Virtual Group Mirror X, Mirror Y mirrors virtual group in X and Y axes.
Insert Sprinklers to Position Symbols Inserts selected sprinkler type to the selected virtual group in a project.
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Upright/Pendant Sprinklers by double clicking on a picture select pipe routing type for upright/pendant sprinklers:
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Configuration for pipe routing can be saved under user defined name for future use. Configuration can be saved, renamed, or deleted.
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Elevation of upright range pipe elevation of upright pipe from level:
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Add separate sprinklers if distance is less than adds separate pipes to sprinklers if distance between the main row and sprinklers is less than entered value.
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Connection to tap or fitting with pipe of length with this option ticked, you can connect sprinklers directly to taps or fittings (e.g. BlazeMaster fittings). Filling the parameter Pipe length predefines any sprinkler pipe length. On Off Note: Connection type depends on a chosen range pipe type, which is discussed further. On + Pipe length
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Note: You can define your own standards by creating folder with standard name and modifying text files inside that folders. Standard, Standard: range diameters, and Standard: distribution pipes diameters - allow you to choose from predefined overall system, range pipe diameter and distribution pipe diameter standards. These standards define rules for system calculations for pipe diameter, maximum possible sprinklers on range pipe with one diameter, etc.
Own standard preparation Please find the template standards on your computer: Open file Change needed 1st column Range pipe description 2nd column Layout position 3rd column connection position 4th column diameter of range pipe 5th column maximum number of fed sprinklers
Own standard preparation Pre-Calculate pipe diameter by tables in accordance with number of sprinklers connected in a row The first column of Smart Sprinklers text table refers to Range pipe description: 2 Range at remote end of all distribution pipes last 2 ranges 3 Last 3 ranges 1 Last range -1 All other range pipes Second column of Smart Sprinkler text table refers to Layout position: 2 2-end layouts 3 3-end layouts -1 All other layouts Third column of Smart Sprinklers text table refers to connection position: Side for side connection Center for center connections Fourth column of Smart Sprinklers text table refers to Diameters of range pipes; Fifth column of Smart Sprinklers text table refers to maximum number of fed sprinklers Note: Change range pipe descriptions, layout positions, connection positions, diameters and number of sprinklers to create your own standard
Own standard preparation Pre-calculate constant diameters of range pipes in consideration of total number of sprinklers on a range The differences between simple text file for range pipe Precalculation and the file that will be used for constant diameters are: No need to describe number of Last ranges. Always use -1 No need to describe Layout position. Always use -1 Mandatory to add last line : -1,-1,All,-1,-1
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Sprinkler head adaptor, Range pipe type, Add cap to range pipe and Distribution pipe type let you choose what family type to use for your sprinkler system. You can choose from family types loaded in project. Sprinkler pipe diameter lets you choose diameter of the pipe which connects sprinkler to range pipe. Note: Welded or mechanical connection can be used choosing pipe types. Note: Sprinkler pipe can only be connected with fittings. No welded connection possible.
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Minimal distances HO, VO, etc. (distance/sprinkler pipe diameter defines coefficient of the number of pipe diameters you can fit between pipes, e.g., in the figure shown, you have VO/Diameter = Minimal distances HO, VO, etc. (distance/sprinkler pipe diameter) 120/33=3,63 HO/Diameter = Minimal distances HO, VO, etc. (distance/sprinkler pipe diameter) 98/33=2,96 In this case, it could be less than 3 because there s some space left, but for project consistency it let s to choose 3.
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Range pipe split distance s measuring type defines whether pipe is split by a fixed distance or by a coefficient. Coefficient range from 0 to 1 and defines a multiplier for splitting. OR
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Insert range pipe sets configuration for Pendant and Upright sprinkler pipe connection. You can choose from three connection types.
Sprinkler Pipe Routing Configuration (SPRC) Maximal distance between pendant and upright rows for use of common range pipe sets distance Lengthen range pipe from the extreme sprinkler lengthens pipe from last sprinkler on range and defines the length. pendant >300 upright <=300
Connect Sprinklers to Distribution Pipe After you set up sprinkler pipe routing configuration, press OK and: Workflow 1. Select one sprinkler and distribution pipe to generate the whole system. Workflow 2. Select more than one sprinkler and distribution pipe to manually choose which sprinklers you want to include into a system.
Connect Sprinklers to Range Pipes (Current SPRC) Creates pipes from selected sprinklers in a space to range pipe using current configuration. Pipes will be created on the nearest range pipe. First select a sprinkler, and then a range pipe:
Connect Sprinklers to Selected Pipes (Current SPRC) Creates pipes from selected sprinklers in a space to range pipe using current configuration. Pipes will be created on the nearest project pipe. First select a range pipe in any place and then a sprinkler:
Insert Fittings Insert Fittings splits selected pipe and insert fittings on the connections. Select a pipe: Pipe is splitted and fittings are inserted:
Show Hierarchical List of System Show Hierarchical List of System creates sprinkler system tree to easily navigate and verify sprinkler system and to find design points in sprinkler system.
