2 THE DAFFODIL SHOW REGULATIONS FOR EXHIBITORS 1. Exhibitors do not need to pre-enter and there is no entrance fee. 2. For the purposes of this Schedule, a daffodil exhibitor is an Amateur when: the exhibitor does not earn remuneration from the daffodil trade and neither the exhibitor, nor anyone living at the exhibitor s address, issues a catalogue of daffodil bulbs for sale. 3. All exhibits should be ready for judging at 7.30am and be correctly and legibly named. New varieties may be shown under numbers. 4. Vases will be provided and blooms to be staged one stem to a vase (unless otherwise stated) see rule 4b. Daffodil foliage will be the only permitted foliage, and use of this is optional. Packing material for vases will be provided 4a. All blooms in collection and single bloom classes must be staged in a 7in Bikini vase. 4b. In multi-bloom classes all three or five blooms to be staged in one vase. 5. In classes calling for more than one cultivar (eg 12, 6, 5 or 3 cultivars), exhibitors please note that this means different cultivars, ie not more than one bloom of any one cultivar per exhibit. Where a single cultivar is required the class will read of one cultivar. 6. An exhibitor must not place any decoration on his exhibit or use any extraneous support to the flowers. 7. No exhibitor to stage more than one exhibit in a Class, except in The Jim Akers Class for seedlings where up to three entries may be staged. 8. Should any exhibit not be worthy of a prize allotted in the Schedule the Judges shall have the power to reduce the value of such a prize, or withhold it altogether; the decision of the Judges to be final. 9. All flowers exhibited for competition must have been bona fide grown and be the property of the exhibitor. Infraction of this rule will forfeit the award. 10. Any complaint or protest must be made in writing on the first day of the Show, together with a deposit of 1 and if such protest or complaint cannot be sustained, the money to be forfeited to the Society. 11. A Daffodil Society Silvered Medal will be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the highest number of points, based upon 4 points for 1 st, 2 points for 2 nd, 1 point for 3 rd in the Open Section Single Bloom Classes only. 12. A Grand Champion Bloom, for which a Daffodil Society Gilt Medal will be awarded, Reserve Champion Bloom and Champion Blooms for all divisions may be selected from any entry in the Show. 13. A Best Bloom from Transition Exhibitors and Novice Sections will receive a Daffodil Society Bronze Medal. 14. Most points in Transition Exhibitors Section, Most Points in Novice Section and Best Vase of 3 blooms from Transition Exhibitors and Novice Sections will each receive a Daffodil Society Diploma. 15. The RHS Daffodil Classification will be followed throughout the Schedule, and the Judges will abide by it when making their awards. Whenever the word division occurs in the Schedule it refers to the corresponding division in the Daffodil Classification. 16. Miniature, Intermediate and Approved Cultivars for Restricted classes must be from the Daffodil Society s current lists. 17. 3 SCHEDULE OPEN SECTION Collection Classes 1 THE NORTH OF ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP 12 cultivars from not less than 4 divisions. 1 st prize 8, 2 nd prize 6, 3 rd prize 4 The NEHS Daffodil Championship Trophy will be awarded to the winner in this class. The Trophy to be held for one year only. 2 6 cultivars from divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4. 1 st prize 2, 2 nd prize.50, 3 rd prize 1 only enter class 1 or 2 not both 3 THE NORTH OF ENGLAND OTHER DIVISIONS CHAMPIONSHIP 6 cultivars from any or all the divisions 5, 6, 7 and 8. 1st prize 2, 2nd prize 1.50, 3rd prize 1. 4 SOCIETY S CLASS 12 cultivars from not less than three divisions. 1 st Prize 8, 2 nd Prize 6, 3 rd 4. A Daffodil Society Silvered Medal will be awarded to the winning entry. This class is open to any Horticultural Society or Group. Multi-Bloom Classes 5 THE DAFFODIL SOCIETY NORTHERN GROUP S OPEN CLASS 3 cultivars selected from three divisions, three blooms of each. 1 st prize, The Northern Group s Perpetual Trophy and 5, 2 nd prize 3, 3 rd prize 2. 