1 QUICK SOLUTIONS GUIDE FOR C TITLE 24 This guide is not intended to replace the code itself. It is meant to use as a quick solutions tool when complying with the new California Title 24 lighting requirements, that take effect January 1, 2014.

2 RTLED RTLED ncm PDT 9 B B ncm DC DZ RTLED RTLED B npodm 2P DX QUICK SOLUTIONS GUIDE FOR C TITLE 24 MULTI-LEVEL LIGHTING CONTROLS In areas larger than 100 sq. ft., luminaires must have at least four steps of control, or continuous dimming, depending on the lamp type (manual dimming controls must be provided for continuous dimming luminaires). Each luminaire shall have one of the following types of controls: MNUL CONTINUOUS DIMMING ND ON/OFF CONTROL per Section 130.1(a) LUMEN MINTENNCE as defined in Section TUNING as defined in Section UTOMTIC DYLIGHTING CONTROLS per Section 130.1(d) DEMND RESPONSE CONTROLS per Section 130.1(e) LUMEN MINTENNCE Maintains constant light output as LEDs/lamps age. Lithonia Smart LED luminaires are embedded with nlight technology utilizing the n80 option. The embedded control is factory programmed to under drive the LED luminaire to 80% of rated initial lumen output. This also reduces the input watts by starting wattage consumption at 80%. Throughout the life of the fixture the n80 option gradually increases the input wattage and maintains constant light output as LEDs age. With Lumen Management Energy is saved and light level remains consistent. 100% LIGHT OUTPUT Saved Energy POWER INPUT LIGHT OUTPUT 45W 80% 36W THOUSND OPERTING HOURS Without Lumen Management Energy is wasted and light level is inconsistent. 100% LIGHT OUTPUT Wasted Energy POWER INPUT LIGHT OUTPUT POWER INPUT 45W 80% 36W THOUSND OPERTING HOURS POWER INPUT cuity Brands Lighting & Controls provides the best solution to achieve this for every application. Our LED luminaires are 0-10V dimmable (continuous dimming) and are standard with embedded controls (nlight-enabled Controls). cuity Brands Lighting offers three different solutions depending on your application and budget: rchitectural Best, Specification Better, and General Purpose Good. MNUL CONTINUOUS DIMMING ND ON/OFF CONTROL nlight Smart but Simple digital solution to lighting controls, plug & play (Cat. 5). When combined with B Lithonia Smart LED luminaires it allows you to design and meet the above requirement. The design to the right utilizes Lithonia RTLED digital luminaires, which come standard with an embedded nlight device. While the occupancy sensor controls both and B rows together, the utomatic Dimming Photocell and Dual On/Off/Dim push-button WallPod (Switches) provide each row with separate daylight harvesting and control. OPTIONL TUNING Tuning the ability to set a maximum light level at lower level than full power. With nlight technology (embedded controls) it allows you the flexibility to set a maximum light level (max. foot-candle requirement) for any application. nlight allows you the flexibility to set the dimming range so it is lower and doesn t raise to full bright or a higher light level. Example: In a small office the light level requirement is 30 FC but when the luminaire is at full bright the light level raises to 50 FC. We are able to tune its maximum dimming range so it doesn t exceed 80%, this way we can maintain 30 FC and not exceed the maximum light level. 4 QUICK SOLUTIONS GUIDE FOR C TITLE 24 UTOMTIC DYLIGHTING CONTROLS The nlight photocell sensor provides both on/off and automatic dimming control for daylight harvesting applications. It monitors daylight conditions in a room, then controls the light to ensure that adequate lighting levels are maintained. DEMND RESPONSE CONTROLS pplies to all buildings >10,000 sq. ft. Lighting shall be automatically reduced in response to a demand response signal; so that the building s total lighting power can be lowered by a minimum of 15% below the maximum total lighting power Spaces that are non-habitable shall not be used to comply with this requirement Spaces with a lighting power density of less than 0.5 W/ sq. ft. shall not be counted toward the building s total lighting power cuity Brands Controls has the ability to comply with demand response by providing dry contact inputs or by tying into a building management system (BMS/BS). TRCK LIGHTING CURRENT LIMITERS Must be certified (also labeling requirements). Line voltage over-current panels recognized for track light. Lighting Control & Design s (LC&D) SilverBullet Current Limiting Panel, it comes in two enclosure sizes: compact size SilverBullet Mini 12 W x 12 H x 4 D (for 1-12 current limiters) and SilverBullet Standard 