1 SECTION DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 GENERAL A. This Section includes the following: 1. Fire-alarm control panel. 2. Manual fire-alarm boxes. 3. Smoke detectors. 4. Heat detectors/ 135 degree high temp heat detectors. 5. Other initiating devices. 6. Notification appliances. 7. Magnetic door holders. 8. Remote annunciator. 9. Addressable interface, monitoring, and control devices. 10. Digital alarm communicator transmitter / dialer (on Drawings). 11. Field Charging Power Supply. 12. Elevator Control, Monitoring, and Recall. 13. Duct Detectors. 14. Signal Surge Suppression. 15. Smoke Evacuation interface. 1.2 DESCRIPTION A. Non-coded, addressable system, with multiplexed signal transmission, dedicated to fire-alarm service only. 1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. New fire alarm control panel shall be installed and operate per NFPA, and provide coverage for the renovated and all areas per Drawings. Design intent is that the new system totally interfaced and integrated with all applicable mechanical system, will provide the facility with complete and comprehensive fire alarm coverage satisfactory to the authority having jurisdiction, and meeting all codes. B. Comply with all requirements as dictated by the Savannah Chatham County Public School System guidelines. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. General Submittal Requirements: 1. Submittals shall be approved by authorities having jurisdiction prior to submitting them to Architect DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

2 2. Shop Drawings shall be prepared by persons with the following qualifications: a. Trained and certified by manufacturer in fire-alarm system design and stamped by a Professional Engineer with an active state license. B. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. C. Shop Drawings: For fire-alarm system. Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work. 1. Comply with recommendations in the "Documentation" Section of the "Fundamentals of Fire Alarm Systems" Chapter in NFPA 72, NFPA 13, NFPA 101, NFPA 70, ADA, all states codes and ordinates. 2. Include voltage drop calculations for notification appliance circuits. 3. Include battery-size calculations. 4. Include performance parameters and installation details for each detector, verifying that each detector is listed for complete range of air velocity, temperature, and humidity possible when air-handling system is operating. 5. Include plans, sections, and elevations of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning ducts, drawn to scale and coordinating installation of duct smoke detectors and access to them. Show critical dimensions that relate to placement and support of sampling tubes, detector housing, and remote status and alarm indicators. Locate detectors according to manufacturer's written recommendations. 6. Include floor plans to indicate final outlet locations showing address of each addressable device. Show size and route of cable and conduits. 7. Complete system block wiring diagram showing all panels, devices, interlocks, wiring, interfaces to existing, etc. 8. Refer to Fire Alarm Drawings for additional requirements. D. Delegated-Design Submittal: For smoke and heat detectors indicated to comply with performance requirements and design criteria, include analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation. 1. Drawings showing the location of each smoke and heat detector, ratings of each, and installation details as needed to comply with listing conditions of the detector. 2. Design Calculations: Calculate requirements for selecting the spacing and sensitivity of detection, complying with NFPA 72. E. Qualification Data: For qualified Installer. F. Refer to fire alarm drawings for further requirements. G. Field quality-control reports. H. Operation and Maintenance Data: For fire-alarm systems and components to include in emergency, operation, and maintenance manuals. In addition to items specified in Division 01 Section "Operation and Maintenance Data," include the following: 1. Comply with the "Records" Section of the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" Chapter in NFPA Provide "Record of Completion Documents" according to NFPA 72 article "Permanent Records" in the "Records" Section of the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" Chapter. 3. Record copy of site-specific software DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

3 4. Provide "Maintenance, Inspection and Testing Records" according to NFPA 72 article of the same name and include the following: a. Frequency of testing of installed components. b. Frequency of inspection of installed components. c. Requirements and recommendations related to results of maintenance. d. Manufacturer's user training manuals. 5. Manufacturer's required maintenance related to system warranty requirements. 6. Abbreviated operating instructions for mounting at fire-alarm control unit. I. Software and Firmware Operational Documentation: 1. Software operating and upgrade manuals. 2. Program Software Backup: On magnetic media or compact disk, complete with data files. 3. Device address list. 4. Printout of software application and graphic screens. