1 DISTRICT GAJAPATI GRAMIN KRISHI MAUSAM SEWA INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT NORTH EASTERN GAHAT ZONE RRTTS, G.UDAYAGIRI, OUAT, KANDHMAL, ODISHA MULTIMODEL ENSEMBLE BASED DISTRICT LEVEL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE STATE: ODISHA ISSUED ON: VALID TILL 08:30 IST OF THE NEXT 5 DAYS Date Rainfall (mm) T-MAX (C ) Week No 12 Bulletin No. 20 Dt T-MIN (C ) Cloud Cover Rh Max (%) Rh Min (%) Wind speed (kmph) Wind Direction (deg) 13/3/ /3/ /3/ /3/ /3/ Resort to drip and sprinkler irrigation practices wherever possible in the event of limited water availability particularly for commercial crops including fruit orchards and widely spaced vegetables. Pot watering should be litres of water per plant at 15 days interval for freshly planted grafts. Mulching of dried leaves at the base of freshly planted grafts should be done to prevent evaporation. Raised bed planters save 35 to 50% irrigation water. Transplanting of vegetables should be done in afternoon hour to avoid high temperature. Go for sowing of summer green gram and black gram. Grow improved high yielding varieties. For green gram, PDM 54, PDM 11, PDM and OUM 11-5 and for black gram- Pant-U-19, Pant-U-30 and Pant -U 26 and Sarala. Use 10 Kg seeds per acre. Before sowing seeds should be treated with 3 g Thiram and 1.5 g Carbendazim. And seven days after apply Rhizobium culture, Sow the seeds in lines with 25 cm apart. Harvest the rabi pulse crops if 90% pods mature. Dry the pods for 2 to 3 days after harvest and treat the seeds with 200 ml mustard or sesame oil per quintal. To avoid fruit rot in brinjal, spray 1.5 g Streptocylcine +20 g Copper Oxychloride in 10 litre water. To control Chilli thrips, apply 2 ml/liter of water. Prevailing conditions are favourable for incidence of hoppers in mango. To control it, spray g + Hexaconazol@ 2ml/l of water. Spraying of / 15 lit of water will avoid flower drop and enhance fruit formation in mango. Rainfed mustard sown during October is at maturity stage. Go for harvesting and dry the plants under sun for easy threshing and safe storage. Transplanted rice is at 3 week stage. Apply 16 kg nitrogen per acre. Keep the field saturated. February to May is best time for planting of tuberose. Grow varieties like Shringar, Coimbatore Single and Kolkatta Single and Suhasini double. Apply 1/3 rd Nitrogen and full P & K before planting of the recommended dose of 80:80:80 kg NPK/acre. 40,000 tubers are required/acre. The tubers should be of 2.5 cm dia and tubers kept at 4-5 0C in cold storage are preferred because of their better germination ability. Apply 160 kg Neem oilcake per acre in nematode affected areas. Plant the tubers in lines with a spacing of 30X30 cm Now it is the optimum weather for sesame sowing. Grow improved varieties like - Uma, Kalika, Nirmala, Prachi and Usha, Use 2 to 2.5 kg seeds/ acre. Go for line sowing at a spacing of X 10 cm. Because of small seed size, the seeds should be mixed with dry sand or soil or saw dust for uniform sowing and less seed requirement. High differential temperature between day and night favours the infestation of Blast in rice. Spray 0.6 g Tricychlazole in each litre water. Withhold top dressing of Urea for five days after the spraying. Increased temperature may favour the egg laying of stemborer in rice in the main field. To attract the borer butterflies, place 4 Pheromon Traps/acre, collect the adults and destroy them by burying them under soil or by burning.
2 Spray 2 ml Prophenophos per litre water. High humidity may aggravate the infestation of mango hopper. In taller plants give fumigation of neem leaves. Spray 2 ml Chloropyriphus or 0.3 ml Imidachloprid per litre water and after 1 Week spray 3 g carbendazim / 3gm mancozeb per litre. All mango growers are requested to use hailnet and hailcap 1ft. above the mango plants to protect flower and nut drop as well as mechanical damage to the crops by hail storm. Summer rice need about 80 to 140 cm water depending upon the duration of the variety. On an average for one day duration the crop needs about 1cm water. Tillering, Jointing, Panicle development, flowering and milking stages are the most critical stages for irrigation. Moisture stress at these stages leads to poor yield. Irrigate the crop at these stages. Saturated field condition should be maintained after transplanting. Damping off disease is likely to appear in seedlings and young plants of vegetables, Drench the nursery beds with Copper oxychloride 4 g/litre of water to protect the seedlings from damping off. Harvest the matured crops, dry under sun and go for threshing. Bacterial wilting reported in brinjal, drenching with 1 g/litre of water for control of it. Fruit borer in Okra- Spray Neem based pesticide At later stages spray of Spinosad 45%SC@70ml/acre. Wilt disease in solanaceous crops. To control: i) Remove and destroy the infected plants to prevent spread of the disease. ii) Remove excess water from the crop field. iii) Avoid excessive application of nitrogenous fertilizer iv) Spray 200ml/acre with GREENS: October to March is suitable for greens sowing. Greens are of two types- White or Red. Use 3 kg seeds/acre. Layout 5 ft long beds of 4 ft wide with bunds. Pulverise the beds, remove the weeds and apply 1to 2 baskets of FYM/ bed. Because of small size seeds, mix some coarse sands with the seeds for easy and uniform sowing. After sowing cover the seeds with thin layer of soil and cover it with straw followed by light irrigation. Remove the straw after emergence. FRUIT AND SHOOT BORER IN BRINJAL-Spray Neem based pesticide 1500ppm@600ml/acre at initial stages. Later on go for alternate spray of Spinosad 45%SC@70ml/acre and Thiodicarb@250g/acre at 15 days interval LIVESTOCK : Provide sufficient clean drinking water to animals. Contact departmental personnel for vaccination. PISCICULTURE: Provide 2-3 % of body mass of fish. Go for false netting to get good growth of fish. To correct acidity, apply 100 kg lime and cifax 500 ml per acre meter of water.
