NOTE MAKE SURE THAT EACH RS-485 TYPE SENSOR IS GIVEN A UNIQUE ADDRESS ON ITS ADDRESS JUMPERS, OR THE TGM8 MONITOR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH IT. 2-3
TGM8 Section 2 Setup & Calibration Setup & Calibration Active Points: The number of active scanning points (same as number of remote sensors) can be set by the first three jumpers (H1-1, H1-2, H1-3). The jumpers are binary encoded. If no jumpers are inserted, then only one point (address 1) is scanned. To scan more points, insert jumpers such that the decimal equivalent of the binary code on H1-1, H1-2 and H1-3 plus one, equals the number of points to be scanned. (Refer to Figure 3, Page 5-3). Warning & Alarm Delays: There is a fixed delay of five minutes available for both warning and alarm. This feature is selected with jumper H1-5. When the jumper is out, there is no delay on the warning and alarm relays. When the jumper is inserted, a fixed fiveminute delay is imposed on the warning and alarm. In the case of the warning, this delay is an OFF delay meaning that the warning relay(s) will remain activated for five minutes after the warning condition has been diminished. In the case of the alarm, this delay is an ON delay, meaning that it takes five minutes for the alarm relay (and audible device) to activate after the first alarm condition occurs. (Refer to Figure 3, Page 5-3). Alarm Latch: Normally, all relays return to their inactive state once their condition has cleared. The alarm relay can be made to latch in the activated position, even after all alarms have cleared. By inserting jumper H1-9, the alarm relay will remain latched after all alarms clear until the reset button is pressed. (Refer to Figure 3, Page 5-3). NOTE Pressing the reset button during an alarm condition does not affect the latching. The reset button must be pressed after the alarm condition has cleared in order to de-activate the alarm relay. Display Mode: The display of the TGM8 is auto-ranging for all RS-485 type serial sensors. The display mode jumpers have no effect on any RS-485 type sensors. The display mode jumpers take effect only if analog sensor inputs are used. The incoming analog signals are scaled to the full scale setting of the display mode jumpers. There are two sets of display ranges available: Range A and Range B. Jumper H1-4 selects which display range is active. If jumper H1-4 is OUT, Range A is selected; if jumper H1-4 is IN, Range B is selected. The following table shows the various jumper positions for the different display modes: 2-4
TGM8 Section 2 Setup & Calibration Range A: Full Scale H2-2 H out out 100 out in 10.0 in out 10.0/100* in in Range B: To select the solid-on audible alarm mode, jumper H1-6 must be inserted. To select the variable-on audible alarm mode, jumper H1-6 must be removed (Refer to Figure 3). In both modes, pressing the reset button will silence the audible alarm, but will not have any effect on the alarm LED on the front panel or the alarm relay. Full Scale H2-2 H out out 500 out in 250 in out 75 in in * This is a special Display Range that displays the first four channels (1-4) as ppm and the second four channels (5-8) as ppm. This is useful for NO 2 / CO applications. Audible Alarm Device: The TGM8 has two audible alarm modes. The first is a solid-on mode that sounds the audible device continuously while the TGM8 is in an alarm state. The second is a variable-on mode that sounds the audible device in an eight second interval pulsed fashion. The time between pulses is fixed, but the time of the audible alarm is determined by the amount that the alarm sensor is exceeding the alarm setpoint. For example, if the setpoint is at 50% and an alarm comes in at 55%, the audible alarm would give short beeps every eight seconds. As the alarm level increases from 55% to 100%, the beeps become longer in duration until a solid tone appears at 100%. 2-5

TGM8 Section 3 General Operation Section 3 General Operation Scanning: The TGM8 will scan each active point in sequence, starting with point one. It will scan up to the last active point and then repeat from point one. As each point is scanned, the point number and the sensor input value are displayed for two seconds. Auto-Ranging: The TGM8 automatically detects the type of sensor connected on an RS-485 bus and determines its full scale value. All setpoints and the display are adjusted accordingly to match the various sensors full scale levels. If an analog sensor is connected, the display must be manually selected for the appropriate sensor full scale level using the display mode jumpers (Refer to Section 2 Display Mode on page 2-4). Warning and Alarm: The alarm function on the TGM8 is common to all points. Each point has individual warning relays and discrete LED s for Sensor OK, Warning, and Alarm. All points ar etied to a common alarm relay. The audible alarm will sound every time a new alarm occurs. It may be silenced by pressing the reset button on the front door of the monitor. LED for that point will turn on and after a delay defined by jumper H1-5, the relay will activate. At the same time the relay activates, the audible alarm will sound. The audible alarm may be silenced by pressing the reset button. If all active points drop below the alarm setpoint, the alarm will silence (if not silenced already by reset button) and the alarm level relay will de-activate if jumper H1-9 is not inserted. If jumper H1-9 is inserted for latching function, then the alarm relay will not de-activate automatically once all active points drop below the alarm setpoint. The relay will only deactivate once the reset button is pressed. Sensor Failure: If the TGM8 loses communications with one or more sensors, or if one or more sensors fail, that sensor OK LED will turn off and the sensor fail relay will activate. If an analog sensor is used and the input is between 1 ma and 3 ma, the sensor OK LED will turn off and the sensor fail relay will activate. Any analog input below 1 ma causes the TGM8 to ignore that analog input and treat that sensor as an RS-485 type sensor. If the level of any or more of the active points exceed(s) the warning setpoint, the warning LED for that point will turn on and the warning relay for that point will activate. If all active points drop below the warning setpoint, the warning LED will turn off and after a delay defined by jumper H1-5, the relay will return to its inactive state. If the level of any or more of the active points exceed(s) the alarm setpoint, the alarm level 3-1
