3 1 About this instruction manual 1.1 Structure of warning About this instruction manual This instruction manual is part of the product. Read this manual before using the product. Keep this manual during the entire service life of the product and always have it readily available for reference. Always hand this manual over to future owners or users of the product. 4 Safety 2 Safety 2.1 Intended use The alarm unit for low gas level may only be used together with a suitable pressure gauge with contacts. It may only be used to indicate and transmit the pressure status of gas-filled cylinders, for example in order to signal the fact that a gas cylinder is about to be empty. Any use other than the application explicitly permitted in this instruction manual is not permitted. 2.2 Predictable incorrect application The low gas supply alarm must never be used in the following cases: Hazardous area (Ex) If the device is operated in hazardous areas, sparks may cause deflagrations, fires or explosions. Damp, humid, wet rooms 2.3 Safe handling This device represents state-of-the-art technology and is made according to the pertinent safety regulations. Each device is subjected to a function and safety test prior to shipping. Operate the device only when it is in perfect condition. Always observe the operating instructions, all pertinent local and national directives and guidelines as well as the applicable safety regulations and directives concerning the prevention of accidents. The alarm unit for low gas level features an intrinsically safe control current circuit. The intrinsically safe circuit and the pressure gauge with contacts to be connected may be operated in hazardous areas zone 1 and 2. The alarm unit for low gas level itself must not be operated in hazardous areas. 5 Safety WARNING Severe burns or death caused by mains voltage (AC 230 V, 50 Hz) in the control unit. Do not expose the control unit to water. Interrupt the mains voltage supply before opening the control unit or before performing maintenance and cleaning work and make sure it cannot be switched on by accident. Do not tamper with the control unit in any way whatsoever. 2.4 Staff qualification The product may only be mounted, commissioned, operated, maintained, shut down and disposed of by qualified, specially trained staff. Electrical work may only be performed by trained electricians and in compliance with all applicable local and national directives. 2.5 Modifications to the product Changes or modifications made to the product by unauthorised persons may lead to malfunctions and are prohibited for safety reasons. 2.6 Usage of spare parts and accessories Usage of unsuitable spare parts and accessories may cause damage to the product. Use only genuine spare parts and accessories of the manufacturer (refer to chapter 11, page 16). 2.7 Liability information The manufacturer shall not be liable in any form whatsoever for direct or consequential damage resulting from failure to observe the technical instructions, guidelines and recommendations. The manufacturer or the sales company shall not be liable for costs or damages incurred by the user or by third parties in the usage or application of this device, in particular in case of improper use of the device, misuse or malfunction of the connection, malfunction of the device or of connected devices. The manufacturer or the sales company shall not be liable for damage whatsoever resulting from any use other than the use explicitly permitted in this instruction manual. 6 Product description 3 Product description The alarm unit for low gas level combines alarm LED, operation LED, buzzer as well as acknowledge button and test button in a compact unit. The impact-resistant plastic housing contains display elements and controls as well as all electronic components for evaluating the input signal and converting it into a digital output signal. a b c d e Green pilot lamp Test button Red alarm lamp Acknowledge button Without function Fig. 2: Control unit The green lamp indicates when the device is ready for operation. If an alarm signal is received, this activates the red alarm lamp and the buzzer. The buzzer signal can be muted with the Acknowledge button. For safety reasons, the muted buzzer sound and the alarm lamp remain on for as long as the alarm is active. By pressing the Test button, you can simulate an alarm. The alarm is triggered by an interruption of the current circuit of the pressure gauge with contacts. An alarm is also triggered in the case of a cable break. The alarm signal is generated by a pressure gauge with a magnetic spring contact. The trigger threshold is set at the pressure gauge with contact. Any number of pressure gauges with contacts can be connected in series. The alarm unit for low gas level has an output relay to transmit the alarm signal to additional alarm devices such as units for visual and audible alarm. 3.1 Scope of delivery The system for monitoring and displaying the pressure status of gasfilled cylinders as well as signalling alarms consists of an alarm unit 6 Gasmangelwarngerät

7 Product description for low gas level plus one or several pressure gauges with magnetic spring contacts. The scope of delivery included the alarm unit for low gas level. The pressure gauge with contacts is delivered separately. Since each application requires different pressure gauge characteristics, no standard pressure gauge is delivered. Please contact us to determine the device that optimally meets your individual application requirements. TPS 03 ATEX The alarm unit for low gas level complies with the EMC Directive (2004/108/EC) and the Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC). 5 Transport and storage CAUTION Damage to the device due to improper transport. 10 Mounting and commissioning CAUTION Damage to the device due to improper storage. Protect the device from shock when storing it. Store the device in a clean and dry environment. Only store the device within the permissible temperature range, see chapter 4, page 8. 6 Mounting and commissioning 6.1 Mounting the control unit Do not install the control unit in hazardous areas (EX areas). Mount the control unit to an even, rigid and dry wall at eye level. The control unit must be accessible and visible at all times. The control unit must not be exposed to water or splash water. Do not mount the control unit in damp rooms. The maximum ambient temperature at the control unit must not be exceeded, see table 1, page 8. Protect the control unit from direct atmospheric influences if it is installed outdoors. 1. Open the control unit. 10 Gasmangelwarngerät

