High value design is fast becoming the driving force for innovation. It enables increased productivity, agility and integration across the supply chain and throughout the entire product life-cycle. Radical and novel approaches to design are facilitated by advances in materials and manufacturing technologies, also major strengths of the South West. Companies in the region ensure that the South West and the UK remain at the forefront of global aerospace University of Bath through major international research and development programmes. Newquay Cornwall Airport has been shortlisted as the potential location for the UK s first Spaceport with horizontal launches in 2020, and the UK s Satellite Applications Catapult has established a South West Centre of Excellence.
