Move-In Tips & Information Recycling Housing provides recycling containers in each room. These recycling containers are considered a piece of furniture and should remain in your room upon check out. Recycling can be taken to any of our conveniently located recycling carts located in each parking lot near your Residence Hall. Osprey Fountains recycling can be taken to any of our conveniently located trash rooms across from the elevators on each floor. Please be careful not to put any materials into the recycling bins or carts that are not listed as recyclable. This could cause an entire container intended to be recycled to be disposed of as trash by the collecting vendor. A list of items that UNF recycles is pictured on the bins. 7

Preparing for Your Move to UNF Arrive during your requested time or later Follow parking guidelines - you will see UPD and signage directions Students have to have their UNF photo ID to check in Dress appropriately - it will be very hot, humid, and likely to rain. Be prepared. Keep hydrated. Be patient - over 3600 students and their families will be checking in Bring a dolly/cart to help transport items. 9

Your Room Condition Form (RCF) In your you received information about completing your detailed instructions on how to complete your Room Condition Form (RCF) upon move-in. Please note the Room Condition Form will not be visible in myhousing until the specified date which is the official start of your housing contract. You will have two weeks to complete this form to avoid being charged for damages at move-out. 11

Make sure you identify that you are cleared for move-in. Students not cleared for move-in will need to visit the Department of Housing and Residence Life in Building 14B upon your arrival to campus. Do not go to your move-in location if you are not cleared. Students cleared for move-in can report directly to the location specified on the UNF Housing website as your move-in location. Only cars that are unloading items will be permitted in the lots closest to housing. This impacts parking in all Housing specific lots during the move-in period. ALL guests assisting with move-in as well as cars that have been unloaded will need to park outside of the housing lots. Preparing for Your Move to UNF Do NOT arrive early. You will only be able to move-in during your scheduled time or any time after. 13 You need to have your Osprey1Card as your form of photo identification in order to move-in. Pay close attention to communications. Any last minute assignment changes and account issues will be communicated to you directly by . There are a limited number of moving carts available during move-in. It is suggested that you bring a dolly or hand truck to assist. There will also be volunteers available to assist during the move-in process. You will be able to recognize these volunteers by their Movers and Groovers highlighter yellow tank tops or lime-green t-shirts.

The guest network is designed for use by campus visitors (not affiliated with UNF). 1. After establishing an Internet connection and when you open a web browser, you will be asked to install SafeConnect. 2. It will check for the following: anti-virus and anti-spyware software installed and up to date Automatic operating system updates are enabled No Peer to Peer software/services running No router connected 3. When the requirements are met, access to UNF s network is permitted. For more details see Internet.aspx 17

Resident Handbook See our housing website for details at Residence Life > Living Well > Resident Handbook Roommate Tips Save yourself from misunderstandings on room expectations during the year. It is important to be able to communicate effectively in order to get the best results out of any situation. Here are some tips to get you and your roommate started off on the right foot: COMPLETE the Roommate Agreement Form during the 1st week. For Apartment-Style Suites: For all other rooms: Get a copy from our housing website (under Residence Life ) or through your RA. Sit down with your roommate(s) to discuss the topics on the form and come to a mutual agreement. Your RA will schedule a time to sit down with you and your roommates to discuss the topics. Ask the RA to meet with you and your roommate(s) to discuss the concern(s). The RA will help you and your roommate(s) to mediate or offer other resources that are available in Housing. 29

Television Service - Satellite Television Residents may bring their own TVs for use in their rooms. Digital cable service is provided in every room and apartment, but requires a digital cable-ready TV with a QAM tuner (and/or an analog TV with a digital-to-analog converter box) as well as a coax cable. Only digital TVs will work with UNF s television service. Most television set-up and/or channel search functions are accessible via the television s main menu function. Using your TV s remote control, you will need to perform channel auto discovery to select channels available. For more information see: unf.edu/housing/resources/satellite_tv.aspx. 31

Emergency & Crisis Information Safety Around Campus If you ever feel unsafe or have an emergency and need help around campus, locate one of the blue emergency boxes placed throughout the UNF campus and push the button; UPD will respond. For additional information regarding emergency, crisis and safety please take a look at the procedures tab under your residence hall located on the Housing and Residence Life webpage or visit UNF s UPD website at Severe Weather Severe weather includes thunderstorms, high winds, tornadoes and hurricanes. A weather watch indicates the possibility of severe weather. When a warning is issued, this means severe weather is likely and has been sighted in the local area. If the UNF Crisis Management Team decides to evacuate a residence hall(s), the director of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for notification of evacuation to campus residents. Campus residents who have special needs and/or need transportation to designated shelters will be assisted by Housing and Residence Life staff. Housing and Residence Life staff will notify residents in the safest and fastest way possible as outlined under the communications section. Relatives of campus residents are not notified by the Central Housing Office. It is the responsibility of campus residents to notify relatives when it is possible and appropriate. Fire & Facility Evacuation Each housing area is equipped with a fire alarm system that is regularly inspected. Smoke detectors are located in every room. Scheduled fire drills are conducted once a semester. In case of smoke or fire, the alarm will activate and resident-s must evacuate the building. 44

At the start of each semester/term, Housing and Residence Life educates students about fire alarm procedures by conducting fire drills. At least once during the first week of each term, a Fire Drill for each building occupied by residents is scheduled. All reports of drills, false alarms and actual fire situations are available for review by the Fire Marshall during periodic inspections. Fire Situation: If an individual discovers a fire in the building, that person should immediately pull the closest fire alarm If you hear or see the alarm in the building, you should walk to the closest emergency exit and exit the building Only use the stairwells, not the elevators, to exit the building Keep a safe distance from the building (i.e., across the street and away from traffic) Do not re-enter the building until a building supervisor (marked by an orange vest) or UPD has given the all clear 45 If you somehow become trapped somewhere in the building and cannot make it to an exit, please follow the following procedures: If you are in your room, open your window, remove the screen (if applicable) and hold a towel or sheet outside of the window to notify personnel that you are in that room If you are unable to make it to your room, try to find the nearest emergency exit If you have the ability, call 911 to let them know your location If you know of someone else who is trapped in the building, notify a housing and residence life staff member or emergency personnel immediately If you have any questions regarding any of these procedures, please contact the Department of Housing & Residence Life at (904) Fire Exit Maps Osprey Cove Osprey Hall Osprey Crossings Osprey Landing Osprey Village Osprey Fountains The Flats at UNF
