13 Chapter 1 Introduction This chapter explains the first steps required to get the RADview-EMS/TDM SNMP management system for OP-1553 up and running. It describes basic features of RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553, OP-1553 system architecture, and concepts of the graphical user interface. For the specific tasks possible with RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553, please refer to the subsequent chapters in this manual. This chapter covers the following tasks: Launching RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 Using the OP-1553 View window. 1.1 OP-1553 Hardware Overview OP-1553 is a stand alone unit which multiplexes up to 3 E3 or T3 channels over an STM-1 (SDH) or STS-3 (SONET) link. Two STM-1/STS-3 link modular cards are used for redundancy on the network side. Two hot swappable cards of main access and control are present, with 3 E3 channels (or 3 T3 channels) each, supporting hardware redundancy on the user side (where one is the active card and the second is the standby card). Both link cards are configured to be of the same medium type (either SONET or SDH). Both main access and control cards are configured to be of the same type (as both E3 or both T3). The OP-1553 can mix main access cards of DS3 with SDH links and main access E3 cards with SONET links. OP-1553 Hardware Overview 1-1

14 Chapter 1 Introduction RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 User s Manual OP-1553 Features 1.2 RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 Solution RADview-EMS/TDM provides a complete solution for monitoring and controlling OP The main features of RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 management are: Configuration of the OP-1553 device, including ETH port and CONTROL ports. Configuration, Fault, Diagnostics, and Performance Statistics of all E3/T3 channels, and the SONET/SDH link (port). 1.3 Launching RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 You begin using RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 by launching the OP-1553 View window. To open the OP-1553 View window: On the map, double-click the OP-1553 icon. The OP-1553 View window opens (Figure 1-1). You are now able to perform configuration and monitoring functions in the entire OP-1553 system. 1-2 Launching RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553

15 RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 User s Manual Chapter 1 Introduction OP-1553 View Window 1.4 Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) From the OP-1553 View window, you can configure and monitor all of the entire OP-1553 system elements. The OP-1553 View window (Figure 1-1) provides a dynamically updated graphic representation of the Main Access cards, channels, and ports in the OP-1553 system. The view includes the LEDs, interfaces and their operational and communication status. Figure 1-1. OP-1553 View Window The OP-1553 View window (Figure 1-1) consists of the following parts: Title Bar Main Menu Bar Main Toolbar OP-1553 System Status Bar. Title Bar Figure 1-2. OP-1553 Title Bar The title bar, located at the top of the OP-1553 View window, displays the IP of the device and its status: Connected /Disconnected. Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) 1-3

Click a menu to display all the items in that menu. Some of the menu items are general and some allow you to perform operations related to selected elements in the OP-1553 System. Menus are enabled or disabled in accordance with the selected element. Operations relating to a selected element can also be performed using pop-up menus invoked by right-clicking the mouse over the element. Toolbar Figure 1-4. OP-1553 View Window Toolbar The main toolbar (Figure 1-4), located just below the main menu bar, allows you to perform various operations related to the selected element in the OP-1553 System. Here you can select cards, channels, and ports to invoke menu commands to perform activities, such as configuring the OP-1553 system and monitoring the performance of the OP-1553 system. In addition, you can rightclick the mouse over the selected elements to invoke the menu commands. When you perform certain activities, such as clicking the System Information button or Zoom button, a dialog box opens (in a secondary window) on top of the OP-1553 View window. Status Bar Figure 1-6. OP-1553 Status Bar The OP-1553 status bar (Figure 1-6) appears under the OP-1553 System. The status bar displays various messages and events, such as "Ready", "Get Failed", "Channel Test is Running", "Working", and "Polling". Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) 1-5

19 Chapter 2 System Management This chapter discusses how to monitor and configure the OP-1553 system using RADview-EMS/TDM. Managing the system includes the following tasks: Selecting the system Viewing and modifying OP-1553 system configuration Viewing and modifying system information Viewing and modifying system parameters Resetting the system. Configuring SNMP Setting management access authorizations Viewing the OP-1553 About box. Additional system operations are discussed in the following chapters: Masking and listing alarms (see Fault Management on page 4-1) Polling the Agent, manual and periodic polling (see Performance Monitoring on page 5-1). To select the system: Click inside the OP-1553 View window, without selecting one of its channels or links. Ensure that no border surrounds any of the modem cards in the window. Viewing and Modifying System Information RADview-EMS/TDM allows you to view and modify the system information of the OP To view and modify the OP-1553 system information: 1. In the OP-1553 View window, select the system (as described in Selecting the System), right-click and select Configuration > System Information. Figure 2-2. System Information Dialog Box Note 2. Fill in the fields, as described in Table Click <Set> to implement the changes. When there is no communication with the Agent, the system information is still enabled. Therefore, to obtain details on how to get assistance, refer to the Name, Contact, and Location fields. Viewing and Modifying System Configuration 2-3

