This ensures a secure, weather or smoke tight seal between the door and mullion without having to have two complete frames and the space between them. Typically, when two frames are used, smaller doors than the opening or corridor can accommodate are used. Mullions allow for the use of wider doors, making for wider openings and easier movement through exits and corridors. Mullions are available to meet most opening requirements; fixed, removable, fire rated, high abuse and lockable. Typical removable mullions are extruded aluminum intended for general usage and non-fire rated applications with top and bottom retainers designed for easy removal.