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: Personnel shall be trained and certified by manufacturer for installation of units required for this project. B. Comply with the following: 1. Underwriters Laboratories (UL): a. UL 38- Manually Actuated Signaling Boxes for Use with Fire Protective Signaling Systems. b. UL 217- Single and Multiple Station Smoke Detectors. c. UL 268- Smoke Detectors for Fire Protective Signaling Systems. d. UL 464- Audible Signal Appliances. e. UL 467- Grounding and Bonding Equipment f. UL 632- Electrically Actuated Transmitters g. UL 864- Control Units for Fire Protective Signaling Systems. 2. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA): 3. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA): a. NFPA-70 National Electrical Code. * b. NFPA-101 Life Safety Code. * c. NFPA-110 Emergency and Standby Power Systems. d. NFPA- 72 National Fire Alarm Code. * e. NFPA-90A Air Conditioning and Ventilating Systems. f. NFPA-780 Lightning Protection. g. NFPA1221 Installation, Maintenance and Use of Emergency Services Communication Systems h. *With GA State Amendments, where applicable. 4. International Fire Code (IFC) a. 4 b. IFC Testing & Inspections 5. Georgia Accessibility Code ADA Public Law FCC Compliance- Equipment shall comply with FCC Emission Standard specified in Part 15, subparagraph J for Class B. 8. Standard Building Code UL FPED C. Source Limitations for Fire-Alarm System and Components: Obtain fire-alarm system from single source from single manufacturer. Components shall be compatible with, and operate as, an extension of existing system. D. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application. 1.6 SOFTWARE SERVICE AGREEMENT A. Comply with UL 864. B. Technical Support: Beginning with Substantial Completion, provide software support for 2 years. C. Upgrade Service: Update software to latest version at Project completion. Install and program software upgrades that become available within 2 years from date of Substantial Completion. Upgrading software shall include operating system. Upgrade shall include new or revised licenses for use of software. 1. Provide 30 days notice to Owner to allow scheduling and access to system and to allow Owner to upgrade computer equipment if necessary. 1.7 DEFINITIONS A. AHJ: Authority Having Jurisdiction B. FAA: Fire Alarm Annunciator C. FACP: Fire Alarm Control Panel D. LED: Light Emitting Diode 1.8 CONTRACT DRAWINGS INTERPRETATION A. Fire Alarm system supplier is advised that fire system unit equipment and device quantities shown on the Contract Drawings are approximate and shall be increased by system supplier if/as required to conform to applicable codes and/ or AHJ requirements and/ or fire alarm system supplier s own requirements. Such equipment quantity increases are considered incidental to the overall system and will not be considered as source for additional compensation. Additionally, quantities indicated are considered to be representative of minimum quantities, and shall not be decreased by supplier. All such added equipment shall be reflected on fire alarm system supplier s drawings, plans and bills of materials submitted for approval DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

5 B. Locations of fire alarm equipment and devices shown on the Contract Drawings are approximate. Fire alarm system supplier shall adjust and modify locations if/as required to conform to applicable codes and/or AHJ requirements and/ or fire alarm system supplier s own requirements. Additional adjustments and modifications to locations shall be made if/ as deemed necessary to improve functionality, visibility and/or audible effectiveness. Such equipment and device location adjustments and modifications are considered incidental and will not be considered cause for additional compensation. Such location adjustments and modifications shall be reflected on fire alarm system supplier s drawings and plans submitted for approval. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Edwards, GE Security 2. Fire-Lite Alarms; a Honeywell company. 3. Gamewell FCI, a Honeywell company. 4. NOTIFIER; a Honeywell company. 5. Staefa-Talon; Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. 6. Existing Savannah Chatham County Public School System Fire Alarm System manufacturer. 2.2 OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION A. Include the following system functions and operating features plus those additional functions and features required by the Authorities Having Jurisdiction: 1. Priority or Signals: Accomplish automatic response functions by the first signal initiated. Alarm functions resulting from initiation by the first signal shall not altered by subsequent alarms. The highest priority is an alarm signal. Supervisory and trouble signals have second- and third-level priority. Higher-priority signals tale precedence over signals of lower priority, even though the lower priority condition occurred first. Annunciate all alarm signals regardless of priority or order received. 2. Non-interfering: Address, power, wire, and supervise the system so a signal from one device does not prevent the receipt of signals from any other device. All circuits shall be manually resettable from the FACP after the initiating device or devices are restored to normal. Systems that require batteries or battery back-up for the programming function are unacceptable. 3. Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) Response, General Alarm: The manual or automatic operation of an alarm-initiating or of supervisory-operating devices as described herein shall cause an FACP General Alarm. A General Alarm shall include and cause the following: a. Indicating the general alarm condition via visual and audible alarm at the FACP and the annunciator. b. Identifying the device that is the source of the alarm at the FACP and the annunciator DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

