1 Fire Safety Installation Instructions Model PSR- Remote Power Supply Figure PSR- Remote Power Supply INTRODUCTION The SIEMENS Model PSR- (See Figure ) is a microprocessor controlled remote power supply and battery charger used with the MXL System. It operates with an MPS-6 or MPS- to provide 6 or amps, respectively, of power for various MXL modules. In addition, the PSR- acts as an interface between remote option modules and the MXL when used with a NET- plug-in communication module (See Instructions P/N -999) or NET-7 plug-in communication module (See Instructions P/N -99). The PSR- can also be used to power an MOI/MOD annunciator driver set. In addition, the PSR- can be used as an auxiliary power supply in a standalone mode without an MXL. The PSR- has LED status indicators for: POWER ON, V AUX ON, V ON, BAT TRBL, TB TRBL (Class A power limited output for the CZM- and PS-), GND FAULT, XMIT, ANY TRBL, and ANY ALARM. The PSR- has two relays used for common alarm and common trouble. These relays also can be programmed for local alarm and local trouble using CSG-M. 2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Remove all system power before installation, first battery and then AC. Primary Power Primary power for the PSR- is provided by the MPS-6 or MPS-. Both of these mount in the lower right-hand corner of the MXL enclosure. Follow the instructions below for the appropriate power supply. MPS-6 Install the MPS-6 (See MPS-6 Instructions, P/N -9). With the AC mains disconnected, connect the MPS-6 power cable to P of the PSR-. Be sure that the jumper assembly is installed in P of the PSR-. If this jumper is not installed, the PSR- will detect a permanent AC fail or indicate auxiliary power voltage is low. Change F to a A fuse, P/N -9. Change F to a 6A fuse, P/N MPS- Install the MPS- (See MPS- Instructions, P/N -9). Remove and discard the jumper assembly installed in P of the PSR-. Disconnect the AC mains. Connect the MPS- power cable to P of PSR-. Battery Calculations Battery backup is a requirement for the MXL. To determine the size battery you must use, follow the procedures listed below. The MXL can charge a battery of up to amp hours. A battery size calculation form is provided on page.. Record all the modules required in the form on the following page.. Calculate each row across and place the total in the right column: Total Standby VDC Module Current. Total the right-hand column and record it at the bottom of the form opposite Total System Current.. For NFPA 7 Local and 7 Proprietary systems multiply the total system current by and record it at that Total AH location. or For NFPA 7 Municipal Tie and 7 Remote Station systems multiply the total system current by 6 and record it at that Total AH location. or For FM Appoved Deluge/PreAction systems multiply the total system current by 9 and record it at that Total AH location.. Multiply the AH Total by. to obtain the final battery amp hour capacity and record it opposite Battery Size. Three battery models are UL listed for use with the MXL: BP-6 V, AH BTX- a set of V, AH BTX- a set of V, AH, 6 AH, or 7 AH* * Although larger batteries may be used, as noted, the AH capacity must be used for determining battery requirements. Select the battery that meets or exceeds the final calculated battery amp hour rating. Use an external battery box with the BTX- model. Do not connect the batteries at this time. Power Supply Load Calculations To ensure that the power supply is not overloaded, complete the worksheet on page.. Enter the quantity of each module in the enclosure.. Caclulate both the V and V loads for each row.. Total the Active V and Active V columns.. Ensure that both totals are within the power supply output ratings in the table below. 7 how many PSR- power supplies are used, you MAY NOT exceed initiating points. Each PSR- must be placed at a unique address in the system. Use the CSG-M printout to determine the address of the PSR-. Set the network address on S using Table. Note that the PSR- network address switch is a 9-position switch. Switch position 9 is not used at this time. Set it to the OFF or Open position. When used as a standalone power supply, the network address does not need to be set. MOUNTING Mount the PSR- Remote Power Supply on the MBR-MP mounting plate in the MME- enclosure as shown in Figure.. Place the PSR- over the four standoffs in the upper left portion of the mounting plate.. Secure it in place using the hardware provided. Figure Mounting the PSR- on the MBR-MP MAKING THE NETWORK CONNECTION (TB) For the PSR- to communicate with the MXL, a NET- or NET-7 network interface card must be installed into P7 of the PSR-. For a NET-, connect the MXL network (MMB) to terminals and of TB as indicated in Figure. Terminate the shield at the MMB only. For a NET-7, refer to Figure of the NET-7 Installation Instructions (P/N -99) and connect the network to terminals,,, and. For a NET-7 network connected to an MMB-, refer to Figure. When the PSR- is used as a standalone power supply, neither NET- nor NET-7 is needed. If an MKB- is installed, the NET-7 must be installed in a MOM. These relays are controlled by the MXL through CSG-M output logic. The alarm relay transfers if the local alarm default signal is activated by an initiating control board (CZM- or ALD-I). This occurs when the initiating board cannot communicate with the MXL. Likewise, if any local module, including the PSR-, loses communication with the MXL, the trouble relay transfers. When the system is operating normally, these relays are controlled by output logic only. See Figure 6 for ratings and wiring instruction. Auxiliary Power for CZM- and PS-A (TB) A Class A power limited output is provided on TB, terminals -6 for use with the CZM- and PS-A.. This power is available on TB, terminals through 6.. All wiring must be in accordance with Article 76 of NEC or local building codes.. The power for CZM- and PS-A is power limited to NFPA 7 per NEC 76.. Electrical Ratings: VDC, full wave bridge, unregulated A max. You may connect a maximum of CZM-s to the TB power source. Class B wiring can be used to obtain the maximum of CZM-s. Each Class B wire run can support a maximum of CZM-s, ohms max. Multiple Class B power connections can be used if you do not exceed the ratings above ( CZM-s max and ohms per run max). For example, you could have four individual Class B power runs, for a total of devices (for example,, 8, 6, and CZM-s), with each of the four runs not exceeding ohms resistance. T-tapping is allowed, provided the total resistance of all wires does not exceed ohms. 6. Refer to Figures 9 and for wiring instructions for the PS-A. 6 TB REFER TO WIRING SPECIFICATION FOR MXL. This output is rated at 6 amps (MPS-6) or amps (MPS-) 8- VDC. This capacity must be derated by the current drawn by the CZM- and PS-A power output. If the full amp capacity of the CZM- and PS-A output is used, the MOM- power must be derated to amps (MPS-6) or amps (MPS-). See Figure for wiring instructions. When a PSR- is used with an MKB-, use a MOM- for the NET-7. Connect as shown in Figure.
