1 Port of St Helens SIA Aircraft Hanger Scappoose, OR AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM REVISION 2 MARCH 12, 2018 Scope: Furnish and install foam and water fire protection system including underground entrance 5 outside building. A new fire supply line will be installed as part of the civil site work. The stated hydraulic requirements may not be currently available at the site location. A water system improvement project is in progress. This will increase available flow and reduce pressure loss. Reference Lower Columbia Engineering Code Summary Sheet 1. The Building Occupancy is S- 1, Group II Hanger. The following design has conceptual approval from the State Fire Marshall and BCD. The hanger will be protected in accordance with NFPA 13 and 409, with overhead wet sprinklers and low-density foam, floor level nozzle discharge, manually activated, as follows: 1. Overhead Sprinklers: Overhead sprinklers shall be 0.17 gpm/sf over 5,000 sf minimum area in accordance with NFPA Foam System: Shall be horizontal low expansion foam in accordance with NFPA Zones: Foam system zones shall cover the entire hanger area and consist of 2 to 4 zones where the required flow rate of 0.10 gpm/sf will be for coverage of one-half the hanger or approximately 14,000 sf. 4. Actuation: Manual activation is allowed per OSSC Exception 3. Manual activators will be provided at four building exits and include visual and audible zone reference at each activation station. 5. Flame Detection: Flame detection shall be installed in each zone which will activate an audible and visual alarm at each activation point and report to the local fire alarm station. During bid design, the contractor shall bring to the engineer s attention any information concerning additional hazards or potential acceptable alternatives to these design criteria.
