1 Installation Instructions Model DLC Device Loop Card INTRODUCTION OPERATION The SIEMENS Model DLC Device Loop Card is the interface for connection of FireFinder-XLS smoke detectors, manual stations, monitor devices, and control devices to the FireFinder-XLS System. The DLC uses one network address on the system. The application program that is loaded into the on-board microprocessor controls the DLC operation. The DLC contains 12 LEDs for diagnosis of problems. Ground fault detection is provided by loop. All field devices connected to the DLC are addressed and tested using the Device Programming Unit (DPU). The DLC initializes, operates, and maintains all devices residing on the loop. The DLC communicates all relevant device and event information, such as alarms and troubles, to the System CPU. The sensitivity of any intelligent smoke detector and the logic functions of any intelligent output devices can be checked and adjusted from the PMI through the DLC. All information about the devices on the loop can be displayed on the PMI. The DLC allows the System polarity insensitive devices to be connected without generating errors. The DLC supports only one loop (two isolated parallel zones) of up to 252 FireFinder-XLS intelligent field devices as well as device accessories (relay bases, audible bases, and remote lamps) in any combination. The microprocessor controls the on-board isolator to isolate either zone from the loop if one of them is shorted. When one zone is isolated from the loop, the other zone will still work. 2 Controls and Indicators The front panel of the DLC contains one reset switch, 12 LEDs, and one HNET address switch, as shown in Figure 1. A reset switch is located on the top of the front panel. Pushing the reset switch re-initializes the DLC operation. The LEDs follow the reset switch and their functions are defined as follows: POWER (Green) Normally ON. When illuminated, indicates the power for the DLC is applied to the card. CARD FAIL (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates the card microprocessor has failed. HNET FAIL (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the HNET communication with the DLC has terminated and the card goes into degrade mode. GND FAULT (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the DLC has detected either a negative or positive ground fault on its field wiring. ALARM (Red) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the DLC has detected an alarm. TROUBLE (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the DLC has detected a trouble on its field wiring. CLASS A OPEN ZONE 1 (Yellow) Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 1 wire is open if the loop was set to Class A. CLASS A RETURN ZONE 1 (Yellow) Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 1 return wire is reversed if the loop was set to Class A. SHORT ZONE 1 (Yellow) Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 1 wire short. CLASS A OPEN ZONE 2 (Yellow) Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 2 wire is open if the loop was set to Class A. CLASS A RETURN ZONE 2 (Yellow) Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 2 return wire is reversed if the loop was set to Class A. SHORT ZONE 2 (Yellow) Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 2 wire short. A three-position switch at the bottom of the front panel is used to set the HNET network address of the DLC. All field devices connected to the DLC are addressed and tested using the Device Programming Unit (DPU). Refer to the DPU Manual, P/N for further information. 2

3 PRE-INSTALLATION Set the three-digit HNET network address for the DLC using the three-position switch located near the bottom of the front panel. (Refer to Figure 1 for the location of the switch.) The address for the DLC must be the same as the address selected for it in the Zeus Programming Tool. To increment each digit of the address, press the + button above the desired digit; to decrement each digit, press the - button below the desired digit. The range of allowable addresses is from 001 to 251. INSTALLATION The DLC plugs perpendicularly into one slot in the CC-5 card-cage via two 96-pin DIN connectors and can occupy any slot in the card cage. (Refer to Figure 2.) Insert the DLC card into the card guides rightside up (lettering on the front panel is legible) Slide the card in until the card edge connectors contact the receptacles on the motherboard. Verify that the DIN connectors of the card and the cardcage aligned properly. The card can only plug in one direction to the card cage, if it does not align, DO NOT FORCE the card. Place thumbs on the front panel adjacent to the captive screws and gently apply even pressure on the card until the connectors seat in the receptacles on the motherboard. Figure 2 Installing The DLC Secure with the captive screws. WIRING Disconnect BATTERY and AC prior to working on equipment. All field wiring to the DLC is connected to the terminal blocks of the CC-5 card cage slot in which it is installed. To Connect External Wiring 1. Lift the WHITE cover on the terminal block. 2. Loosen the screw of the terminal by turning it counterclockwise. 3. Insert the wire into the side of the terminal block. 4. Tighten the screw of the terminal block by turning it clockwise. Connect +24V from the PSC-12 to terminal 17 and -24V from the PSC-12 to terminal 18 of the slot in the CC-5 where the DLC will be installed. (Refer to Figure 3.) 3

5 The DLC circuit can be wired Style 4 (Class B) or Style 6 (Class A). On-board switches controlled by microprocessor allow selection of Class A or B without using jumpers for Class B. The DLC field circuit wiring does not require twisted, shielded wire. It can be installed in conduit containing low voltage power, notification appliance circuits, audible and speaker zone circuits, and RS-485 and other data circuits without restrictions. Electrical connections for the two zones are shown in Figure 4. The wiring style is set in the Zeus Programming Tool without using external jumpers. Once the wiring style is set, both zones will be set to the same style. Do not wire the two zones in different styles. If the return wires are reversed in each zone (Class A), the CLASS A RETURN LED will turn on. Switch the two return wires to remove this trouble. Eliminate all other troubles before completing the installation. COMPATIBILITY 1. The DLC supports only FireFinder-XLS intelligent devices. The compatibility identifiers for the compatible devices are the model numbers listed in Table 1. Use any combination of those listed. Up to 252 devices can be distributed in either zone, but the total number is limited. For example, if 100 devices are in Zone 1, then the number of the devices in Zone 2 must be 152 or less. 3. All circuits are power limited to NFPA 70 per NEC 760. The DLC supports the use of 18 AWG min non-shielded, non-twisted, thermoplastic fixture wire without conduit, if permitted by local building codes. 4. No end of line device is required. 5. Total circuit resistance of each zone must not exceed 50 ohms when 252 devices are loaded into one zone. (Refer to the chart on page 6.) Maximum capacitance: 0.5µF between line+ and line- 1.0µF between line and chassis 6. T-tapping is not allowed on Class A loops.
