1 NURSE CALL SMARTCARE NURSE CALL SOLUTION Architectural Specifications Part 1 General SECTION NURSE CALL SYSTEM 1.0 Summary 1.1 This section includes nurse call system and requirements for system components including, but not limited to the following: Host Controller and Expansion Board Nurse Consoles Dome/Zone Lights Room Devices Power Supplies Remote Notification Equipment Software 2.0 Scope of Work 2.1 Provide labor, materials, equipment, and services to provide a complete installation and related work as required in the Contract Documents. 2.2 SmartCare Nurse Call Solution is provided by Rath Communications 3.0 Submittals 3.1 Provide submittal documentation for every system component including, but not limited to: Equipment List Product Literature Riser wiring diagrams and shop drawings Wiring diagram showing typical termination per device including: Host Controller and Power Supplies, Nurse Consoles, Dome/Zone Lights, Room Devices, and Remote Notification Equipment System Operation Manual (User Manual) 4.0 Qualifications 4.1 The nurse call system equipment furnished under this specification shall be of one manufacturer and shall be equal to the SmartCare Nurse Call Solution that is manufactured by Rath Communications. The specific model numbers are intended to designate devices and quality of design, as well as exact operating features required. All equipment including wire shall be designed exactly as indicated by the manufacturer s installation instructions and shall include technical specifications. 4.2 User manuals shall be submitted to the nursing and maintenance staff upon completion of installation. If requested, installing and/or servicing contractor shall provide operating instructions on the use of the system.

2 5.0 System Listings and Agency Approvals 5.1 The nurse call system described in this section must carry a complete and current Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing, in conformance of UL standard 1069 Edition 7 and UL It must be listed as a complete system, including all system components, and proof of such listings shall be made by submitting documentation including model numbers and copies of UL listing cards. 5.2 Non-UL listed systems interconnected with the nurse call system shall have the interconnection isolated in accordance with UL 1069 and shall not defeat the UL 1069 compliance. 5.3 All wiring and equipment associated with the UL listed nurse call system shall be electrically supervised in accordance with UL 1069 and UL The system shall meet or exceed the minimum standards issued by ANSI, TIA, and EIA. All of the installation shall meet the provisions of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, and other applicable codes. 6.0 Alternate System Proposals 6.1 Any proposed alternate equipment shall conform to all of the standards and operating characteristics listed herein. In order to qualify as an alternate manufacture the following data shall be provided to the Architect and/or Engineer at least (10) days prior to the bid due date A written statement from the manufacturer of the substituted equipment stating that the equipment is in fact an equal system and conforms to the electrical and functional performance of the SmartCare Nurse Call Solution Supply manufacturer s name, model numbers, and (3) copies of the factory specification sheets of each alternate item submitted. All variations shall be clearly indicated UL 1069 and UL 2560 listing proof for all nurse call components must be provided. 7.0 General Requirements 7.1 The contractor shall furnish and install all equipment, accessories, and cabling in accordance with specifications and applicable drawings provided by the manufacture or authorized dealer. PART 2 SYSTEM DETAILS 1.0 System Architecture 1.1 The SmartCare Nurse Call Solution utilizes proprietary SmartLoop Power Technology for communication and power of the nurse call devices. This system architecture allows for linear wiring (daisy-chain) from Host Controller to field Smart Devices. The cabling must be 24 AWG minimum in accordance with UL 1069 and meet all manufacturer s requirements. The cabling connections must be RJ45 and terminated using a T568B pin-out. 2.0 System Supervision 2.1 A catastrophic system failure at the Host Controller shall annunciate with both an audible and visual indication at the System Failure Device. Location to be approved by the AHJ. 2.2 Smart Dome nodes shall supervise the devices connected to them and detect both open and short conditions.

