5 SECTION 1 GENERAL 1 Introduction 1.1 Objective The objective of this class programme (CP) is to give a description of the type approval (TA) of Low voltage switchgear and control gear up to rated voltage 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC. For a description of the Society's type approval scheme in general and further information on general conditions and procedures for obtaining the Society's TA certificate, see the Society's document CP 0338 Type approval scheme. The procedures and requirements described in this CP are applicable for obtaining the Society's TA certificate based on requirements in: Rules for Classification of Ships RU SHIP Pt.4 Ch.8 Electrical installations the Society's offshore standard DNVGL OS D201 Electrical installations the Society's document CG 0339 Environmental test specification for electrical, electronic and programmable equipment and systems Section 1 Guidance note: This class programme is not applicable for obtaining EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED) certificates. Visit for information on MED certification. ---e-n-d---of---g-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e Scope This CP gives a description of the procedures and requirements related to documentation, design and type testing applicable for TA of Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear up to rated voltage 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC. This CP does not set the design requirements to the Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear up to rated voltage 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC. TA is based on compliance with design requirements given in the rules and/or other regulations and standards. The CP describes the applicable design requirements and how to document compliance with the requirements in order to obtain a TA certificate for the equipment. This includes, where relevant, technical requirements for how the type tests shall be performed. 1.3 Application TA of Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear up to rated voltage 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC equipment in accordance with this CP is not mandatory. A TA certificate in accordance with this CP will confirm compliance with the requirements in the rules as specified in [1.1]. The TA certificate will not confirm compliance with requirements in other parts of the rules. In case additional requirements in other parts of the rules shall be covered by the TA certificate, this shall be specified in the application for TA and will be stated in the TA certificate. 2 Documentation For TA of Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear up to rated voltage 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC the following documentation shall be submitted: main drawings for assembled switchgear or control gear. references to design standards, rules, specifications etc. specification of applied material for enclosure and insulation. test results (from tests already carried out, if any). 6 applicant's proposal to type test and routine test. documentation of reliability and endurance on board ships and offshore units, if any. special operational limitations. field of application: circuit breaker contactor motor starter control circuit device list of type designations for each variant. construction details: voltage power enclosure (IP) class explosion protection + certificate from recognised test laboratory. special properties, if any. test programme, which as a minimum includes the elements for type testing, Sec.3. the test programme shall refer to the relevant IEC standards for each test application for type approval form 90.01a. 7 SECTION 2 PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS The Low voltage switchgear and controlgear up to rated voltage 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC shall comply with the relevant requirements of the following publications in its latest edition including amendments. 1 Design requirements Rules for Classification of Ships as applicable Rules for High Speed Light Craft & Naval Surface Craft the Society's offshore standard DNVGL OS D201 as applicable the Society's document CG 0339 Environmental test specification for electrical, electronic and programmable equipment and systems IEC , Part 1: General rules. IEC , Part 2: Circuit breakers IEC , Part 3: Switches, disconnectors, switch-disconnectors and fuse combination units IEC , Part 4: Contactors and motor-starters. Section One - Electromechanical contactors and motor-starters IEC , Part 4: Contactors and motor-starters. Section Two AC semiconductors contactors and motor-starters IEC , Part 5: Control circuit device and switching elements. Section One - Electromechanical control circuit devices. IEC , Part 6: Multi-function equipment Control and switching devices Section 2 2 Test requirements The testing is divided into: visual inspection electrical/mechanical tests environmental tests. 2.1 Visual inspection By visual inspection, it is to be verified that the test sample is in conformity with the approved plans. 2.2 Electrical/mechanical tests The tests are to be according to the relevant parts of the following Table of tests, Sec Environmental tests Tests related to endurance and reliability of the product on board ships, e.g. vibration test, should take account of the environmental strains on board vessels.
