1 ADMINISTRATOR S WEEKLY REPORT # October 23 rd 29 th, 2017 CALLS FOR SERVICE This Week 2017 YTD YTD Change Fire % Aid % Other % Total % Last Week: Senior Staff attended the Washington Fire Chiefs presentation on Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) reimbursement program on Tuesday, October 24 th, in Olympia. On Tuesday, October 24 th, IT Manager Smith attended the Northwest Regional Roundtable meeting in Puyallup. Senior Staff held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, October 24 th, at Headquarters Station 31. On Wednesday, October 24 th, Fiscal Coordinator Boyle attended supervisory training at WCIA in Tukwila. Administrator Robertson attended the presentation by the Auburn YMCA Board of Directors on Wednesday, October 25 th in Auburn. PIEO Hawks attended the Fire Prevention Institute on Wednesday, October 25 th to Friday, October 27 th in Chelan. The State Auditor s Office commenced their annual financial and accountability audits on Thursday, October 26 th. VRFA Board Members & staff attended the annual Battlefield Addiction dinner auction on Saturday, October 28 th at Emerald Downs. 1

2 This Week: Administrator Robertson & South King Fire Chief Church, with respective EMS coordinators, met to discuss the Community Medical Technician program and the proposed modification for The meeting occurred on Monday, October 30 th at Headquarters Station 31. Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, October 31 st, at Headquarters Station 31. HR Manager Borden will attend the WCIA Human Resources Forum on Wednesday, November 1 st, in Tukwila. On Wednesday, November 1 st, IT Manager Smith will attend IT systems security & management training in Seattle. CFO Horaski & Fiscal Coordinator Boyle will attend Fraud Prevention & Internal Controls training sponsored by the Washington Financial Officers Association on Wednesday, November 1 st in Marysville. Interview will be conducted for the IT Systems Specialist position on Thursday, November 2 nd at Lea Hill Station 34. VRFA Staff will attend the annual Harvest Breakfast to benefit the Auburn Food Bank on Friday, November 3 rd at Grace Community Church. On Friday, November 3 rd, Administrator Robertson & DC s Swearingen and Olson will attend the Habitat for Humanity Flag Ceremony in Pacific. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Minor Cooking Fire: (Lakeland Hills) On Monday, October 23 rd at 5:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a stove fire. Upon arrival firefighters found the resident had extinguished the fire. Firefighters confirmed there was no further extension of the fire and minor damage was limited to the kitchen appliances and cabinets. Firefighters assisted the resident with contacting after hours maintenance. Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Tuesday, October 24 th at 2:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a three car accident on Highway 18. Firefighters arrived to find two cars involved and WSP officer stating that one occupant was trapped. Firefighters evaluated the patient, a middle age female, in the vehicle and determined her vital signs were stable and she was able to free herself, with assistance, from the vehicle. A private ambulance was requested for transport to MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital. 2

3 Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Wednesday, October 25 th at 8:10 a.m., firefighters assisted a young male at Auburn Mountain View High School who broke his hand after striking a car windshield. Patient was treated and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) by private vehicle. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Thursday, October 26 th at 11:03 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a middle age female found ill in the bathroom while at work. The patient was evaluated by firefighters and then transported to Saint Francis Hospital by private ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Motor Vehicle: (South Auburn) On Friday, October 27 th at 7:27 a.m., firefighters responded to a single car roll over. Firefighters were updated while enroute that this was a multi car accident with one car rolled over. Upon arrival they found five cars involved and one car on its side. There were three patients injured in the accident, including a teenage male, young adult female, and middle age female. The three patients were evaluated and the middle age female and teenage male were transported to MAMC by private ambulance; the other patient remained on scene with Auburn Police. Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Saturday, October 28 th at 9:17 a.m., firefighters assisted an elderly female with abdomen pain. Patient was evaluated by firefighters. Patient elected to have daughter drive her to local hospital by private vehicle. Aid Call: (South Auburn) On Sunday, October 29 th at 1:02 p.m., firefighters responded to an adult female with abdominal pain. The patient was transported to UW Medical Center via private ambulance. Training Division Activities: Year Weekly Year to Date 15,146 21,324 Blue Card Initial Incident Commander Course: Company officers and firefighters from South King County Fire Training Consortium departments who have completed the 50 hour on-line Blue Card Incident Management training now meet and complete an intensive 3 day class to complete their certification in the program. This course takes students through command modules and gives them experience in managing incidents involving residential, multi-family, commercial, strip mall, and big box building types. 3

4 4 th Quarter Haz-Mat Drill: Hazardous Materials Technicians from throughout the zone met in Federal Way for a 3-day team drill. During the drill team members were tasked with recognition and identifying hazardous material situations and how to mitigate biologic WMD incidents. The drill comprised both classroom and practical drill sessions. 5 functioning fire hydrants or proper access to site; fire lane to be established and maintained, and 24 hour fire watch and 2,000 gallon water tanker required on site for the next two weeks, until fire hydrants are in service Land Use & Plan Reviews: Land Use Plan Reviews completed this week: 0 Plan Reviews completed this week: 7 Land Use & Plan Reviews of note: Training: FMO staff took a NFPA Food Truck Webinar Fire Investigations Deputy Fire Marshals Casselman and Homan completed the third and final stage of a testing process for certification as Certified Fire Investigators through IFSAC. Follow-up continues on previous Investigations with APD. Public Education The B-shift, Station 31 crew, along with PIEO Staff completed the second half of the canvassing effort in the neighborhood of the July double fatality fire. After the two days, we visited over 120 residences, gave out 45 smoke alarms, 23 smoke alarm batteries and 14 fire escape ladders. Fourteen families received hands-on training and practice in the use of their ladders. Follow-up will continue with a few residents who were not at home for the canvas efforts. Fire escape ladders were donated by the First Alert Company, smoke alarms by Costco/World Vision and batteries by the Energizer Company. The A-shift, Engine 32 crew assisted with a kindergarten fire safety class at Buena Vista Elementary School. Change Your Clock, Change Your Smoke Alarm Battery banners were posted at our fire stations and the Fire Prevention Week Banners taken down. Reminder post cards were sent out to residents who have received free batteries from us, reminding them to change their batteries when they set their clocks back. Free batteries are offered again, thanks to a grant from the Energizer Company. 5

6 Social media posts were completed for our kindergarten visit to Buena Vista and a follow-up segment on ABC s 20/20 featuring Firefighter McAuley. Scout Night preparations continued. Planning and Logistics P&L received 2 apparatus and 4 facility/small tool maintenance requests. P&L staff met with Cintas Uniform Company to discuss a contract extension. AAA Pest Control is investigating pest damage at Station 33. Captain Connell and Thompson attended live fire training at SKCFTC. 6