3 2.3 Call Cords connected to Bedside Stations shall be supervised for both connection to the station and cord damage. Disconnection of the call cord from the Bedside Station shall result in a cord out alarm at all designated alert devices. 3.0 System Event Notification 3.1 Calls for assistance within a room shall be visually annunciated using 3 RBG LEDs (multicolored) on the Smart Dome Light. The LED, color of LED, and flash rate can be configured within the SmartCare software. 3.2 Calls for assistance within a zone or wing shall be audibly and visually annunciated using a sounder and 3 RBG LEDs (multi-colored) on the Zone Light. The LED, color of LED, and flash rate can be configured within the SmartCare software. The LEDs are separated with dividers to distinguish which zone the call is active on. The sounder type is programmable. 3.3 The system must support a check-in feature as part of the system. Check-in times are programmable per the request of the facility. 3.4 The system shall support multiple Nurse Consoles throughout the facility. The RBG LED for each calling location is fully programmable for color, flash rate and tone. The highest priority calls will annunciate if multiple calls are in progress in the same calling location. 3.5 All patient, staff, and emergency calls must annunciate on one or more of the system s Nurse Consoles. 3.6 The system shall support multiple Duty Stations for remote staff areas. 3.7 The system shall support multiple Staff Stations for remote call annunciation as well as staff generated calls. 3.8 System shall be equipped with a single connection to a pocket paging system if requested by facility. PART 3 PRODUCTS 1.0 General Product Qualifications 1.1 The nurse call system components must be fully programmable and addressable for system supervision. 1.2 All system components (excluding: Host Controller, Expansion Boards, Nurse Consoles, and power supplies) shall have three plate finish options; Stainless Steel, white GE LEXON, and ivory GE LEXON. 1.3 All devices shall connect to system via RJ45 connection. 1.4 All devices shall fit to standard gang sizes (excluding: Host Controller, Expansion Boards, power supplies, and Nurse Console). 1.5 Every component on the system shall be labeled with UL stickers including model numbers. 2.0 Host Controller 2.1 The nurse call system shall be designed to have one or more UL1069 and UL 2560 listed LED nurse consoles. The system shall communicate via a data bus with addressable room dome lights which receive and process calls from patient, emergency, and staff stations. 2.2 The nurse call system s Nurse Console shall have three panel sizes available; 28, 56, and 112 zone. Each zone shall have a dedicated RBG LED. 2.3 The nurse call system s Host Controller shall be micro-processor based and fully programmable. It shall be powered up using a 24vdc connection via screw terminals.

4 2.4 The Host Controller shall be housed in a powder coated steel enclosure with a hinged latching door. The enclosure shall be vertical surface mounted. 2.5 The date/time on the system shall be adjustable by a user interface. 2.6 Call logging software shall be downloadable and exportable for report generation. 2.7 Host Controller must be programmable through a PC via Ethernet port. 2.8 There shall be a complete system failure output to a remote system fault indicator. Location determined by AHJ. 2.9 There shall be a fault output that activates a remote fault indicator when there are any faults on the system. The remote indicator must have both audible and visual indication There shall be 4 network ports for connecting to remote nurse call devices. These connect via SmartLoop Power Technology to remote stations There shall be an RS232 connection for a pocket paging system to be easily connected to the Host Controller. 3.0 Expansion Board 3.1 The nurse call system Expansion Board shall be micro-processor based. It shall be powered up using a 24vdc connection via screw terminals. 3.2 The Expansion Board shall be housed in a powder coated steel enclosure with a hinged latching door. The enclosure shall be wall surface mounted. 3.3 There shall be a complete system failure output to a sounder and LED. 3.4 There shall be a fault output that tones and lights up a remote sounder when there are any faults on the system. 3.5 There shall be 4 network ports for connecting to remote nurse call devices. These connect via SmartLoop Power Technology to remote stations. 4.0 Nurse Console 4.1 The nurse call system shall be designed to have one or more UL1069 and UL 2560 listed LED nurse consoles. 4.2 The nurse call system s Nurse Console shall have three panel sizes available; 28, 56, and 112 zones. Each zone shall have a dedicated RBG LED. 4.3 The Nurse Console shall be capable of being wall mounted or desk mounted. The construction must be powder coated steel in white or ivory. 4.4 The Nurse Console shall have a customizable template for names and/or room numbers to identify the calling locations. 4.5 There shall be a built in adjustable sounder with a three-position switch for high, low and mute tone. The tone silence must be momentary and re-activate automatically with another call. 4.6 The Nurse Console shall have a power indicator LED. 4.7 The Nurse Console shall have a System Power Loss LED and sounder for power supervision. 5.0 Duty Station 5.1 Shall be a wall mounted, three-gang, fully programmable, and addressable device that provides audible and visual annunciation. 5.2 The Duty Station sounder volume shall have the capability of being adjusted from high, low, and momentarily mute via a three-position toggle switch. 5.3 Shall include three RBG LEDs that illuminate three divided sections for designation of calling location and different flash rates, colors, and tone are programmable for priority.