6 c. Initiating audible and visible alarm signals throughout the affected space or building. d. Fire Water and/ or Fire Suppression System(s) enable (interlocked with pressure or flow status of these systems). e. Elevator recall. f. Elevator shutdown (via elevator power circuit shunt trip or other circuit interlock per Code/AHJ). g. Fan shutdown and Air-handling unit shutdown in affected space via Fire Alarm System furnished relays.* h. Smoke and /or smoke-fire damper closure.* i. Start of smoke evacuation.* j. Voice messaging activation.* k. Gas supply and /or gas appliance shutdown.* l. Magnetic door holder release* m. Alarm status transmission to mechanical (Division 23) Control Panel / System, BMS, etc. * n. Other indications / control / shutdown functions as required and/or as indicated.* o. Initiating transmission of alarm signal to remote central station. p. * where required and / or indicated 4. Manual station alarm operation shall initiate a general alarm. 5. Water-flow alarm switch operation shall. a. Initiate a general alarm. b. Cause flashing of the device location-indicating lamp for the device that has operated. 6. Initial smoke detection and/or sprinkler valve tamper switch operation and/or system malfunction or trouble shall initiate the following: a. A supervisory, audible, and visible trouble signal indication at the FACP and the annunciator. b. The location-indicating light to flash for the device that has operated. c. Transmission of supervisory signal to remote central station. d. A subsequent (second) receipt of smoke detection from a nearby station shall initiate a general alarm. 7. Transmission to Remote Central Station: Automatically route alarm, supervisory, and trouble signals to a remote central station. 8. Silencing at the FACP: Switch type. Provide capability for acknowledgment of alarm, supervisory, trouble, and other specified signals at the FACP; and capability to silence the local audible signal and light a light-emitting diode (LED). Subsequent alarms shall cause the audible signal to sound again until silenced by switch operation. Restoring alarm, supervisory, and trouble conditions to normal shall extinguish the associated LED and cause the audible signal to sound again until restoration is acknowledged by switch operation. 9. Loss of primary power at the FACP shall sound a trouble signal at the FACP and the annunciator. An emergency power light shall be illuminated at both locations when the system is operating on an alternate power supply. 10. Annunciation: Manual and automatic operation of alarm- and supervisory-initiating devices is annunciated both on the FACP and on the annunciator, indicating location and type of device DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

7 11. FACP Alphanumeric Display: Display plain-english-language descriptions and addresses of initiating devices, alarms trouble signals, supervisory signals, monitoring actions, system and component status, and system commands. 2.3 ALARM INITIATING DEVICES: A. All Alarm-Initiating Devices: Shall be classified as addressable devices according to NFPA Communication Transmitter and Receiver: Integral to device. Provide each device with a unique identification and capability for status reporting to the FACP. 2. External Addressable Interface Unit: May be used where specified devices are not manufactured and labeled with integral multiplex transmitter and receiver. Arrange to monitor status of each device individually. B. All fire alarm system alarm initiating devices shall be circuited by Signaling Line Circuits (SLC) as defined in NFPA 72. C. Where non-addressable interface relays are required for control shutdown of equipment air handlers, fans, motor starters, smoke damper controllers, elevators, smoke evacuation, etc, the status of these controlled/shutdown equipment shall be monitored by the FACP through use of addressable input relays (or equivalent monitors). 2.4 MANUAL PULL STATIONS A. Description: Double-action type, fabricated of metal or plastic, and finished in red with molded, raised-letter operating instructions of contrasting color. 1. Break-Glass Feature: Stations requiring the breaking of a glass panel are unacceptable. Stations requiring the breaking of a concealed glass rod are acceptable. 2. Station Reset: Key or wrench operated, double pole, double throw, switch rated for the voltage and current at which it operates. Stations have screw terminals for connections. 2.5 SMOKE DETECTORS A. General: comply with UL 268. Include the following features: 1. Factory Nameplate: Serial number and type identification. 2. Operating Voltage: 24 Volts DC, nominal. (Note: Smoke detectors in individual living units shall operate at 120 VAC, where applicable.) 3. Self-Restoring: Detectors shall not require resetting or readjustment after actuation to restore them to normal operation. 4. Plug-in Arrangement: Detector and associated encapsulated electronic components shall be mounted in a module that connects to a fixed base with a twist-locking plug connection. The plug connection shall require no springs for secure mounting and contact maintenance. Terminals in the fixed base shall accept building wiring. 5. Integral Visual Indicating Light: Connect to indicate detector has operated. B. Photo-Electric Smoke Detectors: Include the following features: 1. Detector Sensitivity: Between 2.5- and 3.5-percent-per-foot ( and percentper-mm) smoke obscuration when tested according to UL DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

