3 SPEAKERS Al Bastien is a leader in the field of life safety education. Having started in the fire alarm industry over twenty years ago as a technician, he continued to expand his skills and knowledge in the industry taking on roles in the sales of preventative maintenance and service agreements, large systems sales, project management, senior technician, technical support, service branch management and life safety consulting. He is an active member of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association serving on both the Ontario Chapter Executive and the National Education Committee. He has instructed the CFAA Fire Alarm Technician Program at St. Clair College of Applied Technology in the Continuing Education and continues to be a consultant in the field. Marc Corbeil, is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Capital Region CFAA Chapter and is one of two Mechanical Specialist Inspectors with the City of Ottawa. Marc s career started in the construction industry by receiving licenses as both an electrician and plumber. In 1990 Marc became a Municipal Inspector and upon moving to Ottawa became an inspector with the City of Ottawa in As a Mechanical Specialist Inspector, Marc reviews all life safety systems of buildings which include, but are not limited to HVAC, fire alarm, sprinkler, smoke control, smoke evacuation, emergency power, and emergency lighting. Michael Hugh, is a Senior Field Sales Engineer at SimplexGrinnell in Mississauga, Ontario. During his 25+ years of experience in the fire alarm industry, Michael served as a Fire Alarm Technician, Technical Support Specialist, Technical Trainer and Product Manager. He holds an Electronic Engineering Technician diploma from Seneca College and currently serves on the CFAA National Executive Board as well as on multiple ULC Standards sub-committees.
4 William Kuffner, M.A.Sc., P.Eng, PMP is a senior fire protection engineer with SNC-Lavalin. He is a professional member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, a Professional Engineer and a Project Management Professional. Mr. Kuffner provides building and fire code consulting services, evaluates and designs fire alarm and security systems, fire protection systems, fire proof and fire stop systems and conducts fire and evacuation modeling. Paul Latreille, Paul has 30 years experience working in the fire protection and life safety industry. The majority of Paul Latreille s experience has been gained working for Fire Protection, Code and Life Safety consulting engineering firms. Paul also has experience working for a fire alarm manufacturer and service company. Paul works for Morrison Hershfield, Canada s leading Code and Life Safety consulting engineering firm, in the Code and Life Safety Group, as a Senior Fire Protection Specialist. Paul s entire 30 year career has been focused on fire protection, life safety and security. He has been a member of the executive of the CFAA, the SFPE, the CFSA, and BOMA. He has taught Fire Protection and Sprinkler design at Algonquin College, and has been a past member of the NBC subcommittee on fire alarm systems. Dana Mueller, Business Development VEA, Midwest & Canada Dana Mueller represents Xtralis in Business Development for VEA in the Midwest and Canada. Previously Dana was a Regional Manager for the Midwest covering all of Xtralis product lines. Mrs. Mueller began her career in fire safety with API Group, which owns a collection of Life Safety service businesses. They are the largest Union Fire Sprinkler Contractor in the United States. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Dana got her professional start in the telecommunications industry with Choice One Communications, which provided voice and data networking and connectivity services to commercial and industrial customers in the Midwest. In 2005 she joined the fire and life safety industry with the US Fire Protection, a division of API, as a service and repair sales representative. In 2008 she joined Alliance Fire Protection, also an API company, in the Chicago area as a Regional Sales and Marketing Representative. Dana has been with Xtralis since March of Dana grew up in Nebraska and is still a Husker fan at heart! She and her husband Tyler, and their three children live in the suburbs of Chicago where they enjoy traveling, sporting events and the arts.
5 LOCATION LOCATION Carleton University is hosting the 2016 National Capital Region Chapter Technical Seminar. It is located at 1125 Colonel By Drive, Building #19, Residence Commons Conference Level 2 FENN Lounge. A Campus Map can be found on the Carleton University website DIRECTIONS Via Highway 417 (runs east/west through the centre of the City of Ottawa) Exit Highway 417 (also called the Queensway ) at Bronson Avenue. Follow Bronson Avenue south approximately 2 kilometres. The campus entrance will be on the right at the intersection of Bronson and Sunnyside Avenue. Via Highway 416 Hwy 416 connects Hwy 401 (interchange near Prescott, Ontario) to Hwy 417. Follow Hwy. 416 to Hwy. 417 (East). Follow Hwy. 417 (the Queensway ) and exit at Bronson Avenue. Follow Bronson Avenue south approximately 2 kilometres. The campus entrance will be on the right at the intersection of Bronson and Sunnyside Avenue. PARKING Parking at Carleton University will be at no cost in the designated lot #6. Details will follow by to each registrant and will be posted on the CFAA website.
