4 1 INTRODUCTION This document describes the SiteStar Cabinet, an outdoor/indoor battery backup system providing -48 V DC backup power in the event of AC mains failure, and for Hybrid powered Sites. The cabinet is available in two sizes, 1.8 m and 1.1 m high. The 1.8 m cabinet is available in an EQ Zone 4 version for areas exposed to earthquake risk. The cabinet is available in the following electrical versions: 230 V AC 115 V AC -48 V DC If not otherwise stated, the content of this documentation applies to all versions. 5 1.1 TARGET GROUP The target group for this document is the personnel involved in the site installation engineering process and those responsible for the installation, integration and maintenance of the site. 1.2 DOCUMENTS The following documents are available to provide detailed information on the SiteStar Cabinet and its handling: 1.3 ILLUSTRATIONS D000100/2, SiteStar Cabinet Installation D000100/3, SiteStar Cabinet Maintenance D000100/4, SiteStar Spare Parts Illustrations in this document can show alternative designs. 1.4 PREREQUISITES All performance statement in this document relies on the following: Only approved hardware are used Proper hardware handling 1.5 ABBREVIATIONS Installation and maintenance instructions as well as documentation for external equipment are followed Abbreviations used in this document. The SiteStar cabinet features an active climate solution which maximizes battery lifetime in warm climates and battery capacity in cold climates. SiteStar cabinets are designed for both indoor and outdoor environments, with a unique combination of low thermal conductive materials and a highefficiency climate solution. With an extremely cost-effective cooling technology and a cabinet shell that allows minimal transfer of temperatures, we keep your batteries at optimal operating temperature, with the energy usage equivalent to a single light bulb. This means the SiteStar cabinets offer up to 95% power savings compared to airconditioned cabinets. In case additional battery capacity is required, the SiteStar cabinet can be extended with a second SiteStar cabinet. The system is approved for operation throughout the world. 8 2.2 UNITS IN THE SYSTEM This section contains descriptions of the units in the system. 9 2.2.1 CABINET The cabinet structure consists of an inner and an outer liner. The volume between the liners is filled with foam insulation. With this design there is virtually no heat-bridges in the climate insulation and thus giving the cabinet an excellent thermodynamic performance. The top of the cabinet is provided with four M8 threaded holes that are provided for the usage of lifting eye bolts. The roof of the cabinet is designed with a small overhang in the front to protect the top of the environmental seal from direct sunlight and water EARTH GROUNDING The cabinet is equipped with earth grounding points as follows: Cabinet without EQ Zone 4 Reinforcement The cabinet is equipped with a double M8 earth point at each side of the plinth, A in the figure below, for connection to site earth grounding point. Figure 3 Earth Grounding in Cabinet without EQ Zone 4 Reinforcement The PE wire of the incoming AC feed (if any) is terminated in a green/yellow PE terminal located inside the CF, securely connected to the cabinet ground. EQ Zone 4 Cabinet The cabinet is equipped with four earth grounding studs in the bottom of the cabinet, Figure 4, for connection to site earth grounding point. Doc. No: D INS-01, Rev I Page 9 of 35

10 Figure 4 Earth Grounding Studs in EQ Zone 4 Cabinet The PE wire of the incoming AC feed (if any) is terminated in a green/yellow PE terminal located inside the CF, securely connected to the cabinet ground DOOR The door is of the same design concept as the cabinet when it comes to the thermal insulation, with an inner and outer liner and insulation foam in between. The SiteStar Cabinet Door contains the climate unit, the climate control unit and the door locking system. This section describes the: Climate Control Unit Locking System Doc. 11 CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT The Climate Control Unit (CCU) is monitoring the temperature inside the cabinet and regulates the Climate Unit (CLU). The external alarm interface on the CCU is wired to the Connection Field, which includes the interface for the outgoing external alarm cables. The control unit and its panel are located at the inside of the bottom part of the door. Figure 5 shows the panel. The panel also exists with an ECO indicator and switch, see Figure 6. 