8 2. Sensor: An infrared detector light source with matching silicon-cell receiver. 3. Color: White. C. Duct Smoke Detector: Ionization type 1. Sampling Tube: Design and dimensions as recommended by the manufacturer for the specific duct size and installation conditions, where applied. 2.6 ALARM-INDICATING DEVICES A. All fire alarm system audible and visible devices shall be circuited by Notification Appliance Circuits (NAC) as defined in NFPA 72. B. General: Equip alarm-indicating devices for mounting as indicated. Provide terminal blocks for system connections. C. Horns: Electric-vibrating-polarized type, operating on 24 Volt DC, with provision for housing the operating mechanism behind a grille. Horns shall produce a sound-pressure level of 90 db, measured 10 feet from the source. D. Alarm Devices: Visual and Combination Type: Xenon strobe lights with clear or nominal white polycarbonate lens. Mount lenses on an aluminum faceplate. The word FIRE shall be engraved in minimum 1 inch high letters on the lens. 1. Devices shall have a minimum light output of 115 candela. 2. Strobe Leads: Factory connected to screw terminals. 3. Combination devices shall consist of factory-combined, audible and visual alarm units a single mounting assembly. 4. System Supplier shall confirm that the following basic design criteria for alarm devices provides adequate, code compliant alarm notification: a. General: Include visual and/or audio/visual combination appliance(s) per Rules and Regulations of the Safety Fire Commissioner, Chapter Rules and Regulations for the State Minimum Fire Safety Standards, paragraph which states: "(1) General. Alarm systems required to be accessible by rule shall comply with rule At a minimum, visual signal appliances shall be provided in buildings and facilities in each of the following areas: restrooms and any other general usage areas (e.g., classrooms, meeting rooms), hallways, lobbies, and any other area for common use." b. Small room; visual or audio-visual units quantity: one (1) per room up to 50 feet x 50 feet. Plus one (1) additional unit for every additional 2500 square feet (or part thereof). c. Large room; visual or audio-visual units: Include visual and/or audio/visual combination appliance(s) per Rules and Regulations of the Safety Fire Commissioner, Chapter Rules and Regulations for the State Minimum Fire Safety Standards, paragraph (3)(g) which states: "In general, no place in any room or space required to have a signal appliance shall be more than 50 feet from the signal (in the horizontal plane). In large rooms and spaces exceeding 100 feet across, without obstructions 6 feet above the finish floor, such as auditoriums, devices may be placed around the perimeter, spaced a maximum 100 feet apart, in lieu of suspending appliances from the ceiling." d. Corridor strobe quantity: DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

9 1) Maximum spacing between strobes shall be 100 feet, or per the Drawings, whichever is less. 2) A strobe shall be within 15 feet of the end of each corridor. 3) There shall be no interruption in the viewing path. If architectural layout of the corridor is such that the viewing path is interrupted, such as by elevation change, the area shall be treated as a separate corridor. E. Remote Alarm Indicator: LED type, shall be mounted flush in a single gang wall plate. 1. Connect to indicate the alarm operation of a single detector or other device. 2. Legend: Alarm. F. Special alarm indicating devices for visually impaired/hearing impaired shall be provided and installed as necessary. 2.7 REMOTE SHUTDOWN RELAY A. Fire Alarm System connected remote shutdown relays: shall enable shutdown of building air handler fans, exhaust fans, closure of smoke dampers, etc on alarm condition. B. Wire relay coil as an output of the FACP. Relay contact shall be wired into the applicable (external) control circuit of the building fan. Contacts shall be 10 ampere (minimum), continuous, rated for making, breaking and carrying an inductive fan motor starter load. C. Provide addressable interface module as required. D. Shutdown relays shall be located remote from the FACP, at the applicable air handler starter, other motor starter, smoke damper and/or other controller. 