5 6.0 Staff Station 6.1 Shall be a wall mounted, four-gang, fully programmable and addressable device that provides audible and visual annunciation. 6.2 The Staff Station sounder shall have the capability of being adjusted from high, low, and momentarily mute via a three-position toggle switch. 6.3 Shall include three RBG LEDs that illuminate three divided sections for designation of calling location and flash rate, color, and tone are programmable for priority. 6.4 The Staff Station shall have a red 1 ½ mushroom style push button. The button must operate as push to call and twist to cancel. 6.5 Shall have a CALL PLACED LED for call verification. 7.0 Smart Dome Light 7.1 Shall be a wall or ceiling mounted, two-gang, fully programmable and addressable device that provides visual annunciation. 7.2 Shall include three RBG LEDs that illuminate three divided sections for designation of calling location and flash rate and color are programmable for priority. 7.3 Shall have a white plastic cover over LEDs to give a nice distinctive light. The light must be designed so that it s visible from down the hallway or corridor. 7.4 Lights shall be LED. Incandescent type not acceptable. 8.0 Smart Zone Light 8.1 Shall be wall or ceiling mounted, three gang, fully programmable and addressable device that provides audible and visual annunciation. 8.2 Shall include three RBG LEDs that illuminate three divided sections for designation of calling location and flash rate, color, and tone are programmable for priority. 8.3 Shall have a white plastic cover over LEDs to give a nice distinctive light. The light must be designed so that it s visible from down the hallway or corridor. 8.4 Lights shall be LED. Incandescent type not acceptable. 9.0 Bedside Station 9.1 Shall be a wall mounted, single or double gang, fully programmable and addressable device. 9.2 Shall have both single and dual bedside options with one or two ¼ jacks for call cords. Each jack (bed) must be independently identifiable on the system. 9.3 Shall include a CALL PLACED LED per ¼ jack. 9.4 Shall have a cancel button per ¼ jack. 9.5 The Bedside Stations must have a Cord Out notification that is identified as an emergency call on the system. This alert must be different than that of a regular bedside call Pull String Station 10.1 Shall be a wall mounted, single gang, fully programmable and addressable device Shall be equipped with a 6 polyester pull string so device can be activated from the floor Shall include a CALL PLACED LED Shall use an UP (off) and DOWN (ON) slide switch for activation and cancelling of calls Shall be available with an anti-microbial pull string The Pull String Station must have a water-resistant option for use in a bath or shower.

6 11.0 Panic Button Station 11.1 Shall be a wall mounted, single gang, fully programmable and addressable device Shall have a red 1 ½ mushroom style push button. The button must operate as push to call and twist to cancel Shall include a CALL PLACED LED Code Blue Station 12.1 Shall be a wall mounted, single gang, fully programmable and addressable device Shall have a blue 1 mushroom style push button. The button must operate as push to call and push to cancel. A 5 second delay to cancel will prevent double push no calls Shall include a CALL PLACED LED Check-In Station 13.1 Shall be a wall mounted, single gang, fully programmable and addressable device Shall have a black 1/2 momentary push button Shall include a CALL PLACED LED The Check-In Station shall be part of a fully programmable Check-In feature on the SmartCare software and operate as follows: There must be a customizable 2-hour Check-In window assigned by the facility When the Check-In button is pressed within the Check-In window the device will automatically reset itself. No further action is required by resident or staff If the button is not pressed within the Check-In window it will alert the staff on any of the system notification devices chosen by the facility. The alert is cleared by pressing the Check-In button Shall be capable of being de-activated for rooms that aren t occupied. De-activating the Check-In Station shall be accomplished by pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds. The LED will blink rapidly three times to assure that it has been de-activated. Re-activation is accomplished by repeating the same motion (hold button for 10 seconds) Remote Sounder Station 14.1 Shall be a wall mounted, single gang, fully programmable and addressable device Shall have a sounder with a three-position toggle switch for tone adjustments Device shall be used when a sounder is added to any annunciation device.
