1 Installation and User Instructions The Informant is a self-contained alarm and logging device that uses the cellular phone network. Text message alarms are sent up to five cell phones. Events are logged to a cloud server with easy user access. 4 User Controls Wall-Mounted Installation Conduit to Controls Display The backlit display has two modes: Normal: four data panels constantly scroll Command: the display shows responses to menu changes Alarm Horn Keypad Letter keys are used for commands Number keys are used to enter phone numbers and values such as temperature alarm settings Sensors Temperature Sensor: Two wire, observe polarity. Use 22awg, stranded wire. Up to four can be used. Has 24 leads. Up to 200. Combo Temperature and Humidity Sensor: Three wire, observe polarity. Use 22awg, stranded wire. Up to four can be used. Has 24 leads. Door Sensor: Magnetic security-type sensor, two wire. Use 22awg wire. Normally closed or normally open can be used. Leak Detector: Typical sensor shown. Use 22awg wire. Once the door is opened an internal timer in the Informant starts running. If the door is closed promptly the lights are shut off. If the door is opened too long a series of events begins as described in the table below. Additionally, an internal panic button can over-ride the timer. The external Panic Button Resert cancels the Internal Panic Button. Depending on the type of building, the antenna can be mounted above the conduit. In all-metal buildings, a roof-mounted antenna will be required. 10 Entering Cell Phone Numbers Change Cell Phone Numbers #1 1)New 2)Del Send Test Message Send Test Message Select numbers 1-5 This screen permits five cell phone numbers to be entered, changed or deleted. In the event of an alarm, all the numbers are sent a text message alarm. Be sure to send a test message to every phone number entered. 11 Setting Contact On/Off Alarms and Delay The on/off contact sensing is set up in the sub-menu. See page 13 for more info on setting those. Using Delays Many delays are used on switch and contact functions. Temperature: delay alarm to ignore defrost cycle. Typically minutes. Door Position: delay alarm to allow door to be open for a period. Typically 5 minutes. Refrigeration Leak: delay to assure that genuine leak is present. Typically 15 minutes. Set delays carefully. A short delay causes false alarms, a long delay may mask problems. 11

12 Setting Temperature Alarm Limits and Delay (Shortcut: Press A and scroll down to 5.) 5)Temp Alarms 6)Temp Alarm Delay This screen sets the trip values of temperature. To automatically cancel the alarm the value must be greater (or less) than the trip value by one degree. The primary purpose is to ignore defrost cycles where the temperature can routinely and briefly jump to 20degF higher than normal. Press D for Done 12

13 Set Password Set Password Enter key code The keypad is disabled if the password is not entered. CAUTION: if you forget your password, you will have to call tech support to have an upload of the firmware done. There is no back-door method. 14 City Power Alarm Informant Circuits City Power Loss of city power is a critical failure. The Informant contains two Lithium batteries that automatically keep the Informant running when city power fails. ack-up atteries R123) Auto Cutover Circuit 24vac Transformer When power fails, text message alarms are sent and the event is logged. There is a oneminute delay before alarming to ignore transient power spikes of black outs. Testing the City Power Alarm. Unplug the wall transformer from the power receptacle. The display should go dim as the unit starts to conserve battery power. After two minutes, you should receive a text message alarm. There are two internal batteries that keep the Freezer Alert running when city power is lost. The batteries last for 24 hours or more. When they are exhausted, they must be replaced with CR123A cells which are available at Walmart. Battery Low Alarm Battery Low Alarm Off 1) Enable When the device cannot receive ity ower, it reverts to long-live batteries (CR123 Lithium) If ity ower remains off for longer than 20 hours the unit will send an alarm that it will soon be completely inactive. 14

UDP (Cloud Server) Logging UDP Logging Off 1) Enable Enabling this function starts the device sending hourly logs and alerts to a server database. Call Tech Support to se up your user name and password. SMS (Text Messaging) SMS Alarms Off 1) Enable The is the principal alarm method. This function is normally used when setting up a device and is otherwise left on. 15

16 Daily Message Daily Message Off 1) Enable This function lets you know that the device is in contact with a cell tower and can receive the system time from it. It will send a daily message at noon to confirm its operational status. Keypad Lock Keypad lock Off 1) Enable Use this mode to block accidental setting of passwords in the Main Menu. The default password to enable the keypad is 1. Alarm Buzzer Silent Mode Alarm Buzzer Off 1) Enable Silent Mode Turns off the alarm buzzer. The device beeps when sending logging data and SMS Alarms.Enabling this function stops the beeping. Maintenance Mode Maintenance Mode Off 1) Enable This mode permits alarms from being transmitted to all five cell phone numbers. In this mode, alarms are only sent to the first cell phone number. An hourly warning message is sent. After 8 hours, Maintenance Mode is automatically discontinued. 16

17 Add Wired Sensors Menu Up to four temperature sensors can be used. Each sensor has a unique (internal) address and must be discovered by the unit in order to be displayed. 18 Accessing Graphs and Logs If UDP logging is enabled, the Informant sends hourly the high, low and latest values of all sensors and alarms. The data is sent to a Cloud server automatically. Several fields on the server can be customized. No special software is required. Steps to accessing your Informant s stored data: 1. Open a Internet browser connection using Explorer, Chrome, Firefox. 2. Type in the address panel. Do not use www 3. Enter your user name and password. Top Menu - Summary Graphs and Menu Red line: highest value Blue line: lowest value During logging period. This field can be changed. 18
