4 INDUSTRIAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS Oil & Gas Camera Stations, Monitoring & Recording Systems COEX camera stations for Harsh and Hazardous applications in potentially explosive environments are manufactured from the highest grade, corrosion resistant, 316L stainless steel Developed and manufactured in the UK, our explosion-proof housings, pan & tilt units, telemetry and fibre-optic enclosures are certified to the latest CENELEC directives and conform to all ATEX approvals. Synectics also operates a quality system to BS EN ISO 9001, ensuring all products are manufactured to the required standards. Oil & Gas Applications Global energy demand is expected to rise by as much as 50 percent, over the next 25 years. This, combined with the depletion of existing oil and gas reserves, means extensive exploration and production activities by the oil and gas industry in the years to come, and 75 percent of this increased requirement is expected to come from the developing world. Our camera stations and systems are providing oil and gas companies with the freedom to find, develop and manage assets, and to deliver supplies without interference. As exploration and drilling activities move into increasingly remote and hostile locations, so the need for continuous security and remote surveillance will increase. Synectics can also be found working with major Systems Integrators, designing and building turnkey CCTV and communications systems. All based on a fully integrated approach, designed to minimise ongoing costs. Case Study Kizomba, Nigeria Following its success with the $3.4 billion Kizomba A project, in Nigeria the largest deepwater oil development off the West African coast Synectics was awarded the 2nd stage project. For Kizomba B, Exxon Mobil/HHI required total coverage of critical process areas, to ensure safe operation of the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility, including flares. The system is monitored 24 hours a day by Exxon staff, from a purpose built system control area aboard the FPSO and from the SWHP. At a total cost of $335,000, the system includes 18 fully-functional COEX FECH3 camera stations. Robust, versatile and cost-effective, the FECH camera head is ideal for most types of hazardous environment. All cameras feature our unique FEWS2 camera wash system ensuring perfect camera visibility at all times, under any conditions, at the touch of a button. Future expansion plans, already in progress, include the Kizomba C FPSOs (Saxi Batuque and Mondo), for which Synectics has been awarded the CCTV surveillance contracts. 2

5 Drilling & Production Platforms Case Study Sarawak, Malaysia Having secured the contract from Emerson, Synectics has completed a high-tech Ex CCTV system for Shell aboard their Sarawak oil platform, situated off the Malaysian coast. Synectics liaised closely with the operators of the Shell Sarawak platform, to realise the ultimate system specification for their requirements. Camera positions were chosen to comprehensively cover all operational decks and the busy landing area - providing constant health and safety monitoring in these sensitive areas. At a total cost of $400K, the installation includes Synectics industry standard COEX EExd certified FECH camera stations, specifically developed for this type of hazardous area application. The camera housings are equipped with EExd certified, FEPT hazardous area pan & tilt units. The FECH camera head is ideal for surveying and monitoring the production processes at the Sarawak oil platform and is proven in installations around the world, including petrochemical plants, offshore platforms and other marine environments. Case Study Basin Cliff Head, Australia At a total cost of $300k, Roc Oil awarded Synectics the contract to supply seven COEX FECH camera stations, covering all the key operational sectors, as well as the landing area of the facility the first to be developed in the Western Australia Basin Cliff Head, off the coast of Dongara. Following a review, a comprehensive CCTV system was also considered to be the most effective approach for the remote monitoring of the unmanned platforms at the site. The communications strategy, preferred by many of today s oil and gas installations, involves using a single network to interconnect all equipment voice, data, LAN and video. From the commencement of the project, Synectics liaised extensively with consultants Worley Parsons and Roc Oil management to provide a production monitoring and security tool in one installation, that effectively protects all Roc Oil s investments in the area. 6 INDUSTRIAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS Marine Camera Stations, Monitoring & Recording Systems IP67 rated, for use in the most extreme weather conditions, COEX marine camera stations operate 24 hours a day Developed and manufactured in the UK from high grade 316L stainless steel, our rigid and robust Marine camera stations can be tailored for all types of shipping, from Oil tankers and LPG/LNG carriers to Cargo and Container vessels, to Cruise ships and Car ferries. Marine Applications COEX camera stations are relied upon to ensure the safety and security of ships crews and port personnel across the globe, controlled centrally from reliable rack mounted control systems. Synectics also supports a wide range of services to help ship owners and port operators meet the mandatory requirements of the ISPS code including assistance with Security Assessments, Planning, Training and Compliance. In harsh, hostile and the most adverse sea conditions where extremes of temperature and environment make human observation difficult Synectics keeps customers constantly in the picture. In addition to withstanding harsh environments, such as the heat and humidity of the Middle East and arctic frost in the North Sea, all COEX camera stations have been developed to withstand the typical shock and vibration associated with marine & ice breaker applications, and are electro-polished to resist salt corrosion and weathering. Case Study Daewoo LNG Carriers Financed and operated by the Japanese J5 consortium of MOL, NYK, K Line, Iino Kaiun and Mitsui, Synectics was awarded the contract to supply specialist COEX Ex and Marine CCTV systems to five 210,000 CBM LNG carriers, by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering. The five ships will carry Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) from the Ras Gas III Project (one of the world's largest gas fields) in Qatar to berths at South Hook and the Isle of Grain, in the UK. The new ship systems mean Ras Laffan product will be monitored by Synectics CCTV and control systems from production and transportation, through to its final destination via existing and new installations. Specifically developed to operate in this type of marine environment, the installation includes industry standard, EExd certified COEX FECH Camera stations to monitor the deck areas of each ship, plus COEX FECH thermal cameras to locate personnel or intruders on the ship's deck and as a navigational aid allowing the bridge to view other vessels, and even icebergs through thick smoke and fog, day or night. Our Marine cameras will also be employed to provide operators with an unparalleled view of both port and starboard sides combining thermal imaging for night and adverse conditions, with high-performance CCD camera imaging for ultra-clear, daylight surveillance. Synectics will also supply AV monitoring equipment to each ships engine room, allowing staff to detect and resolve any issues, quickly minimising the resulting downtime for these high-cost vessels. 4

