a trusted resource for horticultural knowledge Greentop founder, Christopher DeRosa began his career in horticulture in His experience as a landscape designer of naturalistic gardens led to the start of a nursery business specializing in bamboo plants in The New England Bamboo Company quickly gained the reputation for high quality plant material and superior customer service for the wholesale (retail) trade. In 2005, Greentop LLC was formed to consolidate the Bamboo Nursery, Design and Consulting Services and a new Planter Division, manufacturing insulated planters. The Planter Division was created as an answer to problems frequently experienced by architects and landscape designers; How can I prevent root injury on plants during the winter months, when planted in planters on the terrace or rooftop?, or How can I reduce the heat stress that occurs on plants during the summer months? The solution was to create a lightweight, durable, insulated planter that kept soil temperatures stable, conserving moisture and preventing root injury. Greentop s Ecolite and Terrafirm Planters promote plant health and vigor; healthy plants live longer and sustain landscape designs that benefit the environment. Architects and designers have the opportunity to use these hybrid planting vessels that minimize plant stress, conserve water and maximize the Oxygen/CO 2 exchange that benefits our lives.
About Bamboo Bamboo is... Pest Free Diverse and Adaptable A Native Plant A Member of the Grass Family Edible all types Deer Resistant Types of Bamboo there are two kinds: Clump-forming Bamboos Are not invasive, new shoots occur on the outside margin of the parent plant. The Fargesias are the hardiest of all bamboos, remaining evergreen though out the winter months and tolerating temperatures to -20*F. These bamboos originate in the high altitude regions of China and have beautiful foliage and pendulous habit of growth. Running Bamboos Spread by sending out roots, or rhizomes, into the earth to a depth of about 1 foot. Some running bamboos are modest growers, while others can be extremely vigorous and invasive. Giant timber bamboos grow to huge proportions in the Southeast and on the western seaboard. greentop 1 wholesale catalog

Bamboo Barrier specifications for Running Bamboo Barrier Installation Specifications Select the appropriate barrier thickness for your climate Zone;.040 is used for Zones 4-6b and.080 is used for Zones Hand or Machine trench to depth of 33. Insert the barrier into the trench, so that about 2-3 remains above the soil line. When joining the two ends of the barrier, overlap the seam by 6-12 and use our Stainless Steel Lock-tite fastener to create a permanent seal. See diagram. Backfill the trench on the outside of the barrier, pushing it against the inner wall. Trim the barrier material by setting a 2 x 4 timber on the flat side. Score the barrier using the 2 x 4 as a guide. Bend against the score mark to remove excess material. Barrier Maintenance is required, one time each year in mid- October. Check the barrier perimeter for bamboo roots jumping over the top. Remove the unwanted bamboo by cutting the root inside the barrier and removing the piece that has migrated. Wholesale : 40 mil. = $2.50/ft. 80 mil. = $5.00/ft. Fasteners: $35.00/set greentop 6
Bamboo Planting and Care General Planting Procedures Bamboos are a giant, woody, evergreen grass. They prefer a soil neutral in ph much like other members of the grass family. They appreciate a well drained humus soil, rich in organic matter and high in nitrogen. Well-composted cow or horse manure (2 years old +) is an excellent soil additive or fall fertilizer and mulch. Dig the hole 1.5 times the root ball diameter and 1.5 times the depth of the root ball. Add 4-6 of well composted manure or Super Humus beneath the root ball, as a nutrient base to feed the bamboo. Make sure the bamboo is at the same planting depth as it was in the container. Backfill your bamboo, using a soil mix of 2 parts of your backfill or sandy topsoil, to 1 part well-composted cow manure or Super Humus, and 1part compost or peat moss. Build a soil water retention ring just outside the planting hole. After planting, water deeply to remove air pockets. Water again to fill the retention ring. Water on a weekly basis or as environmental conditions dictate. Mulch with 3 of pine bark or composted manure. Watering During the First Year, Watering is Critical to establishing your bamboo. When you water, water deeply! The amount and frequency of watering depends upon exposure to wind and sun as well as temperature. Do not let your plants dry out during their first year. Leaf curling indicates plant stress and a need for water. Some plantings require daily watering while others may need less frequent watering. Fertilizing We Do Not Recommend the Application of Commercial Fertilizers during the First Year. Topdress your plantings with well-composted cow manure or Milogornite are rich in nutrients and a good source of organic matter for your bamboos. Do not use dehydrated manure. After the First Year, when your bamboo is established, commercial fertilizers can be used if desired. Bamboo is a member of the grass family, and all grasses appreciate a fertilizer high in nitrogen. We suggest two applications of 50% organic fertilizer, once in April and again in June. One application of 50% organic in September will stimulate root growth. greentop 7 wholesale catalog
Winter Protection Most bamboos remain evergreen throughout the winter. The foliage of some will beige to a degree in temperate areas depending upon the severity of the weather, exposure, and degree of winter protection. Bamboo planted in marginally hardy areas, or where exposed to a high wind-chill factor, will often die back to the ground, but usually are root-hardy and send out culms in May or June. Adequate Mulching is most important for winter protection of your plants a 4 to 6 inch layer of well-composted manure, Super Humus or pine bark mulch is recommended. Anti-Desiccant Spray applied to the foliage is a good way to prevent damage from drying winter winds. In Extreme Cold Winter Conditions, bamboos may be bent over out of the wind and covered with over wintering fabric or pine boughs to prevent desiccation.
