2 Cautions and Warnings Cautions and Warnings READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS- Follow the instructions in this installation manual. These instructions must be followed to avoid damage to this product and associated equipment. Product operation and reliability depend upon proper installation. DO NOT INSTALL ANY SIMPLEX PRODUCT THAT APPEARS DAMAGED- Upon unpacking your Simplex product, inspect the contents of the carton for shipping damage. If damage is apparent, immediately file a claim with the carrier and notify an authorized Simplex product supplier. ELECTRICAL HAZARD - Disconnect electrical field power when making any internal adjustments or repairs. All repairs should be performed by a representative or authorized agent of your local Simplex product supplier. STATIC HAZARD - Static electricity can damage components. Handle as follows: Ground yourself before opening or installing components. Prior to installation, keep components wrapped in anti-static material at all times. 2

3 Introduction to the NAC Modules Overview The NAC modules are offered as optional enhancements to 100 W and Flex amplifiers, as well as the Expansion Signal (XSIG) Card, for either expanding the number of available NACs or converting the existing NACs to Class A operation. This section describes both types of NAC modules. Class A Adapters The (Flex), (100 W), and Expansion Signal Card Class A Adapters are used to convert the existing NACs on the amplifiers to Class A operation. Wiring is normally supervised from the B terminals. In the event of a short or open on the field wiring, power is provided from both the A and B terminals so that all speakers function under a single fault (short or open) condition. Class A wiring does not guarantee all speakers will function if there are multiple faults. Expansion NAC Modules The (Flex), (100W), and Expansion Signal Card XNACs double the NAC capacity of the amplifiers or XSIG card. A Flex Amplifier normally has three (3) Class B NACs available for wiring field circuits. Adding the module to a Flex Amplifier or XSIG card increases the total number of available NACs to six (6). For the 100W Amplifier, the Expansion Modules allow wiring of up to twelve (12) NACs. The additional NACs function in the same way as the original NACs and are monitored for opens, shorts and earth fault isolation while in supervision. NOTE: Using Expansion NAC modules only doubles the number of available NACs, NOT the available power. For example, a 100W amplifier has 100W available for speaker circuits regardless of whether it has six (6) NACs or twelve (12) NACs. 4 NAC Module Specifications The specifications below apply to both Class A adapters and XNACs at an operating voltage range of VDC. The current draw specifications listed are for a 24 V DC supply, the nominal battery voltage. Table 1. The equipment operates normally under non-condensing humidity conditions up to 93% relative humidity at 90 F (32 C). 4

5 Installing the NAC Modules onto the Amplifiers or XSIG Card Mounting NAC Modules The procedure for installing both the Class A and XNAC modules is identical. Refer to Figure 2 and the instructions below to mount the NAC module to an amplifier or XSIG card. Remove and set aside the screws from the area around the NAC expansion header on the amplifier. The screw holes are depicted in Figure Secure threaded metal standoffs provided with modules to the screw holes shown in Figure Align and then connect P1 on the NAC module with one of the following: P1 or P3 on the 100 W amplifier (all Product IDs) P4 on the , -1313, -1326, -1327, -1361, -1362, -1363, & Flex amplifiers or P5 on the , -1213, -1226, -1227, -1261, -1262, -1263, & Flex amplifiers P1 on the XSIG card 4. Secure the NAC module to the metal standoffs using the screws set aside in Step 1. 5