11 Mounting and commissioning 2. Mount the control unit to the wall. A Drill the fastening holes in the bottom part with a Ø 5 mm drill. Mount the bottom part to the wall with the screws shipped with the unit. B 1 Mount the screw to the wall. 2 Hang the bottom part to the screw. 3 Fixate the bottom part by screwing the lug to the wall. 3. 12 Mounting and commissioning 6.2 Electrical connection Mains voltage is interrupted and cannot be switched on by accident. Route the cable of the pressure gauge with contacts through the left cable gland. 2. Connect the cable of the pressure gauge with contacts to the left terminal (two poles). Polarity is not of importance. 3. Route the cable of the external device through the centre rubber piece / cable gland and connect it to the centre terminal. Polarity is not of importance. 4. Route the mains cable through the right screw connection. 5. Connect the phase to terminal L1 and the neutral conductor to terminal N. CAUTION The switching contact may be destroyed by voltage peaks when inductive consumers are switched off. Use commercially available standard RC combinations such as 0.1 µf/100 Ohm for inductive consumers. 12 Gasmangelwarngerät

13 Operation 6.3 Commissioning the device Control unit has been mounted as per chapter 6.1, page 10. The unit has been connected electrically as described in chapter 6.2, page 11. The pressure gauge with contacts has been connected to the control unit. Output relay has been wired (if required). The unit has been connected to mains. The flat cable has been connected to the printed circuit board. The control unit housing has been closed. If all prerequisites are met, the device is ready for operation. 1. Switch on the power supply via the on-site mains fuse. 2. Perform a function test; refer to chapter 6.4, page Function test Green LED is on. The pressure gauge with contacts has been mounted and connected to the control unit (gas-tight). 7 Operation At the pressure gauge with contacts Reduce the pressure at the pressure gauge with contacts until the pointer of the pressure gauge with contacts falls below the trigger threshold. OR At the control unit Press the Test button The red alarm LED lights up and the buzzer goes on. Output relay switches. The device is ready for operation. Alarm condition Mute the audible alarm by pressing the Acknowledge button. The alarm condition remains active until the alarm signal is stopped by the pressure gauge with contacts. At regular intervals Check for tightness at the process connection. 8.2 Maintenance activities Replacing the mains fuse F1 Mains voltage is interrupted and cannot be switched on by accident. 1. Open the control unit, refer to chapter 6.1, page Remove the transparent cover from the mains fuse F1. 3. Replace the mains fuse F1, refer to table 1, page Snap the transparent cover onto the mains fuse F1. 5. Close the control unit, refer to chapter6.1, page Switch on the mains voltage. Replacing the relay fuse Mains voltage is interrupted and cannot be switched on by accident. 1. Open the control unit, refer to chapter6.1, page Open the black, vertical fuse holder with a screwdriver: Press and turn it counter-clockwise by a ¼ turn. 3. Remove the insert. 4. Replace the relay fuse F2, refer to table 1, page Place the insert into the fuse holder and close it with a screwdriver: Press and turn it clockwise by a ¼ turn. 6. 15 Troubleshooting 9 Troubleshooting Repairs may only be performed by specially trained, qualified staff. Table 3: Troubleshooting Problem Possible reason Repair Green pilot lamp is not on. Mains voltage interrupted. Supply mains voltage. Additional alarm device does not respond during alarm or function test. Green lamp is on, but when you press the Test button, the red alarm lamp does not light up and the buzzer does not go on. The red alarm lamp lights up and the buzzer goes on even though the pressure gauge with contacts has not signalled an alarm condition. Mains cable is not connected. Mains fuse defective. Relay fuse defective. Additional alarm device defective. Control unit defective. Cable between pressure gauge with contacts and alarm unit for low gas level interrupted. Connect the mains cable. Replace the mains fuse. Replace the relay fuse. Replace the additional alarm device. Replace control unit. Check cable. Other malfunctions - Send the device to the manufacturer. 16 Shutting down, disposal 10 Shutting down, disposal 1. Switch off the supply voltage. 2. Dismount the device (see chapter 6, page 10, reverse sequence of steps). 3. To protect the environment, this device must not be disposed of together with the normal household waste. Dispose of the device according to according to local directives and guidelines. This device consists of materials that can be reused by recycling firms. The electronic inserts can be easily separated and the device consists of recyclable materials.