7 LNG & LPG Carriers Case Study Tesma Oil Tankers Having won the contract to supply a total of six Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil owned vessels, with its COEX camera stations, Synectics has now completed systems aboard two of the oil tankers, navigating the Americas and Asia regions. The vessels will be operated by Tesma, an alliance network of ship management companies which services 80 vessels with full technical management deploying over 1,800 seafarers, on more than 100 vessels, worldwide. Each of the two completed vessels, Samco America and Samco Asia, has been equipped with COEX s unique MEPC Drome CCTV cameras, covering the main deck areas, and both the starboard and port sides. Images of the deck area are constantly monitored to ensure the health & safety of the crew, and are used to assist the captain in manoeuvring the vessel during docking procedures Case Study Hyundai Container Vessels Synectics has now delivered CCTV systems for four new 8,200 TEU container vessels, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The 2 systems, for YM Unity and YM Utmost, were installed and commissioned by a local team of Synectics engineers, prior to Unity s maiden voyage. The new ships will allow Yang Ming and its CYKH alliance partners to form a comprehensive service network, linking Asia with the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The U-type vessels have been designed in accordance with Yang Ming s strict environmental protection policy, and all four have been installed with the latest, advanced environmental protection equipment. Industrial Applications With on-shore petrochemical plants requiring the same level of detailed design and manufacturing excellence demanded of our offshore projects, Synectics is ideally placed to provide specialist advice and project management. While Oil & Gas and Marine installations form a staple part of our portfolio, we have also developed specialised CCTV systems for use in such areas as the cement and steel industries. These include water and air cooled CCTV systems, viewing solutions for monitoring hot spots in kilns and furnaces, Exd camera stations for temporary submersion, pressurised and vortex air-cooled camera stations for tropical, critical process, pump and plant monitoring as well as providing CCTV and control systems for a wide range of nuclear, thermal, aeronautical and petroleum applications. We also regularly provide CCTV solutions for major British organisations, including the massive CIS complex in Manchester, The North Wales Police force, as well as ports and industry the length and breadth of the country. Case Study BP Synectics continues its longterm technical partnership with BP, at the Easington and Dimlington refineries. Since taking responsibility for securing the sites in 2004, Synectics has installed new, leading-edge camera switching matrices and digital recording facilities, and provided and installed additional perimeter cameras. Synectics has also recently completed a comprehensive installation to secure the sensitive Dimlington storage area, accompanied by an increase in digital recording capacity. 6

9 Oil & Petroleuim Refineries Case Study Powergen CHP Owned by PowerGen CHP, and operated by ConocoPhilips, ICHP is a world-class, flagship electricity generating station. Opened in November 2004, it is one of the largest, cleanest and most efficient power stations of its type in Europe. Costing 350m to build and utilising 500 construction workers, the completed plant is operated by a staff of only 40 people. CHP is as technically innovative as it is environmentally friendly, and continues a long tradition of Synectics Industrial Systems involvement with the Humber Bank Refineries and associated Industries. Synectics has supplied this prestigious plant with their entire turnkey CCTV surveillance solution, including multiple, strategically located cameras, in hazardous areas, plus digital recording for viewing and control at multiple locations. Case Study Scottish and Southern Electricity Awarded the contract to supply the Aldbrough Gas Storage Project, with a bespoke CCTV surveillance system, by the facilities main contractor AMEC, Synectics will be creating a bespoke software control system, whilst supplying a multiple camera system to monitor the critical plant processes assuring Health & Safety standards are maintained throughout the site. The specially designed system will be linked to the process alarm network, and will automatically stream video to the Aldbrough and Atwick control rooms, from any incident s nearest camera allowing the Scottish and Southern Electricity plc management team to make a quick evaluation and provide a measured response. The CCTV camera images will also be archived, via the latest digital hard disk recording system in each control room. When completed, the Aldbrough Gas Storage project will be connected to the National Transmission Network and store its gas in naturally formed underground caverns, for re-export back into the national grid.
