Peters (ret) Jersey City, NJ FD This course will guide the participant through the difficult process of specifying fire apparatus. We will cover justification, the use of NFPA 1901, conducting research, options and features, boilerplate information to protect the purchaser, converting manufacturer s specifications to your own, controlling frills, holding a successful preconstruction conference, the methods of performing a thorough final factory inspection and finally, delivery and acceptance of your new apparatus. 9:00 AM 4:30 PM NFPA 1911 Annual Inspection John H. Merrifield Spartan Chassis This course covers the maintenance, inspection, and testing of Emergency Fire Apparatus vehicles as described in NFPA 1911, Standard for the Inspection, Maintenance, Testing and Retirement of In-Service Emergency Vehicles. This course serves as both a refresher course for technicians performing annual inspections, as well as a prep course for those taking the EVT F1 exam. It is designed to cover the learning objectives outlined on the EVT F1 study guide. Every effort will be made to cover as many of the learning objectives as time allows. Students taking the EVT F1 exam should be prepared to review any learning objectives not covered due to time restrictions. It is recommended students have access to a printed or digital copy of the latest NFPA Standards book when preparing for the F1 exam.

Peters retired after 28 years with the Jersey City (NJ) Fire Department, having served the past 17 years as battalion chief/supervisor of apparatus. He has served as a voting member of the NFPA 1901 apparatus committee for several years and is the author of the Fire Apparatus Purchasing Handbook, the apparatus chapters in the Fire Chief s Handbook and numerous apparatus related articles. He is a member of the Fire Engineering and Fire Apparatus and Emergency Equipment editorial advisory boards and the FDIC executive advisory board. He is the recipient of the FDIC International 2015 Tom Brennan Lifetime Achievement Award. Chief Peters has written hundreds of apparatus specifications for his department as well as for consulting clients and has performed more than 300 apparatus factory inspections.

3 John Merrifield - Technical Trainer - Spartan Motors Inc. John joined Spartan s technical training team in He s taught fire truck chassis maintenance, repair, and EVT F1 and F4 prep classes throughout the US, Canada, and in South America. John began his career at Spartan in In his short 10 year, John has also worked as an end of line electrical technician on Spartan s military, motorhome chassis and fire truck production lines. He has also worked as an onsite Spartan OEM tech at Spartan s partner luxury coach builder facilities and spent over two years in Afghanistan providing onsite technical support and training to US Special Operations teams and their attached maintenance personnel on SOCOM specific MRAP vehicles built by BAE Systems in a joint venture with Spartan Motors Inc. Marshall Brooks began his career at Pierce Manufacturing in the aerial production department in He then spent two years in aerial assembly before moving to aerial testing. In 2000 Marshall started presenting aerial delivery training and in 2007 started presenting aerial maintenance training. He continues to do aerial testing along with his training responsibilities. Who Is WAEVT? The WAEVT was begun in 1967 as the Wisconsin Fire Equipment Mechanics Association, by a group of fire equipment mechanics that thought it would be a good idea to provide local, low cost training and share information for mechanics that work on fire equipment. In the 50 years since then, we have provided training and support for fire department and municipal technicians that work on emergency apparatus. In 2000 the name was changed to the Wisconsin Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians to more accurately reflect the changes to the field that modern technology has brought. Mission The mission of the WAEVT is to provide the best possible training locally at a low, affordable cost. EVT Testing EVT testing will be offered Thursday, May 24 at 3:00 PM. Registration with EVT Certification Commission is required. For more information and to register, go to EVT Testing is not included in the seminar fee.
