Chubb Monitoring Solutions
A fire or security system is only as effective as the response that it initiates. A comprehensive security / life safety solution must include effective alarm monitoring. It s how alarm conditions identified by your on-site system are turned into an appropriate notification, a dispatch of authorities or other prescribed action. This plays a major role in limiting the impact of unwanted events on both people and property, helping to control losses of all types and to minimize interruptions in normal activity. Signals That Can Be Monitored Chubb Monitoring Centres are capable of receiving and processing a varied range of alarm signals including: Intrusion Detection Temperature Moisture / Water Level Tamper (signal indicating unauthorized interference with the alarm panel) Vibration Panic Hold-up Man-down Medical Emergency Supervisory (lost connection to Monitoring Centre) Sprinkler water flow Sprinkler supervisory/tamper Fire alarm panel - fire, trouble, supervisory Fire, Heat, Smoke

Communication Technologies A number of options exist to connect your local system(s) to the Chubb Monitoring Centres. Common communication technologies include: Digital alarm signals are transmitted across normal telephone lines. Cellular alarm signals move through established cellular networks, typically used as a backup to digital or IP IP (Internet Protocol) alarm signals are transmitted over the internet or private networks. IP connectivity allows the line to be polled or supervised to enhance the security of your connection to the Chubb Monitoring Centre. A Chubb sales professional can assist you in selecting the most appropriate approach for your application.

The Value of a Monitored Solution In an emergency situation, seconds count. That s why proper monitoring of your fire and / or security solution is so important. A fast and appropriate response can avoid damages, losses or even save lives. A comprehensive monitoring solution, which may include extended remote video monitoring services such as video verification of alarms, will alert our highly trained Chubb team of operators of an on-site issue or potential risk. This allows concerns to be addressed before they escalate. Building codes often mandate monitoring solutions certified by Underwriter Laboratories of Canada (ULC) as a condition of occupancy. Similarly, insurers can require proof of monitoring before offering preferred rates. Monitoring is recognized as an essential part of a security and life safety solution.

Standards and Certifications Underwriter s Laboratories of Canada (ULC) is an organization incorporated in 1920 by the Canadian federal government. It maintains and operates laboratories and certification centres for the examination, testing and classification of devices, construction, materials and systems for a number of industries including monitoring facilities and processes. ULC is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as a certification organization, a testing organization and a standards development organization under the National Standards System of Canada. Chubb's Fire Signal Receiving Centres, Satellite Centres, and Service Centres are ULC listed and therefore authorized to issue ULC certificates within their listing category. A ULC certificate provides an increased level of assurance of compliance with the applicable Codes and Standards, which include defined performance criteria for quickly identifying and responding to risks to personal safety and /or property damage. The National Building Code of Canada requires notification of the fire department in conformance with CAN/ULC-S561-13, Installation and Services for Fire Signal Receiving Centres and Systems for: A single stage fire alarm system installed in a building of assembly occupancy that has an occupant load more than 300. A fire alarm system that includes waterflow-indicating devices. A 2-stage fire alarm system. The National Fire Code of Canada requires that existing fire alarm systems in the secured premises be inspected and tested in conformance with CAN/ ULC-S536, and that Central Stations be maintained in conformance with CAN/ULC-S561. Those ULC Standards, in turn, include requirements for the inspection and testing of the monitoring of these secured premises. Preexisting systems installed prior to the original introduction of CAN/ULC-S561 in 2003 may be eligible to be grandfathered if compliant with the previous requirements of ULC-ORD-C Please contact Chubb for further information on CAN/ULC-S and local building codes. Please note that some provinces and territories either adopt or adapt the National Building Code of Canada and National Fire Code of Canada, while other provinces and territories, including BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec, publish their own codes based on the model national codes. Also, local Authorities Having Jurisdiction may have additional requirements. Since requirements may vary in different jurisdictions throughout Canada, we recommend that you refer to the applicable codes in your region.