2.8 FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL (FACP) A. General: Comply with UL 864. B. Cabinet: Lockable steel enclosure. Arrange panel so all operations required for testing or for normal care and maintenance of the system are performed from the front of the enclosure. If more than a single unit is required to form a complete control panel, provide exactly matching modular unit enclosures. Accommodate all components and allow ample gutter space for interconnection of panels and field wiring. Identify each enclosure by and engraved, red, laminated, phenolic-resin nameplate. Lettering on the enclosure s nameplate shall not be less than 1 inch high. Identify individual components and modules within the cabinets with permanent labels. C. Systems: Alarm and supervisory systems shall be separate and independent in the FACP. The alarm-initiating zone boards in the FACP shall consist of plug-in cards. Construction requiring removal of field wiring for module replacement is unacceptable. D. Control Modules: Shall be types and capacities required to perform all functions of the fire alarm systems. Local, visible, and audible signals shall announce alarm, supervisory, and trouble conditions. Each type of audible alarm shall have a different sound. E. Provide indication of location for each alarm device DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

10 F. Resetting: Provide the necessary controls to prevent the resetting of any alarm, supervisory, or trouble signal while the alarm or trouble conditions still exists. G. Alphanumeric Display and system Controls: Arrange to provide the basic interface between human operator at the FACP and addressable system components, including annunciations and supervision. A display with a minimum of 32 characters shall show alarm, supervisory, and component status messages. Arrange keypad for use in entering and executing control commands. H. Instructions: Printed or typewritten instruction card shall be mounted behind a Lexan plastic or glass cover in a stainless steel or aluminum frame. Install the frame in a location observable from the FACP. Include interpretation and appropriate response for displays and signals, and briefly describe the functional operation of the system under normal, alarm, and trouble conditions. 2.9 ANNUNCIATOR A. Annunciator Panel: Provide annunciator panels where indicated on the Drawings. B. Indicating lights: include individual LED indicators for each type of alarm and supervisory device and an LED to indicate trouble. The actuation of any alarm or supervisory signal shall cause the illumination of a location light, floor light, and device light. System trouble shall cause the illumination of all of these lights and also the trouble light. Additional LED s shall indicate normal and emergency power modes for the system. A toggle or push-button switch shall test the LED s mounted on the panel. The test switch shall not require key operation. C. Faceplate: Satin-finished stainless steel or brushed aluminum EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY A. General: Components shall include nickel-cadmium-type battery, charger, and an automatic transfer switch. Battery nominal life expectancy shall be twenty (20) years, minimum. B. Battery capacity shall be adequate to operate the complete alarm system in normal or supervisory (non-alarm) mode for a period of 24 hours. At the end of this period, the battery shall have sufficient capacity to operate the system, including alarm-indicating devices in either alarm or supervisory mode, for a period of 5 minutes. C. Battery Charger: Solid-state, fully automatic, variable-charging-rate type. Provide capacity for 150 percent of the connected system load while maintaining the batteries at full charge. In the event batteries are fully discharged, the charger shall recharge them completely within four (4) hours. Charger output shall be supervised as part of system power supply supervision. D. Integral Automatic Transfer Switch: Shall transfer the load to the battery without loss of signals or status indications when normal power fails WIRE A. Wire: Solid-copper conductors with, color-coded insulation. Insulation type and marking shall be in accordance with NEC Article DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

11 1. Low-Voltage Circuits: No. 14 AWG, minimum, or as approved in writing by the Fire Alarm System Manufacturer. 2. Line-Voltage Circuits: No. 12 AWG, minimum, or as approved in writing by the Fire Alarm System Manufacturer. 3. All Fire Alarm System Circuit Conductors, their method of installation, and the raceways and supports utilized shall be per applicable Codes (including NFPA70 (NEC), NFPA72, NFPA101, NFPA1221), acceptable to AHJ and approved by the Fire Alarm System Manufacturer. Circuit conductors for use with Non-Power-Limited Fire Alarm Circuits, per NEC, shall be type NPLFP-CI, suitable for use in other space for environmental air and with the Circuit Integrity CI classification. Circuit conductors for use with Power- Limited Fire Alarm Circuits, per NEC, shall be type FPLP-CI, suitable for use in ducts, plenums and other space for environmental air and with the Circuit Integrity CI classification SURGE PROTECTION A. All control and annunciator panels shall be equipped with lightning surge and transient voltage surge protective devices. 