2 Wildlife Habitat Gardens, no matter their size, are a BIG part in helping wildlife and the community as a whole flourish. Riverfront Park Washington Riverfront Plants in the pollinator garden: China Holly (Ilex x meserveae) Arborvitae Green Giant (Thuja pilicata Green Giant) Butterfly Bush (Buddleia) Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida) Daylily (Hemerocallis) Variegated Liriope (Liriope muscari varg.) How to Create a Wildlife Habitat in Your Own Backyard! 1. Provide Food - Vegetation supplies the wildlife with nectar for pollinators, foliage for insects and caterpillars, and seeds for birds and small mammals. Man-Made feeders provide a year-round food supply for birds and small mammals. 2. Provide Water - Natural (creeks, lakes, rivers) or man-made water sources (bird baths and water features) supply all forms of wildlife. 3. Provide Cover/Shelter - Protection from the elements and from predators can be supplied through vegetation (evergreens, grasses, shrubs, etc.), natural elements (hollow logs, Rocks), or man-made housing (birdhouses, toad houses, butterfly houses, etc.) 4. Provide a Place to Raise Young - Rearing areas can be provided through both natural and man-made elements, very similar to providing Cover/Shelter. When attracting frogs, be sure to include a small pond for frogs/tadpoles. 16
