Protect your personnel and plant with Kidde Explosion Protection Kidde Explosion Protection helps reducing costly production downtime and promotes a good corporate image in the community A safe working environment enhances confidence and morale in a company. Well motivated employees are the best guarantee of high productivity and continuous quality improvement. Maximum productivity In a safe environment your employees achieve their highest efficiency With our safety technology you increase your plant availability Customers appreciate a safe plant and it promotes a good corporate image We offer an extensive range of services for fire and explosion protection Kidde plc offers safety solutions worldwide by using explosion protection technology From product development through to installation, commissioning and maintenance of explosion protection systems, our Development Engineers, Commissioning Engineers and Service Engineers take care of the safety of personnel and industrial installations all around the globe. Explosion suppression Explosion venting - Bursting discs - Explosion doors - Flameless venting devices Explosion isolation - Extinguishing barriers - Fast acting valves - Diverters Post-explosion fire protection Seminars/workshops Dust control The following companies of Kidde plc offer fire and explosion protection systems: Kidde Fire Protection, INCOM, Kidde-Deugra and Kidde-Fenwal

Explosive moments: the spark often occurs at unexpected locations Milk powder Flour Sugar Flavour Opiate Ascorbine acid Plastic PVC-additive Epoxy-resin Epoxy-polyester Herbicide Fungicide Polyethylene Polypropylene Aluminium Magnesium Zinc Titanium Dye Toner Solvents Ethylene oxide How can an explosion be initiated from a dust or gas air mixture? Typical applications where explosion risks exist: When a flammable mixture occurs simultaneously with sufficient oxygen and an ignition source. This is the classic fire triangle. Eliminate any one of these and an explosion will not occur. Typical ignition sources include: Hot surfaces occurring in mills, mixers, fans, etc. Mechanical sparks (friction, grinding, impact) Electric equipment Smouldering combustion Electrostatic discharges (cone discharges, brush discharges, propagating brush discharges and sparks) Mills Mixers Conveyors Elevators Pneumatic conveyors Silos, bunkers Sieves Spray dryers Fluid bed dryers Filters, cyclones Shredders Reactors FIBCs (Big Bags) Aerosol Fill Rooms And many more!

Kidde Explosion Protection solutions help preventing injury and fatalities to your personnel as well as protecting your plant Innovative Technology 1. Firewolf patented electromechanical fast-acting valve 2. Low maintenance costs 3. Redundant operation 4. Self-testing 5. Electronic monitoring of pressure 6. Monitored transportation lock Explosion suppression and isolation of a filter unit Explosion suppression fitted to silos Explosion suppression on a dust collector installation 5l/20l Firewolf HRD-suppressor 5l/20l PHRD suppressor 45l EHRD suppressor Explosion suppression and isolation on a silo Explosion suppression between dryer and filter Explosion suppression of a small filter Reducing the consequences of explosions Explosion suppression installations are designed to prevent the generation of high pressures by fuel-air explosions in vessels. Explosion suppression installations do not prevent an explosion from occurring but mitigate its effects on the protected equipment and personnel. The flames are quenched in the early stages of explosion development. In this way personnel in the vicinity of the installation are protected IR-13 spark detector for monitoring of ducts MEX-3 explosion multi-sensor for monitoring vessels FAB-3 field connection box for conditioning MEX-3 signals FAB-13 field connection box for monitoring Firewolf HRD-suppressor Suppressant from being hurt, and destruction of the installation is prevented.

Kidde Explosion Protection Systems protect where it can become extremely hot Extinguishing post-explosion fires After an explosion a fire in vented installations is not uncommon. This is particularly common if explosion doors do not close after operation. Explosion venting/isolation in combination with post-explosion fire protection of filter To avoid further damage by a post-explosion fire, fire protection systems are installed (Aquasafe, powder, CO2, Argonite, FM200, etc.). The choice of the fire suppressant is based on the product properties. The fire is detected early during its development using temperature sensors which are unaffected by pollutants and will automatically extinguish the fire. Vented silo complex Bursting discs with Breaking wire Flameless venting device Diverter with extinguishing barrier Post-explosion fire in a vented silo complex Fire temperature detector Fire suppression cylinders Explosion venting door Explosion venting door with vacuum Explosion doors on a silo complex Explosion doors with vacuum breaks mounted on a silo breaks

Kidde Explosion Protection products avoid explosions being mitigated to other parts of the plant The dust control devices of Dustalert allow for continuous monitoring and indication of dust emissions in dust collectors as well as the early detection of filter damage Installed in conjunction with explosion protection systems, dust control devices are mounted on the clean airside of the filter. The potential presence of an explosive dust-air mixture on the clean airside is extremely alarming as normally no constructive protection measures are applied on this side. An explosion caused by the fan as potential ignition source could therefore destroy the equipment. Effective monitoring and early detection of hazardous dust concentrations offer excellent protection against explosions. The additional control of the filter bags provides extra protection for the environment. Explosion shock resistant bag filter Explosion isolation of a filter designed to withstand 10 bar over pressure Dust control device DS-10, digital output Avoiding explosion transmission To prevent pressure waves and/or flames being mitigated to other plant areas, isolation devices must be fitted such as: Extinguishing barriers (chemical) Fast acting slam shut slide valves Ventex-valve Diverter with extinguishing barrier No optics Practically maintenance free Simple mounting Dust emission trend analysis and monitoring of filter damage Innovative microprocessor controlled sensor (patented TriboACE -method) Applicable for several types of filters and ducts Dust control device DS-30, 4-20 ma output Fast acting slide valve SISTAG Speed HIS 16 bar DN100 DN400 (other sizes on request) ESI-P active explosion protection valve ESI passive explosion protection valve IR-13 spark detector for monitoring of ducts Explosion diverter with extinguishing barrier Dust control device DA-50 for moist products and high temperatures

Kidde Explosion Protection answers your burning questions regarding process safety Controlling spurious events Several measures can be used to prevent unwanted events, such as the concepts of measuring, control and regulating technology, shutdown systems, emergency cooling or organisational measures aimed at eliminating potential hazards. Thermal explosion This process is referred to as runaway reaction or thermal explosion. This possibility can arise when: materials become thermally unstable strong exothermal reactions Explosion venting Explosion suppression Explosion proof construction (Containment) Explosion suppression of Ethylene Oxide reactor are maintained there is an unacceptable increase in heat production there is an unacceptable accumulation of the reaction Kidde Explosion Protection sensor technology potential insufficient heat of reaction Such a control can be achieved by: is removed Rate of pressure rise or static pressure Temperature Flames In production facilities the protection devices must be installed with process independent sensors. The explosion multi-sensor MEX-3 can detect potential hazards at a very early stage in the explosion process. EX single-zone control unit EX-400 multi-zone control unit EX-5000 multi-zone control unit for fire and/or explosion protection MEX-3 explosion multi-sensor (pressure) MEX-3T explosion multi-sensor (pressure and temperature) MEX-3F explosion multi-sensor (pressure and flame) MEX-3HT explosion multi-sensor (high temperature application)