1. Low-air-pressure switch operation on a dry-pipe or pre-action sprinkler system. B. System Trouble and Supervisory Signal Actions: Initiate notification appliance if applicable and annunciate at fire-alarm control unit and remote annunciators. C. All fire-alarm system cabling runs between buildings, PIV and/or backflow preventor valves (upon entering building) and in to or out of control and annunciator panels shall have Ditek #DTK-2MLP24B surge protective devices installed at both ends. These surge protective devices shall be installed into their own, separate enclosure and not into the Fire Alarm Control Unit (panel) enclosure. If installed above ceiling, its location shall be properly marked by placing a lime green adhesive label on the ceiling grid and indicated on the fire alarm system drawings (including Owner s copy). PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION A. Comply with NFPA 72 for installation of fire-alarm equipment. B. Equipment Mounting: Install fire-alarm control or remote annunciator panels on wall, or recessed into wall as applicable, with tops of cabinets not more than 72 inches above the finished floor. C. Smoke- or Heat-Detector Spacing: 1. Comply with NFPA 72, "Smoke-Sensing Fire Detectors" Section in the "Initiating Devices" Chapter, for smoke-detector spacing. 2. Comply with NFPA 72, "Heat-Sensing Fire Detectors" Section in the "Initiating Devices" Chapter, for heat-detector spacing. 3. Smooth ceiling spacing shall not exceed 30 feet. 4. Spacing of detectors for irregular areas, for irregular ceiling construction, and for high ceiling areas shall be determined according to NFPA DIGITAL, ADDRESSABLE FIRE ALARM

12 5. HVAC: Locate detectors not closer than 3 feet from air-supply diffuser or return-air opening. 6. Lighting Fixtures: Locate detectors not closer than 12 inches from any part of a lighting fixture. D. Duct Smoke Detectors: Comply with NFPA 72 and NFPA 90A. Install sampling tubes so they extend the full width of duct. E. Single-Station Smoke Detectors: Where more than one smoke alarm is installed within a dwelling or suite, they shall be connected so that the operation of any smoke alarm causes the alarm in all smoke alarms to sound. F. Remote Status and Alarm Indicators: Install near each smoke detector and each sprinkler waterflow switch and valve-tamper switch that is not readily visible from normal viewing position. G. Audible Alarm-Indicating Devices: Install not less than 6 inches below the ceiling. Install bells and horns on flush-mounted back boxes with the device-operating mechanism concealed behind a grille. H. Visible Alarm-Indicating Devices: Install adjacent to each alarm bell or alarm horn and at least 6 inches below the ceiling. I. Device Location-Indicating Lights: Locate in public space near the device they monitor. 3.2 CONNECTIONS A. For fire-protection systems related to doors in fire-rated walls and partitions and to doors in smoke partitions, comply with requirements in Division 08 Section "Door Hardware." Connect hardware and devices to fire-alarm system. 1. Verify that hardware and devices are NRTL listed for use with fire-alarm system in this Section before making connections. B. As applicable, make addressable connections with a supervised interface device to the following devices and systems. Install the interface device less than 3 feet from the device controlled. Make an addressable confirmation connection when such feedback is available at the device or system being controlled. 1. Alarm-initiating connection to smoke-control system (smoke management) at firefighter smoke-control system panel. 2. Alarm-initiating connection to elevator recall system and components. 3. Alarm-initiating connection to activate emergency lighting control. 4. Alarm-initiating connection to activate emergency shutoffs for gas and fuel supplies. 5. Supervisory connections at valve supervisory switches. 6. Supervisory connections at low-air-pressure switch of each dry-pipe sprinkler system. 7. And all other connections per Drawings and NFPA. 3.3 IDENTIFICATION A. Identify system components, wiring, cabling, and terminals. Inspection shall be based on completed Record Drawings and system documentation that is required by NFPA 72 in its "Completion Documents, Preparation" Table in the "Documentation" Section of the "Fundamentals of Fire Alarm Systems" Chapter. b. Comply with "Visual Inspection Frequencies" Table in the "Inspection" Section of the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" Chapter in NFPA 72; retain the "Initial/Reacceptance" column and list only the installed components. 2. System Testing: Comply with "Test Methods" Table in the "Testing" Section of the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" Chapter in NFPA Factory-authorized service representative shall prepare the "Fire Alarm System Record of Completion" in the "Documentation" Section of the "Fundamentals of Fire Alarm Systems" Chapter in NFPA 72 and the "Inspection and Testing Form" in the "Records" Section of the "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance" Chapter in NFPA 72. C. Reacceptance Testing: Perform reacceptance testing to verify the proper operation of added or replaced devices and appliances. D. Fire-alarm system will be considered defective if it does not pass tests and inspections. E. Prepare test and inspection reports. F. Annual Test and Inspection: One year after date of Substantial Completion, test fire-alarm system complying with visual and testing inspection requirements in NFPA 72. Use forms developed for initial tests and inspections. G. System manufacturer s representative shall provide for the Owner s consideration, a proposal to provide semi-annual inspections and tests of the system with subsequent written reports of findings.