12 Figure 6 below shows the CCU panel for Cabinets with Eco mode. Figure 6 CCU Panel with Eco mode Eco and operational indicators are green, test is yellow and fault is red. To the left of the LED indicators a plug is located. Behind the plug, the switch for the eco operation is located LOCKING SYSTEM The doors are equipped with a locking system. As default, the locking system is factory installed at the right side of the door. It is possible to shift the locking installation to right hanging door. 13 2.2.4 CONNECTION FIELD This section contains information about the Connection Field (CF) and equipment installed there in. 14 DC CONNECTION UNIT In cabinets with DC powered CLU the batteries and the CLU can be connected direct to an external power supply unit or through the optional DC Connection Unit (DCCU). The DCCU is a connection point, including fuses, for up to 4 battery strings. Cable lugs for cables up to 95 mm 2 can be used with the DCCU. All connections are M8 studs and the distances between the studs are 1 inch. The DCCU is installed at the bottom of the cabinet, Figure 8. For further information, see D000108, SiteStar DCCU Kit. If the SiteStar cabinet is configured without the DCCU, it is of vital importance that the Battery cables are provided with adequate protection at the site to ensure compliance to national wiring regulations. 15 CLU POWER CONNECTION TERMINAL The cabinet is equipped with a CLU power connection terminal, at the bottom of the CF, for the connection of power to the CLU CIRCUIT BREAKER The Circuit Breaker (CB) is located at the same DIN rail as the CLU power connection terminal SURGE PROTECTION DEVICE The CF can include an optional Surge Protection Device (SPD) hardware to protect the CCU from over voltage. The SPD is located at the same DIN rail as the CLU power connection terminal EXTERNAL ALARM CONNECTION The system supports sending 3 external alarms. The alarms are sent by relays, connected as normally closed (NC). The external alarms will be trigged by: CLU failure: fan fail or controller fail Temperature: Internal temperature outside regulation window or external temperature outside system specification Door switch open Mains failure The following table shows the connection between the alarm signals and the alarm relays K1, K2, and K3. 18 2.2.5 BATTERIES The specified performance and warranties stipulate the usage of batteries that have been approved for the SiteStar Cabinet. The EQ Zone 4 Cabinet is a standard cabinet equipped with a factory installed optional EQ Zone 4 reinforcement. 20 2.3 CUSTOMER EQUIPMENT If customer equipment is to be installed into the cabinet, the heat dissipation must not exceed the values in Table 1. Notes: - If DC cabinets are used in hybrid sites, no additional heat load is allowed. - Cabinets needs to be placed in free air (minimum 1 meter to nearest object). - Sun screen must be used. - If equipment with heat dissipation over 20 W is installed, the system must be tested in the environment where intended to be used. - All configurations with additional active equipment is the responsibility of the system designer. Figure 14 Cabinet Clearance to Roof Minimum Recommended D 50 mm 200 mm AIRFLOW CLEARANCE Airflow clearance around the cabinet must be secured. 2.6 CLIMATE SYSTEM This section describes the climate system GENERAL The cabinet features a climate system including heating and active cooling systems. The system ensures maximum battery life in cold and warm climates. SiteStar can be set to power-up and operate in one of two modes: Normal Operational Mode Factory Test Mode Doc. 25 The mode is selected when the system is powered up based on the state of the door switch. Normal Operational Mode is selected if the door switch is open when the power is switched on and Factory Test Mode if the door switch is closed NORMAL OPERATIONAL MODE In Normal Operational Mode the system operates as follows: Power-up SW initiation Self test Module test Relay test Indicator test Operation Temperature regulation ECO Operation ECO operation (if available) Power-up When the system is powered up in Operational mode, it will automatically initiate the SW s start-up sequence. Self-test The system does a self test at start-up. The start-up sequence is up to 2 minutes long. During the self test, all components in the system are tested, i.e. compressor, fan, heater (if equipped), temperature sensors, etc. The yellow indicator is lit during the self test sequence. After the self-test is completed the system will go into operation mode, or indicate a fail. As the system goes into operation, the yellow indicator will go out, and the green Operational will be lit. Doc. No: D INS-01, Rev I Page 25 of 35

26 After approximately 1 minute in operation mode, Door Alarm is activated. The alarm is revoked 1 minute after closing the door. Operation After the system has completed the self test sequence the system will start to regulate the temperature inside. If necessary the system can be equipped with a heater. If so, the system will remain the optimum temperature for the batteries in sub zero temperatures down to -40 C. ECO Operation Some SiteStar systems have an ECO Operation mode. This mode will reduce power consumption up to 20%. Fail The following fails can be detected: Compressor fail Temperature sensor fail Fan fail Internal Heater fail (if equipped) Over temperature, inside Under temperature, Inside Over temperature, outside FACTORY TEST MODE Factory test mode is only used during factory test before delivery to site and should not be used when the system is installed on site due to long test cycle. In Factory test mode the factory technicians can carefully test the system temperature regulation function. No alarm indications or external alarms are activated in this mode TEMPERATURE REGULATION In normal operation mode the temperature can vary between 21 C and 24 C.
