1 This sample specification is for a duress only stand-alone SCAN system using SR series receivers with zone-within-a-zone and graphic display. SECTION 17 DURESS SYSTEM PART GENERAL 1.01 DESCRIPTION A. Work included in this section: Materials, Equipment, Fabrication, Installation and tests in conformity with applicable codes and authorities having jurisdiction for Personal Duress Alarm System. B. Related work in other sections: 1. Conduit and wiring, BASIC MATERIALS and METHODS, Section INCORPORATED DOCUMENTS A. Requirements of GENERAL CONDITIONS and DIVISION NO. 1, Section 160. B. Published specifications, standards, tests or recommended methods of trade, industry or governmental organizations apply to work in this section where cited below. 1. UL - Underwriters Laboratories, Inc QUALITY ASSURANCE A. All equipment and accessories to be the product of a manufacturer regularly engaged in its manufacture. B. 2 listed in Article 1.02 of this section and with all applicable national, state and local codes. D. All items of a given type shall be the product of the same manufacturer. E. Single manufacturer to assume responsibility for Personal Duress Alarm System as specified under this section. F. System Performance and Operation: 1.04 SUBMITTALS 1. Arrange system such that transmitter emits a signal to a local room or corridor receiver which processes a zoned signal to the control unit, in turn supplying a signal to a LED on a graphic display indicating the zone in alarm. 2. The control unit will receive the alarm signal from the receivers in each zone and annunciate the alarm on the graphic display. The alarm is acknowledged and reset by momentary switches at the control console. 3. The control module shall provide an oscillating signal for the flashing LED annunciators and the pulsating audible alarm. A red LED and a green LED will monitor the status of the power supply. The red LED will be flashing if the system is operating on the back-up batteries. 4. The zone control modules shall be plug-in modules which process the zone signal and provide: a. Constant Current outputs to annunciate an alarm condition by a LED on the graphic display. b. +24 VDC output voltage. c. A pair of normally open reed relay contacts. The constant current output shall be pulsing until he alarm is acknowledged and then be on steady. A. Shop Drawings and Product Data: Submit reproducible copies of complete Shop Drawings for Personal Duress Alarm System, including: 1. Point-to-point wiring diagram, indicating: a. All wiring termination with individual wire markings. SCANSA98.DOC Duress System - 2

3 b. Arrangement of panel modules in cabinets. c. Schedules, indicating annunciation and labeling. d. Connection details typical for each device to be installed. e. Conduit routing, size of conduit and quantity and size of wire. 2. Equipment manual indicating each device to be supplied. 3. Technical specification and data sheets of each system component and device. 4. As-built Drawings a. As-built drawings shall be furnished by the contractor in four copies upon completion of installation and prior to final inspection. The as-built drawings shall show by number the receivers in the exact sequence in which they are installed in each circuit. 5. Furnish a complete wiring diagram for approval by the Electrical Engineer for the entire system showing all devices in the system and all wiring. Assign wire conductor in the system where they are exposed in the terminal cabinets, junction boxes or equipment cabinets. 6. As-built Maintenance Manuals At completion of the work, the subcontractor shall turn over to the Electrical Engineer two (2) sets of the following: a. All shop drawings, instruction sheets, control diagrams of master boxes, instructions, bulletins and all pertinent information required by the Personal Duress Alarm technicians for proper operation of each and every piece of equipment furnished under this specification. b. An as-built drawing showing all circuits, wire marking and color code for each conductor. 7. Operations and Instructions After the system has been tested, and before final acceptance, the manufacturer s representative and the Electrical subcontractor shall hold a minimum two (2) hour instructional session with the Owner s selected personnel. 4 answered PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Ship material in its original packages to prevent damage or entrance of foreign matter. All handling performed in accordance with the manufacturer s recommendation. Provide protective coverings during construction. B. Replace, at no expense to owner, material damaged during storage or installation as directed by Architect. PART PRODUCTS 2.01 PERSONAL DURESS SIGNAL SYSTEM A. The individual personal security system shall be provided in areas designated on the drawings. The system shall be an independent duress system specified herein for alarm, annunciation and signal transmission to the central control room. B. The personal security system shall consist of portable, manually operated ultrasonic alarm transmitters, ultrasonic to electronic signal transducers, system control panel, system wiring and interconnections into the Duress System TRANSMITTER A. The transmitter shall be grenade type activation, i.e., pulling a pin that assures continuous hands-free operation. The transmitter shall be such that when removed from the individual it shall activate a signal. The transmitter shall have two transducers transmitting forward and backward. The transmitter shall have mandown capability and shall be powered by either lithium batteries rated at five years life or by a 9-volt alkaline battery rated at one year life. The transmitter shall have a low battery indicator and a steel belt clip. SCAN System 1000 Ultrasonic Transmitter Model No. LC-210 manufactured by Sentry Products, Inc RECEIVER A. A receiver converts the ultrasonic signal from the transmitter to an electrical signal and transmits the alarm signal to the system annunciator. 1. The receiver shall have a lamp which is visible for not less than 50 feet in a normally lit room. 2. The receiver shall be ultrasonic with a stainless steel or fire-retardant ABS plastic faceplate and mount in a two-gang E.O. box. SCANSA98.DOC Duress System - 4

5 2.04 XENON 3. Four types of receivers shall be available. a. To provide optimum coverage and minimize installation cost, the manufacturer shall supply single head, dual head, and quad head receivers. 1. The range shall be not less than 50 feet on the axis of each transducer. 2. A set of reed relay normally open (closed) contacts will be available. 3. Connections shall be by a pluggable block. 4. SCAN system 1000 Ultrasonic Receiver Model No. SR-100, SR- 120, SR-140 manufactured by Sentry Products, Inc. 4. All shower areas, laundry rooms and outdoor exercise yards must have weather resistant receivers. No receivers with openings that expose the internal areas to moisture, steam or water shall be acceptable. a. SCAN system 1000 Weather Resistant Receiver Model No WR-100 manufactured by Sentry Products, Inc. A. The strobe light shall consist of a Xenon flashtube with 10,000 peak candle power and a clear, curved Fresnel lens to provide maximum light dispersion. B. The flash rate shall be 1 to 3 flashes per minute. C. The operating voltage shall be 24 VDC and not require more than 45 milliamperes. D. The faceplate shall be brushed stainless steel and mount in a standard 2-gang E.O. box. SCANSA98.DOC Duress System - 5
