9 Message From The Chairman Creative Challenge to Tap New Offshore Blue-Ocean I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce the overall picture of the Korean marine equipment industry and present my view on generating new opportunities in the field via global cooperation, collaboration and coordination. Marine equipment enterprises worldwide are struggling hard with the lingering economic stagnation of the global economy, largely affected by the financial crisis in the eurozone. With the mindset of chance after pinch, I think now is the time for the marine equipment business community worldwide to unite to create and share wisdom, overcome the recession and develop new dreams and a brighter future. These days, the Korean government and related business circles are increasingly emphasizing participation in ocean resource development projects in pursuit of a breakthrough on our blue-ocean voyage to a marine economy era. Korea's new president, championing a Creative Economy for Happy Together of all peoples, has revived the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries as well as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (formerly the Ministry of Knowledge Economy), which also inaugurated a Shipbuilding & Offshore Plant Division. In this context, I am proud to lead KOMEA s active participation in future-oriented policy formulation related to offshore projects and the marine economy. Of course, our offshore-oriented new horizon will bear fruit only if it is rooted in global cooperation. With this project and other major initiatives, KOMEA remains at the forefront of international cooperation and collaboration in the marine equipment field. 15 Review of KOMEA Activities in 2012 Government Relations - Establishment of FTA Conclusion-Related Response Strategies - Support for Increased Selection of World-Class Products - Promotion of Korea Marine Equipment Global Service Center (KOMEC) Businesses Establishment of FTA Conclusion-Related Response Strategies KOMEA precisely analyzed medium and long-term advantages and disadvantages to be derived when concluding Korea-Japan FTA and Korea-China FTA, important strategies for the development of the domestic marine equipment industry, and provided recommendations so that the government can reflect them actively when drawing up its policies. Support for Increased Selection of World-Class Products result: Two new items were selected - ballast water treatment system (PANASIA) and emergency generator for ships (GPC) - Two more makers of world-class products were selected - Sunwoo CS (crankshaft for medium-sized ship diesel engine) and Daechang Metal (cylinder cover for ship engine) - Cumulative total at the end of 2012: 47 items Promotion of Korea Marine Equipment Global Service Center (KOMEC) Businesses KOMEA promoted KOMEC businesses continuously to secure the global competitiveness of the Korean marine equipment industry through technology commercialization of R&D products and support for global technology marketing. 16 Review of KOMEA Activities in 2012 Enhancement of Competitive Edge Related Businesses for Reinforcement of Competitiveness To strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic marine equipment industry, KOMEA jointly carried out projects promoted by related organizations results: * Accomplished IP (intellectual property) R&D support project jointly with the Korea Intellectual Property Office, Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute and Busan Branch Office of Korea Industrial Complex Corporation * Developed ways of recovering payments for supplied products: Recommended to the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy Participation in Offshore Plant Equipment R&D Center Business With linkage to the Korean Register of Shipping (KR), KOMEA participated in the project for corporate support to foster the foundation for the offshore plant equipment & materials industry. - Built PQ (pre-qualification) document preparation and comprehensive management systems (established support systems for vendor registrations with domestic and overseas oil majors) - Held an explanatory session on vendor registrations with oil majors (jointly organized the session with the Korean Register of Shipping (KR) in November 2012 at KR Conclusion of MOUs for Mutual Cooperation As the representative association of Korean's marine equipment industry, KOMEA signed MOUs to pursue multifaceted cooperation with central & provincial governments and related organizations. o MOU to Support Industry-Academia-Research Institute Win-Win Cooperation for Acceleration of Technical Cooperation and Activation of Investment in the Green Ship Industry o MOU to Support Win-Win Cooperation for Development of the Shipbuilding Industry Information Exchanges & Knowledge Network o KOMEA facilitated information exchanges with member companies.. 19 Industry Landscape Great Transformation Into Offshore The market scale of the global offshore equipment industry exceeded US$150 billion in 2012 and is projected to continue strong annual average growth of 7% for the next 20 years. A related industry official said, "Development of natural gas to replace oil is expanding in full swing throughout the world, including the Middle East, West Africa, the North Sea and Sakhalin. As a result, the expectations of Korea's large shipbuilders equipped with global competitiveness to win related projects are higher than ever." The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE) projects that Korea will achieve US$80 billion in offshore plant orders in Despite the quantitative expansion, however, it cannot be said that the weather forecast for the Korean offshore plant industry is rosy. Due to the lack of mine blocks that can be utilized to develop basic designs, Korea is unable to carry out the necessary engineering nor obtain the rights to select related equipment and materials. Consequently, Korea's localization rate of equipment and materials is expected to remain at the 20% level. Korean shipbuilders have strengths in building offshore platforms, including FPSOs and drillships, but have not yet been able to advance into the larger subsea market due to the inability to utilize mine blocks. Operation of Korea Pavilions at Offshore-Specialized Exhibitions o OTC 2013 (USA, Houston) o Brazil Offshore 2013 (Brazil, Rio de Janeiro) o Offshore Europe 2013 (UK, Aberdeen) In particular, developing countries like China and others are threatening Korea in the merchant ship building market while also pursuing strategies to foster their own offshore plant industries by utilizing mine blocks that they have secured. However, an opportunity is approaching to enable Korea to escape the confines of 'Owner-Oriented Slavery Contracts' in the offshore plant market. 20

21 Statistical Highlights Sales Volume Sales Volume Slips to 12 Trillion Won The sales volume of the 190 members of Korea Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA) reached 12 trillion won in 2012, a slight decline from 12.5 trillion won in KOMEA members roughly account for 80% of total Korean marine equipment sales. Sales Volume Trend The engine & machinery segment continued to take the lion's share of marine equipment sales, recording 6.8 trillion won, followed by outfitting with 3.0 trillion won, electric & electronics at 1.59 trillion won and hulls at 602 billion won. Production Production Exceeds 13.2 Trillion Won KOMEA member companies posted 13.2 trillion won in marine equipment production in 2011, compared with 14.2 trillion won in 2010, which is estimated to represent about 80% of Korea s total marine equipment output. Production Trend Production, based on a KOMEA-member survey, broke down to 7.7 trillion won in the engine & machinery segment, 3.6 trillion won in outfittings, 1.8 trillion won in electric & electronics and 630 billion won in hulls. 21

22 Statistical Highlights Exports Exports Decline to US$2.25 Bil. The engine & machinery segment scored overseas shipments of US$1.13 billion last year. Outfittings were the second-leading export item at US$603 million, followed by electric & electronics at US$338 million and hulls with US$179 million. Export Trend China was the largest export market for Korean marine equipment in 2012 with US$760.1 million, followed by Japan at US$272.2 million, the United States with US$125.3 million, Singapore at US$138.1 million, etc. Workforce Workforce Stands at 63,553 Korea's combined marine equipment workforce stood at about 63,600 persons in Engine & machinery took the lion's share with 20,674 workers, followed by electric & electronics with 18,825, outfittings with 17,014 and hulls with 7,040.