System Information Parameters Parameter Description Object ID Name Contact Location System Up Time Date Time Number of Interfaces Description of the device, including the full name and version identification of the device s hardware type and software operating-system. System identification number. Name of the responsible person to contact when there is a problem. Format: String of up to 12 characters. By convention, this is the node's Product name. Textual identification of the contact person for this managed node, together with information on how to contact this person. Format: String of up to 32 characters. Physical location of the contact person. Format: String of up to 32 characters. Length of time the system has been running. Format: X days HH:MM:SS Current date. Format: YYYY-MM-DD Type a date or click the adjacent arrow to display an calendar from which you can select a date. Current time. Viewing and Modifying General Parameters To view and modify general OP-1553 system parameters: 4. Internal: Internal clock of the device Station: Station clock card This option does not appear when the station clock card does not exist and/or its status is not valid. LBT: Loop back timing This option does not appear when the test result on the active link is LLB (Local Loop Back) (16). Indicates the frequency of the station clock when the source is "Station". NA (DS1) (E1) This option is enabled only when the Clock Source is "Station". Viewing and Modifying Link Redundancy Parameters To view and modify link redundancy parameters: 1. If you want to flip back to Link A after it was corrected, set the Redundancy Mode to Off or Auto. For certain possible events, the flip to the other link might not be performed. Resetting the OP-1553 device includes the following tasks: Resetting the system configuration Resetting the system hardware configuration. Resetting System Configuration Resetting the system configuration resets the system and reactivates the initialization processes with the updated configurations. To reset system configuration: 1. In the OP-1553 View window, select the system (as described in Selecting the System), right-click and select Configuration > System Commands > Reset Config. Figure 2-6. Reset Configuration Confirmation Message Dialog Box 2. Click <OK> to reset. Resetting System Hardware Resetting the system hardware resets the Agent. To reset hardware configuration: 1. In the OP-1553 View window, select the system (as described in Selecting the System), right-click and select Configuration > System Commands > Reset HW. Figure 2-7. 28 Chapter 2 System Management RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 User s Manual 2.3 Configuring SNMP RADview-EMS/TDM allows you to view and modify SNMP settings; enabling you to specify management stations that can receive OP-1553 traps. In the OP-1553 Manager List, you can enter up to ten IP addresses of the relevant management stations. To view or specify management station IP addresses to which to send traps: 1. In the OP-1553 View window, select the system (as described in Selecting the System), right-click and select Options > Manager List. Figure 2-8. Manager List Dialog Box 2. To set management access authorizations: 1. In the OP-1553 View window, select the system (as described in Selecting the System), right-click and select Options > Access. Figure 2-9. 31 Chapter 3 Port Management This chapter discusses how to manage OP-1553 channels and ports using RADview-EMS/TDM. Managing channels includes the following tasks: Selecting the channel Viewing and modifying channel parameters Viewing and modifying channel user information. Basic tasks include: Polling the agent, manual polling Managing statistics Setting the polling interval for current statistic updates Resetting all statistics Polling the agent updates the status of the device components. You can execute manual polling of the OP-1553 system. Manual Polling You can execute manual (immediate) polling using the Poll Agent command, which immediately triggers an agent to update the status of the device components. To manually poll and update the status of the device components: In the OP-1553 View window, select the system (as described in Selecting the System), right-click and select Configuration > System Commands > Poll Agent. The status of the device components is updated immediately. Managing Statistics RADview-EMS/TDM OP-1553 allows you to view statistics in table and graph formats. To set the polling interval for current statistic updates: 1. In the Polling Interval dialog box, click the up or down arrow to select the desired polling interval. Possible values for polling interval are: 5, 10, 15, 60 seconds.