12 W x 18 H x 6 D (for 6-21 current limiters). OCCUPNCY CONTROLS Code requires partial on/off (high/low) occupancy sensor controls in addition to shut-off controls in: corridors, stairwells, warehouse aisles, open areas, library book stack aisles, per Section 130.1(c) 6. Lighting power shall be reduced by at least 50% when unoccupied Each warehouse aisle shall be controlled independently EXCEPTION: in warehouse aisles in which the installed lighting power is <=80% of the value allowed under the rea Category Method, occupant sensing controls shall reduce lighting power by at least 40% Code requires partial on/off (high/low) occupancy controls and are required instead of shut-off controls in: Stairwells and common area corridors which provide access to guestrooms and dwelling units of highrise residential buildings and hotel/motels; parking garages, parking areas and loading and unloading areas (130.1(c)7) Lighting power shall be reduced by at least 50% when unoccupied Same rules and exceptions as above <=500W per occupancy sensor in parking garages cuity Brands Lighting & Controls provides the best solution to achieve this for every application. pplication: Corridors/Hallways cuity Brands Lighting offers three different solutions depending on your application and budget: rchitectural Best, Specification Better and General Purpose Good. 6 QUICK SOLUTIONS GUIDE FOR C TITLE 24 SECURITY ND EGRESS LIGHTING Under the 2008 code, most buildings were allowed to keep approximately 15% of their full-lighting capacity on at all times for security and egress purposes. This allowance has been either eliminated entirely or drastically reduced under the new standards: Building areas that are not occupied 24/7 will no longer be able to leave lighting on during unoccupied periods Modest allowances for egress lighting remain, but egress lighting must be shut off outside occupied times along with general lighting Only offices will be allowed to maintain 24/7 lighting, but only along designated paths of egress, and at a reduced maximum of just 0.05 W / ft2, (versus 0.3 W / ft2 under the previous code) Emergency and Egress Control Layers 9!"::$!"#$%& '($ Switched on and off by occupants or by automatic controls Security / egress / emergency allowance, held on 24/7 9!"::$!";:$!"!:$ Offices 9!"::$!")$%& '($ Other Title 24, Part 6, 2008 Title 24, Part 6, 2013 Switched on and off by occupants or by automatic controls Egress allowance, held on during occupied hours, i.e. controlled only by the 130.1(c) shut-off system Egress allowance, held on 24/7 in offices only. This is NOT necessarily emergency lighting. cuity Brands Controls provides several solutions that makes manual control of emergency lighting safely accomplished. LC&D s SnapLink30 Normally Closed Latching Relays are UL 924 listed for emergency use; upon loss of normal power the relays will be held in the closed position. This solution allows you to use a 100% digital lighting control system. LC&D also offers Emergency Shunt Relays which are UL 924 listed; this allows use of standard wall switches/ dimmers to control the lights locally and shunts around wall switches, in order to turn on emergency lighting in the event of loss of normal utility power. nlight offers several Emergency Relays that are UL 924 compliant devices used to switch and dim luminaires powered via an emergency circuit. Ideal for use along side any nlight relay pack that controls a space s normal powered lighting. PLUG LOD CONTROLS In all buildings, both controlled and uncontrolled, 120V receptacles shall be provided in each private office, open office area, reception lobby, conference room, kitchenette in office spaces and copy room (130.5(d)) Controlled receptacles shall follow the automatic shut-off requirements for lighting (130.1(c)(1-5)) t least one controlled receptacle shall be installed within 6 ft. of each uncontrolled receptacle Controlled receptacles shall have a permanent marking to differentiate them from uncontrolled receptacles Red luminaires are security/emergency/ egress Red luminaires are emergency Green luminaires are egress, they cannot be shut off by occupants. Both must be shut off when the building or floor is unoccupied. Up to 0.05 W/sf may be left on in office buildings Title 24, Part 6, 2008 Title 24, Part 6, 2013 cuity Brands Controls provides several solutions that meet the plug load controls requirements. LC&D s SnapLink 30 Normally Closed Latching Relays are UL rated for plug load 120VC. The lighting control panel has inputs for occupancy sensors and makes it easy when controlling plug loads.
