2 Occupancy Sensors Just Make Sense As industry standards continually change to mandate energy savings in all types of buildings and facilities, dependable occupancy sensors in luminaires must be available for building owners and facility managers. Occupancy sensors provide the ability to control luminaires independently by reducing light output based on movement within a space, thus saving up to 80 percent energy. Meeting Standards The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc. (ASHRAE) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) jointly sponsor the ASHRAE/IESNA Standard , Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings requiring lighting in most indoor spaces to be shut off or reduced by at least 50 percent within 30 minutes after all occupants have left the space. Additionally, California Building Standard Commission (CBSC), Title 24, Section 130 states, Lighting installed in corridors and stairwells shall be controlled by occupant sensing controls that separately reduce the lighting power in each space by at least 50 percent when the space is unoccupied. The occupant sensing controls shall be capable of automatically turning the lighting fully ON only in the separately controlled space and shall be automatically activated from all designed paths of egress. These standards and mandates must be considered when lighting commercial spaces. 3 Millenium OS The Science of the Space Stairwells & unoccupied public spaces By understanding the Science of the Space, we recognize that dimming is important in stairwells and other areas unoccupied a majority of the time. Our goal was to give you more than just peace of mind in designing a luminaire specifically for these areas. The result is Kenall s Millenium OS luminaire providing a concealed high-frequency Doppler occupancy sensor, optimized optics, enhanced energy savings and Kenall s best warranties. 3 Did you know? According to the International Facility Management Association, stairwells are trafficked only 3-5% of the average day. The busiest corridors in commercial applications are vacant approximately 50% of the time according to the California Lighting Technology Center. Payback period of occupancy sensing retrofits is possible in as little as 6 months, depending on the level of occupancy and energy savings potential of the area controlled. IP65 ADA IP65 UL Certified IP65 per IEC ensures that the enclosure is dust-tight and protected against jet streams of water from any direction without any harmful effects. ADA Compliant Although ADA is not specific to lighting, it does impact fixture design by creating standards for wall sconce projection space and hanging light clearance. Section 4.4 of the ADA states that objects projecting from walls with their leading edges between 27" and 80 above the finished floor shall protrude no more than 4" into walks, halls, corridors, passageways or aisles. Kenall s High Abuse luminaires are designed and built to take exceptional physical punishment. When installed according to our instructions, Kenall will repair or replace any unit rendered inoperable due to physical abuse for the life of the product installation. 10 Year Warranty Qualifying Kenall products shall be warranted by Kenall, for a period of ten (10) years from the date of manufacture, to be free of defects in workmanship, materials, lamps and internal power regulation components against defects that result in an excessive lumen depreciation, as defined by L70 Lifetime (L70) or when at least 10% of the discrete sources fail to illuminate.