6 INTERNATIONAL COLLECTION CLASS 5 cultivars, one bloom of each, raised outside Europe (seedlings excluded). To be staged in one vase. 1 st prize 3, 2 nd prize 2, 3 rd prize 1. The North of England Horticultural Society Victor Milton Plate will be awarded to the winner of this Class. The trophy to be held for one year only. 7 THE NATIONAL DAFFFODIL SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND MEDAL CLASS 5 cultivars of New Zealand bred daffodils in one vase. 8 THE DAFFODIL SOCIETY S CENTENARY COMMEMORATION CLASS 5 cultivars of Daffodils registered between inclusive, 1 bloom of each staged in one vase, plus 5 cultivars of Daffodils registered after 1947, 1 bloom of each staged in one vase. 1 st prize The Jan & Lynne Dalton Perpetual Trophy, 2 nd and 3 rd will receive special prizes. Exhibitors are allowed up to three entries in this class but only one prize. 1 st prize 1 and the Daffodil Society s Bronze Medal, 2 nd prize 75p, 3 rd prize 50p. Miniature and Intermediate Cultivar Classes All flowers to be selected from the Daffodil Society s current Approved Lists of Miniatures or Intermediates. 79 THE NORTH OF ENGLAND AMATEUR MINATURE CHAMPIONSHIP 6 different Miniature daffodils, 1 bloom per vase. 1 st prize 2, 2 nd prize 1.50, 3 rd prize blooms of one Miniature daffodil (Section A), from divisions 1, 2 or blooms of one Miniature daffodil (Section A), from divisions 4 to blooms of one Miniature daffodil (Section B) different Miniature daffodils (Section A), 1 bloom of each different Miniature daffodils (Section B), 1 bloom of each. TRANSITION EXHIBITORS SECTION All cultivars shown in this section must be on the Daffodil Society List of Approved Cultivars for Restricted Classes OPEN TO AMATEUR EXHIBITORS WHO HAVE NOT WON A MEDAL OR TROPHY, OR MORE THAN THREE FIRST PRIZES IN THE OPEN CLASSES, AT PREVIOUS MAJOR DAFFODIL SHOWS 86 6 cultivars from not less than three divisions, one stem of each cultivar per vase. 1 st prize 2, 2 nd prize 1.50, 3 rd prize 1. The winner will be awarded THE DAFFODIL SOCIETY NORTHERN GROUP S CRYSTAL TROPHY to be retained by the exhibitor cultivars, all yellow (Y-Y) any divisions cultivars, all white (W-W) any divisions cultivars with red or orange in the corona, any divisions. 7 . THE TULIP SHOW 1. Exhibitors do not need to pre-enter. REGULATIONS FOR EXHIBITORS 2. All exhibits should be correctly named. There is no entrance fee and an exhibitor may stage a maximum of two exhibits in each Class, but they must be of different varieties. 3. Vases will be provided. The Tulips should be exhibited with their own foliage un-separated from the stem. Additional unattached leaves or any other decoration should not be placed in the vase. 8 HARROGATE SPRING FLOWER SHOW INSTRUCTIONS TO DAFFODIL AND TULIP EXHIBITORS 1. All exhibitors must use the exhibitors entrance and exit on Hookstone Wood Road 2. Exhibitors materials are to be unloaded and the vehicle then moved away from the access point in order that other exhibitors may unload. It is in the interest of fellow exhibitors that this is adhered to. 3. All exhibitor vehicles are to be removed from the Show area and onto the visitor car parks before 9.00am on the opening day of the Show. A courtesy bus will run from the car parks to the main entrance of the Show from 7.30am to enable exhibitors to comply with this regulation. 4. At the close of Show at 5.30pm on the Sunday no vehicles will be allowed into the Show area until the visitors have vacated. This is necessary to comply with health and safety regulations. Access points into the marquee will be as set up times. 5. There will be no vehicle movement in the Show area at any time during Show opening hours. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL EXHIBITORS FAMILIARISE THEMSELVES WITH THESE DETAILS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL AT THE SHOW.
