1 Fire Safety Installation Instructions Model SMB- Main Control Board OPERATION The SIEMENS Model SMB- board in each MXL-IQ System controls operations and monitors input device identity, network communication, and operator commands that are entered through the MKB- Annunciator/ Keyboard. The SMB- also provides two analog loop driver circuits. Each ALD loop can be used as Class B or Class A and can monitor and control up to 60 intelligent devices as well as programmable device relays. The SMB- module is field programmable. It is equipped with two programmable Class B (Style Y) or Class A (Style Z) notification appliance circuits. Each circuit can activate up to.5 amps of audible or visual notification appliances. The module also has auxiliary relays for the external monitoring of Common System Alarm and Common System Trouble. The SMB- includes a built-in battery charger and transfer circuit. The charger is microprocessor controlled and incorporates a brownout circuit that switches the System to standby batteries during the loss or reduction of the primary source AC. The System can display the real time battery voltage, the AC voltage, and the charger current on the MKB- alphanumeric display. It also has a amp, VDC output that powers CZM-/B6 modules. INSTALLATION Remove all system power before installation, first battery and then AC. (To power up, connect the AC first and then the battery.) Installing the SMB- Board Unpack the SMB-. Inspect the module, looking for such things as integrated circuits (ICs) not firmly seated in their sockets, bent IC pins, connectors not properly installed, dirt, packing material on the board, etc. The installation kit consists of the following items: Two #6 nuts Four #6 screws Six #6 washers Six #6 lockwashers Eight metal jumpers Three resistors Battery cable with wire To install the SMB-:. Place the SMB- over the two studs in the upper right-hand portion of the backbox, as shown in Figure.. Secure in place using the hardware provided. Be sure the screws and nuts are tight, as they provide the earth ground connection for the SMB-. 3 CONFIGURATION The SMB- has two jumpers jumper P5 for MNET and jumper P7 for Real Time clock which must be set for proper operation. Refer to Figure for the location of the jumpers. MNET Set jumper P5 on the SMB- to the S position. Real Time Clock The second jumper on the SMB- is P7 which must be set for the real time clock to operate properly. Move the jumper to the on position to provide backup battery power to the real time clock. Note: The real time clock requires MXL-IQ firmware Revision 5.0 or higher to operate. Internal Wiring To complete the SMB- internal wiring connections, follow the steps below, skipping those that do not apply to your particular MXL-IQ System.. Main Power Connections Primary power for the SMB- is provided by the MPS-6/-6W or MPS-/-W. Both of these mount in the lower right-hand corner of the MXL-IQ enclosure. Follow the instructions below for the appropriate power supply. MPS-6/-6W Install the MPS-6/-6W (See MPS-6/-6W Instructions, P/N 5-090/W). With the AC mains disconnected, connect the MPS-6/-6W power cable to P of the SMB-. Be sure that the jumper assembly is installed in P of the SMB-. If this jumper is not installed, the SMB- will detect a permanent AC fail or indicate auxiliary power voltage is low. MPS-/-W Install the MPS-/-W (See MPS-/-W Instructions, P/N /W). Remove and discard the jumper assembly installed in P of the SMB-. Disconnect the AC mains. Connect the MPS-/-W power cable to P of SMB-.. Battery Power Connection The SMB- kit includes a battery cable (wiring harness). Use the harness to connect the V backup batteries to P of SMB-.. MOM-/ Optional Module Card Cage There are two connections between the SMB- and the MOM-/ board. a. If the SMB- is replacing an SMB-, then the cable to P (P is limited to amps) can be installed to the SMB-, or the SMB- can be wired as shown in Figure. The SMB- allows the use of either an MPS-6/-6W or an MPS-/-W. TB terminals and 5 supply V to the MOM- with a maximum of 6 amps (MPS-6/-6W) or amps (MPS-/-W) available. This output must be derated by the total current drawn from NAC (.5A max), NAC (.5A max) and the CZM-/B6, power (A max) on the SMB-. Connect TB, and 5 on the SMB- to TB6, and on the MOM-/. Refer to Figure for the wiring diagram. b. The second connection provides 5V power and the communication interface. Connect the 8-wire ribbon cable from P7 on the MOM-/ to P6 on the SMB-. Refer to Figure. MOM- P7 TB6 CABLE P/N SUPPLIED WITH MOM- 5 P6 AWG MIN 6A MAX (MPS-6) A MAX (MPS-) 8- VDC NOT POWER LIMITED TB SMB- Figure MOM- V Connection
4 Field Wiring (Refer to Figure ) The screw terminals for the field wiring circuits are located on the left and right sides of the SMB-. They are labeled TB through TB5. The field wiring circuits available are: CZM-/B6 power Analog device loop Analog device loop Notification appliance circuit (Styles Y and Z) Notification appliance circuit (Styles Y and Z) Common alarm relay Common trouble relay Style RS-85 Network (MNET) The following sections describe each circuit type and give the related instructions. Refer also to the wiring diagrams. Auxiliary Class B V Power Auxiliary power is available on TB5, terminals 9 and. The circuit is power limited per NEC Article 760 and is rated at amp, 8- VDC. This power supply is for use with the CZM-/B6 Remote Conventional Zone module. Figure shows Class B wiring. Class B wiring can be used to obtain the maximum of 0 CZM-/B6s. Each Class B wire run can support a maximum of 0 CZM-/B6s, ohms max. Multiple Class B power connections can be used provided you do not exceed the rating above (0 CZM-/B6s max and ohms per run max). For example, you could have four Figure CZM-/B6 Supervised Auxiliary Power Class B Wiring individual Class B power runs, for a total of 0 devices (6,,, and 7 CZM-/B6s), each of the four runs not exceeding ohms resistance. Refer to Wiring Specification for MXL, MXL-IQ and MXLV Systems, P/N revision 6 or higher, for additional wiring information. Analog Device Loops and (TB and TB) These two loops each support up to 60 analog type devices. To install a device for Class B, refer to Figure 5 and the electrical specifications. To install a device for Class A, refer to Figure 5 and the electrical specifications. Electrical Specifications for the Analog Device Loops. Electrical ratings: SUPERVISORY: 0 VDC peak, 66mA max ALARM: 0 VDC peak, 66mA max (60 devices in alarm). All wiring must be in accordance with Article 760 of NEC or the local building codes. Refer to Figure 5.. Only the list of devices in Table may be used. A maximum of 60 devices may be connected to a single loop.. No end of line device is required. 5. Both circuits are power limited per NFPA 70, NEC. Each detector, or group of detectors, requires a two-wire circuit of 8 AWG minimum thermoplastic fixture wire, enclosed in a conduit, or 8 AWG limited-energy shielded cable without conduit, if permitted by local building codes. 6. Total circuit resistance must not exceed 00 ohms. Maximum capacitance: 0.µF Line to Line. 0.8µF Line to Ground. 7. T-tapping is NOT allowed on Class A loops. 8. Refer to Wiring Specification for MXL, MXL-IQ and MXLV Systems, P/N revision 6 or higher, for additional wiring information.
