3 INTRODUCTION 203RE is a new CE-approved series of controllers from Elmacron AB. In the series, there are instruments for ph, conductivity, Redox, Redox mv and temperature measurement/ control. 203RE is easy to program, calibrate and use. All parameters are entered/changed with the function keys on the front panel. The 2-lined display gives you running information during the setting modes. During normal operation the display shows actual ph, configured temperature compensation, control output status and alarm output status. To avoid unintended interruption during operation, the controller needs an accept to enter edit functions. DEFAULT SETTINGS When delivered, 203RE have the following default settings. 4 INSTALLATION Casing The casing is made of die-cast polystyrol with a transparent front cover that is closed with a snaplock. The connection terminals are located in a separate partition at the lower part of the instrument. At the bottom of the instrument there are six cable glands for the electrical connections. The protection class is IP65. Mounting The instrument is designed for wall mounting. Be sure that the instrument is mounted at a non-vibrating place. Mounting is done with two screws ( 7 mm). Fastening is carried out through the two mounting brackets at the rear side of the instrument. Electrical installation EN1L1 RE1 RE2 RE3 485 ELEC Pt100 REC It is recommended that each instrument is provided with a separate power switch. The electrode coax cable must be protected by a screen and may not be installed near power cables. Avoid extension of cables. The connection terminals are located in a separate space at the lower part of the instrument. Connection of the power supply Connect the power supply to terminal 1 (earth), terminal 2 (zero) and terminal 3 (live). Connection of dosing pumps and valves ( control outputs ) Connection to relay output 1 (RE1) is made through terminal 4 and terminal 5, connection to relay output 2 (RE2) is made through terminal 6 and terminal 7. Connection to an external alarm Connect alarm (RE3) to terminal 8 and terminal 9. Connection of the electrode Electrode cabling is a very critical part for the safety and accuracy in measuring. o o o o use a low noise coax cable between the electrode and the input terminal on the controller. low noise cables has, in general, a black semi-conductive sheath between the centrewire insulation and the shield. Remove this sheath. keep the cable away from power wires max recommended length of cable is 10 meters Connect the centre ( glass electrode ) of the coax cable to terminal 12 ( ELEC - ) Connect the shield ( reference ) of the coax cable to terminal 13 ( ELEC + ) 3

5 Connection of a temperature probe ( RTD Pt100 ) When automatic temperature compensation is configured, a Pt100-probe is connected to terminal 14 and 15. The temperature sensor has to be installed in the same solution being measured, close to the electrode either in-line or in the tank When manual temperature compensation is configured a 107 Ω-resistor is connected to the temperature input. Connection of a recorder Connect the recorder to terminal 16 ( REC + ) and terminal 17 ( REC - ). 4

6 SETTINGS Relay functions The relay function gives you several configuration possibilities to make it easy for you to adapt the controller to your specific process. To see what regulation parameters you have to choose is mentioned in the specifications to your pump, valve etc. which is to be connected to 203RE. First you make a choice between On/Off and proportional regulation. Under the proportional regulation You can choose between pulse and frequency related regulation Then You set the limits for relay 1 and relay 2; they can be set high/high, low/low, high/low and low/high. - Set Period Time 10. <+>< ><=> 6.75 ph R1 R2 A Running mode + Press <+> and <-> simultaneously to activate the setting menu. 7 Parameter settings Before starting up the controller the following parameters has to be set: temperature compensation (manual or automatic), temperature at manual temperature compensation, calibration points, alarm limits, shutdown at alarm and output settings ph R1 R2 A Running mode + Press <+> and <-> simultaneously to activate the setting menu. 8 CALIBRATION Preparation Take the electrode out of the measuring tank and clean it according to: Slightly dirty electrode: rinse with distilled water and wipe of carefully with soft paper. NOTE! It is very important that glass bulb and reference diaphragm are free from fat and contamination. Dirty electrodes can be cleaned in diluted hydrochloric acid ( 10 %) or, in presence of fat/oil, wash with a grease solvent, alcohol etc. After cleaning, immerse the electrode in a beaker with tap water for about 2-5 minutes to stabilize. Cal <C> Choose <+> to calibrate at the second calibration point. + Immerse the electrode in the second buffer (in the example ph10) Cal <C> C is blinking. Wait until the value on the display is stabilized. + Confirm with<+> Calibrate[ok] If calibration at a next point is wanted, press <+>. Otherwise press <=> to end the calibration. + Rinse the electrode membrane carefully with distilled water. Cal <C> Choose <+> to calibrate at the third calibration point. 7

9 + Immerse the electrode in the third buffer (in the example ph4) Cal <C> C is blinking. Wait until the value on the display is stabilized. + Confirm with<+> Calibrate[ok] Rinse the electrode membrane carefully with distilled water before putting it bank in the measure tank. = Confirm and return to main menu with <=> NOTE! If E is shown after <C> E, the uncalibrated value is outside the limits to perform a calibration. Investigate the buffer solution or replace the electrode and try again. 8
